As a precaution, Djanik relocated after a few hours, flying the rental back to the city, and then back to the yard.

It would shake off any followers, and helped clear up room for any new finds.

He still didn't know most of the junk heaps he saw, but a few seemed familiar. Old ships, from a war that was already fading into legend.

It made him somewhat sad.

For his part, Djanik was not very good at quiet salvaging.

This time he was trying to get a power shunt out of a broken down vulture droid, now devoid of about half one side of the droid. Sadly, that power shunt was the only thing holding on the surviving wing, and when he snipped it loose, the entire wing went with it, rolling away and smashing into a former ore hauler, making an unholy racket.

The shunt was in good shape though.

Venator missed the first outing but comes along this time. "So wud ya look'n for pardner? Anyding in pardicular?" He watches for trouble and occasionally takes a moment to look through the scrap.

"Ship parts. Hyperspace components, universal components that I can put in whatever scrap heap I eventually find or buy."

Djanik, after the earlier run in with trouble was noticeably more guarded, even though he wasn't much quieter.

"I need to find some small parts I can leave for the local scrap bandits, just to keep things from getting messy."

[Venator Praedae]

Venator nods. "I'll probably ged Jabber da help me sell dis scrap. 'Less someone else or ya wanna buy id off of me."

"Scrap bandids? You mean dose monsder riders? Ya have a run'n wid dem?" He inquires.


/ -25 credits for speeder rental correct? Or is that already covered?

"Yes, earlier today."

With a faint shrug, he added, "They lay claim to this pile of dead ships, and so if anyone picks among it, for convenience, it's best to leave some choice pickings, or some other sort of bribe, to keep them from causing trouble."

Picking up a broken scanning relay, he scowled.

I really could've used one of these...

[Venator Praedae]

"Any idea 'boud deir numbers? How big is deir durf? Dey god a leader or someshin?" Venator asks as he picks up a round piece of engine part from the scrap.

[Djanik]

Djanik shrugged.

"A few dozen, maybe a few hundred, hard to tell."

He dug through some more scrap.

"Run a camp out of a crashed Republic cruiser to the south, got a self-styled scrap king. Friendly enough guy, in a crazy, homicidal sort of way."

[Venator Praedae]

"Dun suppose ya been dere or have da coordinades? Dis Scrap King have a name or somesh'n?" Venator finds something that looks like it may be good.

"Wa ya dink aboud dis?" He shows the part to Djanik.

[Djanik]

"The encampment is honestly pretty hard to miss. I didn't catch the name, but he was a big bearded human, was fairly obvious he was in charge."

Djanik glanced at it.

"It could sell for some credits, but I personally wouldn't use it."

He pointed to the manufacturing mark.

"That's a port stabilizer, but it's from a third party, not the original manufacturer. You got a lot of those in the Clone Wars, and they had an absurd fail rate in action."

[Venator Praedae]

Venator nods. "Guess I'll check id oud somedime lader. Maybe de'll have somesh'n good."

After he listens to Djanik's analysis he tosses it back into the heap. "No good huh? Guess I'll hafda look around some more."

[Djanik]

With a faint shrug, Djanik added, "You could sell it on to someone less... versed... in Republic war equipment. But yeah, if you want to put it in your own ship, I'd stay away from that early war bootleg - there wasn't much quality control, early on."

Making his way through the scrap piles, he added, "Any particular sort of thing you need parts for?" Kicking a mangled protocol droid away, he whistled.

"For example, this here, would be a great acquisition, if you had access to a gunship."

Picking up the small tube, he brushed some of the dust off. "An intact beam converter, I'll be damned."

[Venator Praedae]

"Nudd'n in pardicular. Just wanna make some credids to pud a down paymend on a ship. I dun have the skills to build one from scrap like ya can." Venator takes a look at the tube Djanik picked up.

[Djanik]

"I couldn't build it from scratch, but I could maybe fix up one that's... mostly scrap."

With a grin, he added, "Well, if you wanted to upgrade those guns of yours, you could probably find some parts for that in these parts - otherwise, you're just looking for things you pawn off to any gullible sap - if it works, no matter how briefly, that's your target to sell on."

Venator nods. "Good idea dere pardner. Hav'n more kick wid my blasders sounds like a wild ride."

[Djanik]

"Indeed - or, for instance, something like this beam converter - you might be able to make it substantially more accurate."

A little shrug.

"It can be a challenge to figure out how best to implement a new addition, but once you find something good, the ideas really get flowing."

[Venator Praedae]

Venator nods. "Den da queshion becomes on which ones da ged. Blasders only have so much room."

"When Imma ready for an upgrade I'll be com'n da ya. So besd be ready for some work."

[Djanik]

Djanik chuckled.

"All right - I'll try and do the job properly."

[Venator Praedae]

"Imma dink'n wid firepower firsd. Accuracy can come lader. Whadya dink 'boud pudding on some audo-fire?" Venator asks.

[Djanik]

Glancing at the metal tube he was holding, he finally pocketed it.

"This would be no good for that - I could put this, with some alterations, in to tighten a beam up... amping up the fire rate... you'd probably be looking at some power shunts, or maybe you could even go so far as a power converter. That'd be a little risky, to put that much punch through a typical blaster, but it could be done."

Rolling his shoulder and listening to the pops of the joint, he added, "I'm not an expert mechanic, mind - I learned a fair bit during the war working on my squadron maintenance orders, but that doesn't make me an expert, so no promises."

Venator continues looking through the scrap for what Djanik mentioned. "Ah, ya were in da war? Which side ya fighd on?"

[Djanik]

"Does it matter?"

He scowled.

"In the end, both the Republic and the CIS are no more."

Rooting under some mangled armor plating, he pulled out some hydraulics.

Sadly, all the fluid had long leaked away, and they were rusted solid.

"Whaddya complain'n 'boud Djanik? Da Republic jus became de Empire is'all." Venator comments. Though he doesn't say much about the Trade Federation,

"Jus god a new coad of paind on id."

[Djanik]

Djanik had crawled halfway under the scrap pile, lying on his back, trying to check if the actuators on the underside of the plating were still in decent shape, so his reply echoed strangely.

"It was more than a surface level change, my friend. From the outside, it may seem not, but from the inside..."

A faint laugh.

"On the inside it's rotting. Just like these servos."

Venator shakes his head. "Course id is. Dough ya say da like ids news? Da Republic's been around for cenduries. So nadurally id'll ged bad. Der be plendy of corrupshion, discriminashion, and down righd hade da go 'round. Everyone is jus blam'n id on da new governmend."

He looks around for some power converters that Djanik mentioned. "Da people, sysdem. Dey always been dere from da beginn'n. Dey losd dere Way a long dime ago."
