Day 6 LA: The challenge

Bowze was observing the YV-865 Aurore-class freighter that was now back in the hangar, wondering if what he hoped for could be possible.

''...with the spare recharge station...''

Djanik had told that the Chiss was the best ship mechanic around. That certainly was in her alley.

Elaranu had been sprucing things up most of the day so far, having slept in after a long day yesterday. The pangs of lunch starting to subside, she made her way to the hanger to check in on her ship; She was glad the Imperials hadn't found it when they landed at the testing base the other day, but she was still paranoid that they'd planted a tracking device or compromised it in some way.

Now that she was here, she could get a look at the other ships too; Djanik's ship was gone, which didn't surprise her much; She hadn't seen either hide nor hair of him since she'd gotten up. The YV was there though, as well as Bowze, standing some distance away and looking it over. Making herself known (which wasn't hard; She wasn't exactly creeping about) Ela gave a slight bow to him.

Bowze noticed the ace mechanic quick enough and gave the bow back.

"Ah, good afternoon Miss Elaranu, how are you?"

'Still under the weather; A bit maklunky even, if you will pardon the profanity. I certainly never expected to find myself in a situation like this. Yourself?"

"Our situation is unique but all things considered...I am well enough."

He glanced at the ship once more.

"It is fortunate that you are here. Did Djanik tell you about our plan for this ship?"

"Not in so many details, no. Something about it needing a lot of work. That I can do. But details... perhaps I am just not remembering, but regardless, I do not."

He nodded before giving the details

''The goals is fairly straigthfoward: turn this Aurore-class freighter into a droid carrier.'' he looked over at the hangar, surveilling the numerous droids

''Condidering our current assets I beliee it will be quite needed. Djanik told me that you were the best ship mechanic around and we would be honored to have you lead the project.''

Ela actually whistled, "That is quite the project. I suppose I should ask questions before I blunder into such a large undertaking, no?"

"Feel free to ask"

"What sort of blueprints do you have? Basic designs or full structural schematics?"

''I have the schematics for the Aurora but the modifications will have to be artisanal.'' he admitted

''I have access to some schematics for droid instalations to act as inspiration.''

"That is a start I suppose; I can certainly look those over and modify as needed. What about materials then? I can see..." she said, looking over at the droids as well, "that you are not short on some assets, certainly. I just wonder if your assets will live up to my needs. Once I were to get to work, that is."

She paused thoughtfully, "...I imagine what resources I did not bring on my ship, what little they were, have long since been seized by the government."

''A sad state of affairs'' he said regarding the theft by the Empire ''But we have a lot of the pieces you need to start and the funds for you to finish.''

Ela tapped her chin thoughtfully, turning from Bowze to the ship and giving it a look over. "...this is not the sort of thing I had in mind when I moved here. But it is an opportunity I cannot pass up. For many reasons. I shall have to start by giving it a look over, if it is ready for a thorough probing."

''You are welcome to fully inspect it'' he said ''Djanik trusts you so I will give you all clearances for this project.''

"Very good; You should definitely trust the person designing the things that are between you and empty space,'' she says with a slight smirk before walking forwards, towards the ship. Ela paces around it a bit, chin in her hand as she looks it up and down slowly, pulling out her datapad from her tool belt after a moment.

Bowze followed silently, ready to answer questions

It was a large enough ship, though it was clear even before the rear door was opened that it was more of a bulk freighter than the smaller types like YT or ZM classes. Considering all the strapping and hanging points she saw once the door opened, it was clear it was made for holding animals, or other beings; Cages needed to be larger and more spaced than just packaged freight. She took special note of the dimension estimates in her head as she stood on the ramp, "Where did you get it from?"

''We found it here at the same time as the base. I might have been used to smuggle parts to build it.''

"I see. ...how thoroughly have you gone over it for mechanical issues, and has anyone flown it since you found it?"

She took out a laser measurer and set it down on one edge of the cargo hold, squatting down next to it.

"We flew it around a couple of times. The structure is sound thought I would not try space yet."

"Makes sense."

She took more measurements, the device automatically logging them on her datapad. Ela made sure to look that she didn't get out of voice range as she worked.

"I take it the Imperial presence did not see it?"

''If they did they likely did not care. This ship currently can't be considered a huge threat.''

"I am just worried about being identified; Even if they do not consider a ship a threat, they may consider the people aboard one. Which is why I was so concerned they saw my ship, even if they do not appear to have boarded it. An inconspicuous ship with registration would be nice."

"This model is common enough, I am sure we can forge identications with the proper experts"
