The Great Cram-Fest Harvest!

Event Type: Side Event
Participants: Unlimited
Timeslots: Mid Afternoon

Description: This harvest time event is a favorite of the locals and is a big part of the Cramberry Festival, visitors come from all around to enjoy all the cram berry delights and then get to participate in picking some for the good of the community and get some fresh cram for themselves!

Rules: There are three steps to this event and each must be done in order but even if you fail a step you can continue. You must pass at least the first or second step to be eligible for the reward and the final step to be eligible for the bonus reward, the bonus reward can be earned even if the first steps fail.

Up to my Armpits!: This is an Average check using Athletics, Coordination, or Resilience as you wade through the now flooded fields to gather the cram berries. This is actually quite the work out and failing this check adds a setback to the next step. If you roll a Despair or Triumph contact the GM.

The Right Berry: Now they have to inspect the bunches of cram berries for the ripest and best ones to harvest! This is an Average check using Education, Survival, or Xenology to discern the best of the best! Earning a Triumph here doubles the basic reward if they earn a reward while a Despair reduces the Reward to nothing if they succeed as they found a particularly bad crop of berries.

Oh yeah there are Lots of Spiders!: The field is filled with natural breeds of spiders that eat the pests that feed on the cram berries and when the field is flooded they climb over anything to stay out of the water so the character is now covered in spiders from about a cm across to some as large as a quarter of a meter in width. They are harmless to people but it’s an unsettling experience, this is a Fear check make a Discipline, Cool, or Vigilance check at Hard to avoid freaking out.

Rewards/Outcome: If the player completes at least one of the first two steps successfully they can earn 250 credits for their time or reduce Obligation by 5. If they successfully complete the 3rd step they earn the Talent below.

Spider-Person: The character gains a boost die to all Fear checks for they have endured the trial of spiders and been found worthy.

Jedi training had taken a lot out of Sloan, and Veras has suggested the perfect remedy. Berries...lots of berries. Of course they were just for picking...for now...

"Wading" through the water, didn't prove to be much of a tough task for the resident giant as he strode both gleefully and menacingly towards the bountiful bunches of beautiful berries.

Using a children's traditional method of randomly choosing Sloan pointed in a direction happened across a group of quality berries.
"One two three four,
leave the sleemos at the door,
five, six, seven, eight
how many womp rats has he ate"

He passed his claws gently over the spiders, petting their little spider backs. "Thank you for guiding me to these perfect berries my friends."

Scrap and parts was one thing... credits were another. While growing her business was Elaranu's preferred way to get them, sometimes short term work needed to be done to pay the rent. So when she heard they were paying a tidy bit for cramberry pickers, she jumped aboard. It was safer than bounty hunting, after all. And more lucrative than scavving.

The work itself was easy enough; There were spiders and currents and so much... water. It made her a little leery. But she was given waders, and the water was actually really shallow, so her phobias soon took a back seat to work. Which she proved good at. Ela wasn't much for physical labor in some ways, but she didn't shy away from it either. And she had an eye for healthy plants, having grown up in the country.

Fruit. Fruit trees. Maybe this was a sign? Probably not, but she could at least help out with the berry picking either way. So, there she was, wading through the flooded fields. While it might've been a good solid work-out, it was one she managed to endure without any issue. The real problem was when it came time to figuring out which to harvest and which to leave. Unfortunately she wasn't particularly smart about such matters, and simply ended up grabbing a bunch of them without too much care for ripeness. At least she'd gotten a large enough haul to have gotten a fair number of useable ones in there.

The spiders though... she hadn't noticed them while she was out in the field, but now that she was on dry land again and had handed her haul in?

"Oh... my... god! NOOO!"

She spun around, slapping at herself to get them away.

"I hate spiders! They're icky and gross and they get everywhere!"

Juri felt a bit our of place in the waders she was handed to try and help with the cramberry harvest. Awkward, and clumsy, she fell over as she stepped into the bog, waders filling with water, and tiring her out.

Even being bogged down, she at least was smart eniugh to find the right kind of berries for the festival.

And Spiders never bothered her, anyway. Especially with her confidence.

Djanik waded through the field with a bland expression fixed on his face.

This was to please a supplier in the market - they'd keep giving information to the Hutts if he did this.

This was work. For Work. Yes.

Mechanically, he struggled through the mess, the water, the berries, the stains, and the smell. He even did a decent job.

Then he went home and got a shower, and when finally alone he curled up in a ball and scratched all over because the feeling of the little legs wouldn't stop. It wouldn't stop. He wanted to scream but settled for just whimpering at the realization he would have the most horrible nightmares that night.

