The Question of Identity (Day 1, EE)

[Verse Aura]

She raised her own cup, "What you said."

And then drank some of it. Just some though, she didn't really like kaff; even if the energy boost was nice.

[Djanik]

Setting his own cup down, he inquired, lightly, "So what are you doing here on Bankor? It's a bit of a scrap heap of a planet, I can't lie. For that matter, what do you do now, if you've hung up the robes and saber?"

He hadn't ever thought about that before, but what did a retired jedi even do?

[Verse Aura]

"I haven't hung up anything," she said, "Well, maybe the robes. And I haven't used the other thing much I guess. Mostly I've just been busy trying to stay off the radar, pursue some pet projects. Bankor's mostly just another place to lay low... although I don't think that's going to be happening, given I had to escape from custody once already."

[Djanik]

He blinked.

"Pardon?"

A slight shift to glance around and make sure there were no jackbooted hordes about to invade the diner.

"You what?"

[Verse Aura]

She blinked. "Oh, I thought you knew. Huh. Well, they rounded a bunch of people up, and put us all on some transport to a work camp. Don't think they were expecting us to turn things around, though. Or steal one of their transports in the process."

She looked over at a piece of meat still left on his plate.

"Hey, are you going to eat that?"

[Djanik]

"What? Oh, no, go ahead."

He pushed the plate across the table.

"I'm surprised they aren't looking for you - did they not even process you? Local command really is... arrogant."

Crossing his arms, he contemplated what he planned to do next.

[Verse Aura]

"Thanks," she started eating the bacon, "I mean I think our names were in the computer, but we got them out. Or something. The others took care of that."

[Djanik]

"Well, that's good."

After thinking it through a little more, he pulled out his datapad.

"Do you have a datapad or anything? If so, here's an address where you can reach me if something comes up. Just tell one of the kids you need to talk to me."

Reversing the device he pushed it across the table, revealing a street address in the back alleys.

"I don't have a ton to offer, but if things get worse, I don't want to see more of the old Republic fall away."

[Verse Aura]

"Oh uh... no, I don't have anything like that. But... I'm sure I could find like, the address itself? And the other way around, well, I have a room at one of the local public houses, it's not far from here, it should be easy to find me there. Or leave a message I guess."

[Djanik]

"Certainly."

He chuckled.

"Just be careful - I guess maybe if we're going to change the galaxy, we should avoid being captured in too many roundups."

[Verse Aura]

"Or be lucky enough to be captured alongside someone who knows how to override all the bindings in one go and simultaneously flip over the transport in the process so that the guards could be taken by surprise."

She wasn't joking, apparently that was exactly what had happened.

[Djanik]

Djanik gave her a slow, deadpan look.

"Well. Or that."

Shaking his head, he hefted the empty kaff mug, contemplating a refill.

"For that matter, what sort of people were you with? Criminals?"

He hadn't heard of any criminal roundup recently.

[Verse Aura]

"Resistence," she said, barely above a whisper. "Or you know, people leaning that way."

[Djanik]

"Sounds like they're off to an incredible start."

A dry comment, also quiet, but he smiled sardonically. To all outsiders, there was nothing weird going on here.

[Verse Aura]

"Well, they didn't get sent off to a workcamp, they acquired a new transport, and they captured someone with important intel. Sounds pretty good, yeah."

[Djanik]

He shook his head in amusement.

"I hope so."

Dragging the datapad back to his side of the table, after she had gotten a look, he added, "I hope they have more good fortune to come. I have a suspicion they'll need it. Maybe some day we can do more than run."
