Not Today (D4, LA)

Rannek ran up to the apartment complex where Gibsy lived and he took in the damage with a look of dire concern on his face. Rubble littered the ground around the exit as chunks of the complex seemed to be littered all across the street. People ran about in a chaotic frenzy as Rannek looked for a way in.
Seeing no quick way in he immediately walked up to some of the rubble to make himself an entrance into the building. The giant chunks of glass, concrete, and rebar didn't budge at first... Rannek could feel the concern rising within him but he put that aside... No one would be benefited by him losing his own cool over this. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes before grabbing the blockage again.
His hands gripped into the solid stone tearing through like ten individual picks. He then heaved and moved the largest chunk out of the way... A flood of people came running out as he began to sift through the crowd and head into the damaged building.
He looked around for any sign of the boy or his aunt, but finding nothing he began walking up the stairs back up to the 37th floor...

The hallway was a mess and people were out in the halls but he didn't see the boy, he did see the door to the apartment and the door was ajar.

He hurried toward it as best as he could and pressed open the door to look inside.

Things were a mess but the child looked okay as he sat under a table, he was alone inside.

Rannek had been working a bit over the last few weeks to learn how to better communicate with the kid. He came up close just outside the table and signed-asked, "You okay kid? Where's your aunt?"

Gibsy responded with I am fine, things were moving.
He pointed out the door when asked about his aunt.

He asked, "She been gone since the morning?"
He shook his head no and made a motion of eating and then pointed to the door.

"I think I should go look for her. Make sure she's okay. You wanna come with me?"

He seemed scared but then nodded and offered his hand while the other held a Mr. HappyBoob figure.

He nodded and gripped his hand in a manner that was meant to instill confidence.
They headed out of the room and he put Gibsy on his back as he walked down the flights of stairs towards the entrance.
Just before coming out into the street he closed his eyes and with an unsettled mind began looking for the place he should go in his mind’s eye...

The darkened tendrils that connect all things guide him through the streets to an alley where two gang toughs are dead and she is neatly cleaning her blade when she looked up and said, “Hey… you look familiar, oh Gibsy what are you doing outside?”
“Oh… the big damn hero!”

He looked at the two felled thugs and back to the aunt, “You okay?”

Rannek looked a little more than surprised but with Gibsy there with them he refrained from asking further questions.
"Milkshakes... uhh.. sure. How's that sound Gibsy?"

"Then let's see if we can find a place that isn't too banged up..." He said as the trio started walking through the streets. Rannek's mind was obviously on the events that just transpired.
Why would she be so calm and collected... Delivery woman... Delivering what? Death?
They walked toward a diner that looked relatively well-off and walked in. After finding a seat and ordering their drinks Rannek looked over to Lyla.
"So... crazy earthquake huh?"

"Things were going crazy," she said warmly. "Gibsy was real brave though, right?"
They high-fived.

He nodded, "Good job Gibsy. It must've been pretty scary all by yourself. Way to kick that fear in the butt."

"Yeah... was worried about the kid. So went to the apartment... there was some rubble around and stuff that I had to clear. But Gibsy was alright when I made it up to him. We were worried about you so we came to find ya."