Dove was athletic, but wading around in the water wasn't exactly she was used to. It wasn't a total waste, after all.

And thanks to checking out what to look for in a good cram berry [Bought Info], she easily picked out a decent batch. No trouble no fuss.

Now for those hoping to see Dove panic over the flocks of spiders running over her, she remained cool as a cucumber. For her, this was just like the training she had undergone back on Arkania to teach her to adapt to situations of terror and fear. And besides, these little critters were harmless... unlike other big critters on the planet.

To be honest, Jabber was skeptical of this arrangement? A favor owed to Tilidol was to be erased, just for going out and doing an honest days work?

Not that Jabber approved of an honest day's work.

Best to avoid it whenever possible, but for this I'll make an exception

Well, having to wade around in water that was armpit height to most bipeds on the planet was over Jabber's head, creating a comical sight as he waded deeper and deeper until he vanished, only to bob back up to the laughter of those assembled.

Ok, I think I am seeing what they're getting out of it

Cram Berry Picking-Up to My Armpits!- Coordination: 4eA+2eD 1 failure, 4 advantage
ImageImageImageImageImageImage (Passing 2 boost)

Jabber ended up sputtering as he struggled to remain above the surface, his first time swimming turning out to be a not so fun experience.

Just need...a berry

While not a native, Jabber had been here long enough to see what the good stuff looked like...and he might have even stolen a few on occaision. In spite of the effort, he manages to scoop up some of the berries.

Cram Berry Picking-The Right Berry-Survival: 4eA+2eB+2eD+1eS 2 successes, 2 advantage
ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage ( Passing Boost)

It's at the moment that he grabs them that he feels tiny legs all over his skin, usually protected by the robe but now flooded with water. Going under the water silences what might have been a scream, but as Jabber makes his way back to shore he seems non-plussed, picking a spider off of himself and throwing it back into the water, setting off another peal of laughter.

Oh yeah...spiders!!!-Hard Cool, with carried over boost: 1eP+1eA+1eB+3eD 2 successes

Well of course she was going to help with the Cramberry harvest! They had just been training nearby so obviously the thing to do was to help out with gathering all those juicy berries.

Foraging was always harder work than it first appeared, but at least these were plantations of berries. Xanna waded around and did her fair share of berry collecting. She was glad of the time she had dedicated to keeping herself in shape though!

Her knowledge of cooking came into play as she sorted through the bunches and selected the choicest fruits. If it wasn't good enough to eat raw or put in a pie it got discarded quickly.

The little spiders didn't bother her in the slightest, and once she had realised that the bigger ones meant no harm, it was quite fun watching them interact with the others. She thought some of them were really quite cute.

Ru'ni wasn't sure why he was here, Viati had told him that he'd be better off returning to the Great Sea later in the day, so he had decided to help out with the harvesting, to cultivate better relations between the Aznuri and the laowai.

The Aznuri native was no stranger to the environmental trials that the cramberry farm presented and he strode through the waters with ease, despite his smaller stature.

Mia took off her coat, rolled up her sleeves, and hiked up her pants before wading into the water. The fields back at home were a little less wet but otherwise she was in her natural habitat. She waded in, keeping her berry basket up high as she looked around.

"Oh you look very yummy indeed," she said to her chosen plant. She picked at the berries with intense focus. From her perspective, it never helped to be mindless about it. However, the focus backfired when a few spiders began crawling about her hand. She stared at one in particular that walked up her arm.

"Well, I figure the locals would have mentioned poisonous spiders if it was actually dangerous." Mia smirked and lifted her arm closer to her nose so that she could get a better look at the spider. "Oh sorry, you're plenty dangerous if you want to be, aren't you?"

The spider made a small jump, right into her lip. Mia blinked and gently prodded it out. She let out a small sigh of relief and carried her berries back out of the field. Once she got herself settled, she noted the little guy still on her shoulder.

"Go figure, I have a knack for spiders." The young blonde opened up a pouch on her belt for the spider to crawl into. "I'll need to get you a proper home later, alright?"

Manual labor: the job of a servant.

His job now.

He would need to get used to it, of course, but there was something refreshing in simple physical tasks and it could be quite the workout! Having rented a used rubber for the occation for a few spare creds the tall and lanky nemoidian lowered himself and took his first step in the submerged fields. Things where difficult since he was not the most athletics of people but he lived in a similar environnement when he was a grub and his instincts seemed to have kicked in!

Up to my Armpits! coordination: 2eA+2eD 3 successes, 2 threat

He made his foray into the fields but he still needed to focus on his footing as to not to slip and lose the berries he tried to muster.

