[D1 MA; Scavenger Club] Submitted for the approval of...

by Jabber
"Jeez, ya know, I always thought that when I left Tatooine, I thought that I would have made it big, and that my days of picking through scrap were over." Jabber kicks over a piece that he had deemed worthless. While getting ready for the job the other night, one of the members had talked about going around and doing some scavenging for some extra credits, maybe getting some parts for a ship together.

Fairly into his cups (ok, one cup, thanks to Jawa physiology) Jabber had mouthed off a bit and started to brag about how much better he would be. It seemed that in his boasting, he had agreed to go in with a bunch of others, some from the bar before work, and some through the grapevine to try to pick a spot known for scrap. It meant pooling funds for a speeder rental, which made the odds of profit higher, and it never hurt to have someone else watching your back.

"We all locked and loaded?"

Djanik powered down the speeder, Hopping out of the driver's seat and checking his bag.

"I suppose I am. We might as well see what kind of shape these old girls are in, neglected for this long."

He was dressed in his normal fashion, a jumpsuit with an excess of pockets. Tapping his commlink, he keyed it to an old Republic frequency that had fallen out of use once the seperatists had taken to jamming it. The empire had never shifted back into that range.

"Key your commlinks off mine if you intend to go far - though I wouldn't recommend it myself."

Verse saw no problem in going out of the city into potentially dangerous wastes with people she'd only met a short while ago. It seemed like fun, and she wasn't worried about not being able to trust them. Even the Jawa; wait, 'even' made it seem like she thought Jawa were generally untrustworthy... which everybody did, but she didn't want to be that kind of a person.

Anyway, she showed up looking pretty ill-prepared. No sign of a blaster, just a set of solid clothes, a small pouch and what looked like a glow-torch.

"Ooh, a commlink... that would've been useful to have," she mused out loud upon hearing Djanik mention them.

Venator is locked and loaded and decked out in his gear. He carries a blaster rifle on his back and keeps an eye out during their scavenging expedition. He takes out his commlink to sync up with the others and exchange Galactic Holonet numbers. "Bes sday close darlin'. Everyone keep yer eyes open for any vermids. Comms online."

Vaya had found the group at the holonet-posted time and place, cheerfully introduced herself as "Vaya, basically got a degree in picking over broken dead things looking for stuff to nick," and looked ready for... something, with a sturdy, lockable weatherpoof carrying case in her lap. "Excavator's kit," she explained. "Not exactly the right tools for the job, but better than nothing."

Near a promising-looking wreck, she slapped the side of the speeder. "Here's good." Checking one more time that she had Djanik's comm code for a pickup. "Take care, kids, don't let the Bone-pickers getcha." With a cheery wave, she pulled out her ascension gun and... missed a flat section of hull a few meters off the ground. She was there, cursing and retracting the grapnel, as they drove off...

[roll to come!]

Jabber almost literally dives into a pile of scrap, and those around can hear the sounds of digging and metal shifting. Eventually the Jawa pops to the surface

"Well, not much is at least a start," she said when the little Jawa brought in the 'haul'. Admittedly, she *was* a little disappointed, it was going to take a while to get enough material together if this was the pace. But it definitely wasn't as if she was going to do any better.

"Well I just got to the planet myself, so no." She answered the question even though it would've probably been obvious with her general ignorance of the area and her core accent. She then looked toward the others for an answer.

In the distance they can hear the sound of speeders... lots of speeders and the sound seems to be getting closer.

Verse looked toward the direction from where the sound was coming. "Uh... you guys hear that?"

"Now might be a good time to saddle back up."

Djanik was already moving, walking briskly to the speeder and setting down what little he'd been able to find.

Vaulting into the driver's seat, he punched the ignition, bringing the rental back online.

This thing needed some missile launchers...

Tapping his comlink, he keyed it up and said, simply, "Picnic's over - get ready for an immediate pickup to go home."

"Agreed." Jabber jumps up and then plops on the back of the speeder, facing the other direction. Quick as a flash he has a pair of blasters out. "Unless ya'll are are up for "salvaging" those coming at us."

The dust clouds on the horizon show that salvaging a small army of Bone Pickers might be a challenge. Their dark flags flying from their speeders and their whippoorwill call filling the air. Those not on speeders are mounted on beasts.

"Are they... I'm guessing they're not here to be friends with us?" Verse got in the speeder, ready to get going. "Best get out of their way then."

Vaya had managed to work up a sweat despite the short amount of time clambering inside around the wreck. She'd done a lot of field work, but most of it with assistance from people with more muscles and fewer degrees. Still, her haul wasn't bad.

Then her commlink spoke.

"Uh, roger, copy that, roger," she said. "I'll be where you left me on just a minute." She started packing, wishing she had held on to the commlink to ask if there was trouble, or if the driver just had an abrupt manner.

D1MA scavenging, boost from gear: 2eD+2eP+2eA+1eB 1 success, 3 advantage

I'll need to calculate how much that is, but I'll spend my advantages on increasing mod utility rather than resale.

The moment everyone was on board, Djanik feathered the accelerator. (Assuming other players will board, those who want to stay are on their own)

It was a hard acceleration, not so much that anyone, or anything, would fall out, but it didn't relent, and they were soon whipping through the graveyard at a breakneck pace, and still quite low to the ground.

The pickup point was quickly graced by a speeder which had pulled a full 180 and was sliding, back first, toward the pickup location, the main engines being used to slow down the speeder as quickly as it has sped up.

Yes, this would probably cause damage to the transmission, and no, he wasn't going to tell the rental agency about it.

"Hop in, or you'll meet a lot of new friends."

Venator jumps into the speeder car then prepares his blaster rifle in case things get messy. "Go! I'll give some cover fire if dey hosdile. Jabber, ya ladies bes hold on fer life or be ready da lighd dem up."
