The trip back and forth from the Sword to Veras (and the hot and heavy work of scavenging, loading, and unloading in between) had become almost a kind of moving meditation. Wait'll I tell Verse and Petrus she thought.

The migraine certainly helped in clearing actual thoughts from her mind.

ooc: Open to anyone who might have been around the Sword and wanted to tag along, or not at the Sword but Vaya might have thought to contact. Or just coincidentally here.

Uncharacteristically, Vaya found herself with no-one she could reasonably pawn the more difficult parts of the work on. So instead, she and Jabber did their best to haul their prizes to the TBD's cargo lift.

"Well," she panted, sweating, "if I ever thought about trying to make an honest living this way, I think I'll give up on the thought of it. At least when you're working this hard in archaeology, there's something interesting at the end of it."

"Do you see why I gave it up now?" Jabber squeaks with exertion as they slide a heavy piece in. "I mean, it's a living and a good one. This place would have kept my family fat and happy for a long while, but we still would have needed to barter all this. That was my job...I was the one who could talk to the Long Legs, and how I decided I wanted to be an outlaw."

Jabber pants as he recovers. "I didn't think I would start funding an army doing it."

As she had on their three other trips today, Vaya interspersed her efforts hauling sheets of doonium and sacks full of dampers, compressors, and wiring with time unloading her sample bags of other, considerably more organic odds and ends. By the end of the days work, she would have quite the collection: scrapings of rock lichen, mushrooms pulled from under damp piles of garbage, the stalks and blossoms of hardy grasses that had sprung from every patch of toxic dirt, whether at ground level or wind-driven atop some ancient hulk.

"That's a damned odd switch, from outlaw to insurgent, eh?" said Vaya, continuing to practice her Jawa Trade. "Or maybe not, whot. What drove you to it, old fellow? I can't imagine that chap Nato bloody well pays better than Vandil, for a Jawa of your talents, mate!"