He tried to recall information about the fruits but he was just tempted to bite into one...just to be sure

The Right Berry, education: 4eA+1eS+2eD 2 successes, 1 threat

''ACK!''

The fruit was properly ripe...but he should remember not to swalow the seeds next time.

Oh yeah there are Lots of Spiders! cool: 1eA+2eP+3eD 1 success, 1 threat

As he finally spat the seed out he saw the first spider. The furry little thing looked adorable trying to climb up his left leg...oh look! I t even brought a friend!...and another!...oh shit!

The poor nemoidian got swarmed by the tiny creatures but managed to keep his calm for he had both faced worst and they where still adorable...just a bit too much of them.

He took a good pause after he brought back his load of berries. He felt...surprisingly well. Maybe a new life could be had here after all?Berry's cool: 1eA+2eP 1 success, 2 advantage, 1 Triumph

High quality cram berries! Picked from the cram berry trees!

This is something Qareme had absolutely zero knowledge on. She picked the ones that were in front of her, which at her height was plenty of them. Being weighed down by the water and mud was clearly affecting her, and she was struggling more than expected. Which, being that she walked with a walking stick, was not really a surprise.

At least the Spiders didn't bother her; in fact, they ran from the large woman. She also was able to move some of the spiders away from the smaller, more afraid people.

Vaya had proposed the outing to the siblings Karath and herself, but only Jenna could make it. “Cultural festivals are great,” she had said. “Good clean fun, and you usually get to sample highly cultural alcohol afterwards.” As a bonus, she treated them to her best recollections of an undergraduate course on pre-spaceflight agricultural practices among selected core worlds, which were limited compared to her recollections of the verbal ticks and moral failings of the professor. Still, they might have heard something that will apply to the experience...

Slogging through the bogs with more vigor than enthusiasm, Vaya deployed her knowledge from extensive fieldwork to find the good stuff (“Once you’re totally sure they’re not poisonous, it’s not so hard”). She not only lucked in to a rare patch, but stopped herself from eating all the ones she found before she could return them to the bogs’ owner. Said owner tried to explain what made these seemingly identical berries so special, to no avail.

Dak arrived at the cram picking festival in good spirits. It had been a mostly good couple of days and this little event was a good way to enjoy a nice day out in the sun.

Dak wore some of his more worn clothes for the event, he plunged into the cram filled waters and danced across the stones with ease. A smile on his face as he gathered berries for the festival, the Cathar laughed and joked with others nearby sharing smiles as they all toiled away.

Once he had his haul Dak sifted through his catch and found some good ones. Maybe not the best but nothing that would taste could or make anyone sick.

He wasnt a fan of spiders and he had known there would be some it didnt stop him from jumping a little when he felt the goliath sized one crawl across his scalp. The Cathar shivered but barely managed to restrain himself as he picked it off and tossed it back in the water. He knew he would find some small ones in his fur until he properly showered.

It was somewhat embarrassing, wading through a bog for this, but... well, needs must. Any extra potential creds meant a lot when you're building something. Days like today, though, they wished their credo wasn't so specific on the subject of helmets and outsiders. Well, whatever.

Making their way through and choosing the berries wasn't so bad. Once they were over the embarrassment, it was even kind of fun.

The spiders were not okay, the spiders were NOT KRIFFING OKAY. Suddenly, they were very grateful for the helmet and its wonderful expression covering effects, because Sacha hated spiders. They just really, really hoped no one had been close enough to hear the embarrassing noises they made as the awful little things crawled everywhere and they made their way in a hurry out of the bog, then very quickly somewhere hidden where they could make sure none of them had CRAWLED INTO THEIR HELMET AAUGH.

Rannek heard of the Cram Berry picking and that there was a chance to make a bit of money. With little Gibsy in need there was no way he couldn't participate in such a wholesome means of acquiring funds.

The day was well enough productive... as he felt himself opening up to the feelings and flow of the world around him more than he had in recent days. Something about the boy the day before had sparked something within him... and he felt an awakening and rising within him that drew him back to his childhood.

He found several nice Cram Berries, collecting them in the basket he had brought with him and carried on his back. As a spider crawled out of his basket and crawled up his ear, however, some of the peace he had felt flew from him as the spider flew in the air after being brushed off and sent away with a choice word of the unseemly variety.

Coming here wasn't exactly the easiest prospect, but she got here all the same, because a festival like this... how could she miss the opportunity? Here was the life she'd been hoping for, ever since she came to Bankor, something simple.. fun, and brings joy just by doing something together in the company of others. It wasn't easy work, to be sure, but she took to it with a smile all the same.

