[Day 9 - MN] The Darkest Hour [Contribution Event]
Posted: Wed Feb 19, 2020 2:47 am
by Lord Vader
The Darkest Hour
This event will open up after 48 hours when the Battle of Bankor closes. If the players have earned 25 Contribution Points by that time then this will open. If this event is not done Vader will join the combat in the Dictator combat thread.
Event Type: Main Story
Participants: Four
Timeslots: Mid Night
Description: The players must buy time for their allies on the Dictator... they must do this while being chased by Lord Vader!
Rules: Each Player makes a Fear 5 check at the start of the scene.
Darkest Threat: If Darth Vader is engaged in combat with a skill check that player generates an automatic Despair in addition to whatever else they roll. Darth Vader will not die here and Fate will conspire to keep him alive.
The Event is divided into rounds and the players must survive for Three Objectives to delay Darth Vader long enough for their team to disable the ship. If they fail this Darth Vader will most likely join the combat event, in addition to not gaining the Contribution, which spells certain doom due to the Darkest Threat modifier.
The Diversion: Each round each player may make a single skill check from the list (Athletics, Computers, Coordination, Leadership, Mechanics, Perception, Skullduggery, or Stealth) and although skills can be repeated no single player can repeat a single skill meaning if Player A used Mechanics in round 1 they cannot use Mechanics again for the rest of the encounter, but another player could use Mechanics. Each success rolled on a skill check adds Escape points to a pool. Once players accrue enough escape points they can move to the next objective. If a Player somehow ends up using every listed skill then they can repeat a skill.
The difficulty for the First and Second Objective is Average and the difficulty for the Third and Fourth is Hard.
In lieu of making a skill check they use their weapons which grants 1 Escape point, Lightsabers grant 2 Escape points as they have great cutting power for bulkheads. Force Users can make a Discipline + Force check to utilize a Force Power and must succeed and generate enough force to use that power to get the Escape points, still limited by the skill use rule in place.
Objectives: The First Objective takes 8 Escape Points, the Second Objective takes 9 Escape Points, the Third Objective takes 11 Escape Points, and the fourth Objective takes 13 Escape Points. Lord Vader will start a round behind, so the players have 1 round to clear the first objective and then he arrives at the end of the round. If no one engages at the start of the next round they fail if they have not completed the Objective. Points reset for each Objective and any excess is lost.
Once the Objective is complete they next player can immediately start working on the next Objective and so on and so forth until all Objectives are passed. A Triumph adds 2 Escape Points while a Despair means they lose 1 Escape Point. Threat and Advantage are as standard event rules.
Rewards/Outcome: Delaying Lord Vader for at least Three Objectives grants 25 Contribution Points. Keep in mind the players need Four Objectives to escape with their lives.

Additional Rules: If a hero is knocked unconscious and left behind they die, another character can pick them up, they will suffer a setback to rolls as long as they carry the hero. They can also use a stim on that hero as well if they have any.

The turbo-lift doors open to reveal the dark armored warrior, his deep breathing filling the chamber as his crimson lightsaber ignited and he advanced on the rebel scum. Cutting through resistance agents with ease.
OOC: In addition to the Fear check the heroes arrive as part of a boarding force and have fought their way here. Make this roll before the Fear check, a Resilience or Coordination check at Hard or suffer 8 wounds which can be reduced soak, in addition everyone will suffer 4 strain not reduced by soak.
Lord Vader has Improved Parry and Improved Reflect and will use the Despair to counterattack, unless the roll generates three threat in which case the Despair and any additional Despair will generate a Critical Injury from his counterattack.
Once all four members have posted and rolled their required checks, then we can begin the round by round format. Lord Vader is Adversary 4 and has Defense 1 if attacked.

[FD Committed to Brawn, 12/14 Strain]
Daunt had fought through the corridors of the Dictator in a manner so swift and sure that it left him unscathed, merely increasingly tired.
MN9. The Darkest Hour. Resilience. Commit.:
5eA+3eD 2 successes, 1 threat
[No Wounds, 8/14 Strain, Your Threat]
And then, he heard it. The memory ingrained deep into his subconscious replayed itself. He thought it play of his senses for a moment, but no, the muffled breath behind the mask was real, and approaching.
So it came to this. If there was a path through the Force it would take turn tonight. Or end. This realisation, while painful, washed fear out of him. He would face whatever Vader was bringing upon with clear gaze and awareness of his actions.
MN9. The Darkest Hour. Fear. Flip.:
2eP+1eA+5eD 2 successes, 2 threat
[2 Threat for You]

OOC: Daunt suffer 2 strain and a setback to first action, and Qareme you would suffer Fear effects but you can use the Triumph to push through and ignore it but you suffer 3 strain.

There had been many questioning glances and surprised looks when Zerras left the New Hope to join the assault team. She had been told there was no reason to put herself in danger. But, she'd felt destiny calling to her. She was meant to be here, and the Force was with her.
The approaching darkness was palpable. It would take all of her will to face it.

