Djanik began his morning bright and early. Despite all the planning done the night before, he had a sneaking suspicion most of those involved would've partied too long, and miss the morning meetup.
Indeed, as he headed out, he saw none of them near his targeted spire, so he opted to do it himself.
The comm tower he chose was nicely isolated, mounted on top of a small silo, with only one main pedestrian access path, so of course it would only have a single pair of guards out front.
Normally.
It was to his deep frustration that he saw a pair of scout bikes doing lazy routes through the neighborhood and multiple foot patrols. He'd misjudged the way the Imperials were doing their sweep - they'd be passing right by him. This officer was both unimaginative, and belligerent. He was starting his sweep with a pattern right out of the books - for counter-insurgency fighting. Obviously he expected violent resistance.
Shaking his head, Djanik brushed some dust off his jumpsuit, fetched his toolbox with the hidden spike, and made his way toward the base of the silo. Timing his movements to the patrols, the two sentries were watching a passing AT-ST, all attention turned outward, when he slid behind them into the compound.
The passing speeders and patrols gave him little attention as he was inside the perimeter, and dressed like a technician, helping finish the installation. Djanik had found that if you moved like you belonged, without an ounce of guilt, you could almost vanish from conscious sight. Climbing the stairwell, inside the Silo, he shook his head. This garrison was sloppy. Commando droids could've taken them apart in minutes.
At the top, he nodded perfunctorily at another technician, who didn't even glance at him as he strolled past, so intent was he on finishing is software installation.
Stepping onto the roof, Djanik stepped over to the vertical tower, and calmly slotted in the spike. While he was at it, he straightened out a few bad wires and a loose signal booster, which would help ensure the tower didn't go down for maintenance.
Always give the customer that little extra something.
Gathering his box, he made his way back down the stairs and out, the guards having no need to stop just another technician heading out after doing his job. Security perimeters tended to only distrust those outside - it was a strange thing, but true.