First, naturally, came wading through the flooded fields and she was sure to pack up her outer jacket and choice other precious items into a neat little bundle. Rolling up her sleeves she slipped in to the water. Wading through came as a relatively easy task, her work had always required her to be nimble and she'd always performed admirably. Here, when all she needed to worry after was making it through the flooded fields and no added pressure of being discovered or shot at. Well, it was actually quite the relaxing experience.

Lucrative too, as a satchel wading through the waters managed to find its way onto her hip. As if it had always been there. Was a pretty good start to the day.

Now, she'd only needed to find the cram-berries themselves. Cram-berries were like any other berry, she thought, but she'd not spent much time seeing other berries either. So she couldn't quite rely on her know-how to pick out the right berries but, truthfully, just her gut instinct. It'd never served her wrong before, and it didn't here. Making collecting the berries and effortless task that was all too easy to get lost in.

Lost enough, as it would appear, to not notice the spiders making their way over the water which just happened to lead them on a path that involved her very body. Resisting the urge to scream she kept her cool, looking around and figuring out quickly that these spiders had begun walking over just about everyone. Some of the repeat visitors seemed to even enjoy their presence, giving little friendly greetings, if she paid close enough attention. Asking a neighbor about them she learned their truth, and sought about finding a nice place to leave them safely before lugging her basket back through the waters.

Well this would make a nice '. . . and finally!' piece for tonight's news so Ria'la braved getting into the water, after carefully tying up his hair and covering it with a scarf. He was a little distracted talking to the camera explaining what was happening to get the best berries, but he did actually manage to collect a decent amount while filming.

Then a spider climbed up onto Dray as the cambot was taking a close up. Ria'la casually leaned forward and brushed it back into the water.

"No food for you there critter, back where you belong."

The annual Cramberry harvest always brought Sinnya's mind back to happier, more innocent times. Creche field trips, sunny days outdoors, and fresh squeezed berry juice... the memories were ones of contentment and peace, spiders aside.

After she'd struck out on her own, she'd started working the harvest for extra cash. The last few days had been a little too eventful; some strenuous but simple day labor sounded like just the thing, so she headed out to the local berry farm.

She picked her way easily through the murky water that came nearly up to the knees of her borrowed rubber boots, even though a waterlogged field was pretty much the opposite of a Twi'lek's ancestral habitat. The floating berries pretty much all looked the same to her, so she just swept up the closest ones. If they were red they ought to be ripe, right?

Clearly Sinn was more of a hunter than a gardener. Still, she had a full sack, even if the contents were nothing special.

As she sloshed her way through the waterlogged vines, she felt something brush on one of her lekku and flicked the head-tail in question over her shoulder to see what could be tickling her. The culprit turned out to be a hairy arachnid almost as big across as her palm. Sinn twitched in surprise, but she recognized this type of spider--she'd seen them many times before on hunting trips in the region, and although they could fairly be called hideous, they were harmless to large mammals like her. She sloshed a bit more quickly the rest of the way to dry land and brushed the spider off onto a bush, hoping nobody had been paying too much attention to the muddy Twi'lek with the bug on her head.

Farming was something Astin avoided if he could, he didn't much mind work on some of the machinery around farms, but when it came to the actually work? That was a ahrd pass. They money wa fairly good though, at least for today and it swayed hi, enough to join in on finding some berries.

It went pretty well all things considered, he'd done things like this before that is until he found himself covered in spiders. Cursing he attempted to brush them off. This would likely be the first and last time he joined in on this particular harvest.

Having spent much of the morning working with a cram-berry farmer, Petrus was more than willing to give it a try. And so, he rolled up his sleeves, and waded into the fields. He was young, and in good shape, so that part wasn't so hard. And he had paid enough attention to the cram-berries he'd been eating the last few days that he could manage to find the good ones. All this meant that Petrus was whistling cheerfully as he worked.

Or, well, he would have been. Except for the spiders.

"Not another one not another one not another one argh..." Petrus grit his teeth, shivering as yet another spider climbed over him. He pressed his lips tightly closed, his whole body shaking as he worked. Perhaps the best way to conquer fear was to face it. Or headbutt it, as Dove had suggested.

Headbutting spiders didn't help. He just got spiders on his head.

Petrus gathered the spiders... wait no, the berries. But it was a while before he could stop imagining things crawling under his clothes...

Venator shows up for the cram berry picking. He is able to work quickly and goes through the fields yet occasionally trips up. He manages to keep from spilling things everywhere somehow though. He looks at the berries with serious eye. Got to avoid the weird purple or blue coloured ones. The amount of spiders does bother him a little. He does work around them though he is weirdly cautious and slow to not get them on him.