Verse was tired. Tired of the Empire. Tired of the Sith. Tired of the fighting she'd been doing. She still hadn't even fuly recovered from the day before. And fighting her way here hadn't been as easy as it should've been. All of this was necessary, but she was *so* tired of it all. She jammed a stimneedle into a leg just to get a little bit of a boost.
And that's when *he* arrived. She'd been told how dangerous he was. How much more powerful than even the High Inquisitor. But *nothing* could prepare her to actually be face to face with him...
Resilience at Hard, FLOW:
4eA+3eD+2eF 2 advantage, 1 Light Side, 2 Dark Side
Boost from Zerras on resilience?:
1eB 0 successes
Fear, Destiny:
3eP+5eD 0 successes, 1 threat
8 wounds taken, reduced to 3 by soak, takes 4 strain, 2 advantage to heal 2 strain, 1 lightside to heal 1 strain? Maneuver to stimpack self (heals 5 wounds)
Assuming the threat results in 1 strain, and fear does?
Health: 18/19
strain: 10/12 (or 13 if obligation has been resolved?)

by Daunt
Daunt remembered Lyla's words of not seeking confrontation with the Sith Lord. "We play some cat and mouse with him." He called to his fellow party poopers on Imperial power gala and rushed to the next bulkhead that was sealing them off. He grounded his feet and grabbed the emergency handle by the floor that was meant for heavy duty droids... and pulled it up! It resisted at first, but then some holding mechanism broke and it relented... up to the ankle level of those involved, when another failsafe triggered.
"I'll hold it...! Now cut!" Daunt seethed through clenched teeth, strings of sweat coalescing near his vestigial horns as all his muscles tensed aesthetically as if he was in the middle of some body-building competition. Now then needed to cut out just small arcs instead of full holes to slide through.
ME9. Daunt Stronk! Athletics. Flip.:
2eP+3eA+2eD 2 successes, 2 advantage, 1 Triumph
Funnily, he found his ability to show off his strength boosting his morale and exhilarating.
[2 Advantage to regain Strain, 8/14 Strain, 4 Escape Points]

With a nod Qareme moved quickly, her staff lighting up with a yellow blade, slicing through the bulkhead.
(Sabering, +2 points. 6 total for objective 1)

Verse swallowed as she watched the figure advance, herself frozen in place for a moment that seemed to drag on forever before the Zabrak's shouting pulled her out of it. She turned around to face the door and Daunt.
"Uh... r-right."
Her lightsaber flipped on.
"W-wait... you're that guy who liked my artwork. What are you doing here..." For just a moment she forgot where she was, before realization hit her again. "...uh never mind!"
And she started cutting.
[Sabering, +2 points!]

by Lord Vader
Lord Vader cut his way through Resistance Agents, they would not escape him as he tossed his lightsaber to cut through many more and it returned to his hand. He called on the dark side to impede them, there would be no escape.
He slashed through power conduits creating a flashing strobing effect of red and darkness as he pushed forward.
OOC: After Objective 1 add a setback die to all checks, using weapons to generate Escape Points to proceed forward will cost 2 strain. This is in addition to the Destiny Flip.

Zerras dashed to the next one bulkhead. Following the previous example she grabbed the emergency handle by the floor and lifted. Calling on the Force for aid, she managed to pull it up into position.
"Go! Go! Go!"

by Daunt
"And what are you doing here, huh?" Daunt laughed, having slid last beneath the bulkhead. But then lights went off. Not that he minded change of illumination in aesthetic terms, but what it portended was less appealing.
"Maybe it's destiny, Mirialan! Time we did art together." He triggered his sabre and began cutting an arc, marvelling at the strength shown by a cowled girl much smaller than him. She must have been on some Jedi magic juice.
The orange gleam of his double blade reflected viciously with reddish lacerations on the metal it was cutting. The sweat on Daunt's bald forehead now ran cold.
[+2 Escape Points, 6/14 Strain]

"This is no time to be talking about art!" She yelled, before performing a series of immensely beautiful and artistic flips as part of an acrobatics display; necessary to get to a control panel high up that was practically impossible to get to through normal means. She cut it to pieces with her saber before jumping back down and waving for everyone to move on ahead.
"Go! Go! Wait, you're a Jedi too?" She saw Daunt's lightsaber, "Never mind, just go!"
Coordination, setback from fear, extra setback, DD flip, DESTINY, FLOW:
2eP+1eA+2eF+1eD+1eC+2eS 3 successes, 4 threat, 2 Triumph, 2 Dark Side
+7 points
2 setback to next roller from threat.

These Rebels will not escape him so he commanded over the comm, “Admiral block their advance!”
The Admiral complied, activating ray shielding to protect the bulkheads as cut through the remaining agents. The Rebellion of Bankor would falter here.
There would be no mercy as the dark side strengthens his rage..
OOC: After Objective 2 add a second setback die to all checks, ray shielding negates weapons, and all checks have an upgrade to the Difficulty. This is in addition to the Destiny Flip. This stacks with Objective 1.
