The Festival of a Thousand Flowers

On Alderaan at the turn of Spring to Summer there is a grand planet wide festival. As said by the common folks, all days belong to the Crown but the ten that belong to the Flowers and the People. During this celebration the noble houses throw grand parties for ten days, the traditional week before conversion to the Galactic Standard. But unlike most celebrations these are for the benefit of the masses, where the High serve the Low, by feasting them and putting on grand pageants. It is a truly poor or wretched House that does not participate in the custom.

The Festival of a Thousand Flowers was said to commemorate the wedding of a House Alde queen to a common born youth who aided her and she in turn gifted him with a Crown made of one thousand flowers delicately woven together. This romantic gesture flavors the whole celebration as it is both a year end celebration and one of new beginnings, with the final day taking place on the first day of the New Year by the traditional calendar. Now it is more symbolic as the calendar has not been used in generations but the custom stands.

It is a time of dancing, feasting, and romance and it is common for many proposals and betrothals to be announced during or at the end of the Festival and often customary for one of the betrothed or lovers to present the other with a hand woven, often purchased, flower crown. One of the biggest celebrations is held at the Grand Spring Palace of the Royal Crown, often called the Silver Spires by most. Here the Queen holds her grand pageant and opens the grounds to the people, who chosen by lottery, unless specifically invited get to see the grounds and party for ten days. People wander the Thousand Flower Gardens, easily the most beautiful garden in the sector sprawling over several kilometers, The Hedge Maze, or even visit the spot where the legend began.

The nobility treat their people well, to show them that they love and appreciate them for their loyal service, and although that is the reason the more modern celebrations are generally drunken revelries of romance, bad decisions, and a right of passage. Running the Maze is often a euphemism for young lovers having an illicit tryst, while less licentious individuals will pilgrimage to the statue of Queen Hileen Alde and kiss the feet of the stature for good luck in love or marriage. Getting Crowned, is the highlight which usually happens on the ninth day just after sundown, where betrothed and lovers present a Crown of Flowers as a token of devotion.

At the end of the Festival the small folk return to their duties and the nobility to theirs, often with the belief that what happened at Festival stays at the Festival.

Premise

As stated before the Alderaan story arc will be one part love story and another part politics, hopefully not as treacherous as Ziost but still dangerous with lots of intrigue. Where Ziost will focus on the ambitions of Aspirants and the fate of the Empire, Alderaan will focus more on the growing tensions between the great houses.

The backdrop for Alderaan will be that the Crown Prince, Gaul Panteer, has recently left his betrothed at the altar insulting House Ulgo greatly and pushing the two houses into a near civil war. If not for some quick concessions and aid by the newly arrived House Thul, there would have been open conflict.

Now at the Festival of a Thousand Flowers all eyes will be on Panteer and Ulgo hopefully announcing a new betrothal between the two families if not… then it could mean Alderaan could be plunged into a brutal civil war that could weaken one of the strongest core stellar nations of the Republic.

Can love and duty align to save a world from conflict or will there be blood.

Alderaan Suitors

For the Alderaan campaign it may be possible to play as a possible suitor for the Panteer twins, there are some minor restrictions or considerations for potential suitors though. First and foremost, they should be able to trace a lineage back to an Alderaanian noble House, preferably a Greater House but lesser ones are permissive as well, this invariably means that the character is of human species, adopted or non-human species will be regarded as lesser blood lineages.

Noble lineage is preferred and will be given greater weight than those of common stock. Other factors that may affect one’s initial suitor standing will be military service, social service, and connections to specific Alderaan noble houses; as noted earlier non-humans can be suitors but will be regarded as lesser candidates as the Great Houses are all almost exclusively human.

Each suitor will be granted a starting Suitor score, this will affect how well Queen Solara Panteer regards them as a potential match for her children, this does not account for the personal wishes of the twins.

The affections and wants of the Twins is measured by Affection, this will be a hidden rating at the start of the game and will be affected by role-play some possible events and the predilections and biases of each twin. They will be on similar scales so at the end of the game if say the Suitor score of the highest Suitor is lower than the Affection score the Twin will choose the where their Heart leads them instead of what the Queen wishes. In the case of ties a random die roll will be used to determine the outcome.

One does not have to be an appointed Suitor to have an Affection score, though if the character is married or has made it clear they do not wish to be with the Twin then they will not be considered as a choice. Each twin will have their own Affection list. It will not be assumed that a player is on the Affection list, it is a player decision.

All is fair in love and politics.

Joran Panteer.jpg
Joran Panteer.jpg (12.21 KiB) Viewed 8128 times
Joran Panteer
Born into a life of privilege, Joran is the first of the twins by two minutes and twenty seconds, and until recently not much was expected of him except to be royal and be presentable. He served in the Panteer forces as a commander and nominally still holds that position but is no veteran of any grand conflicts like his older adopted brother, Unther. He does maintain his martial training but has little practical field experience.

He is handsome inheriting his late father’s charm and physique and cool collected nature, he is rarely caught off guard and is very likable. Women and men love to be around him and he forms friendships easily and like his older brother Gaul, he has a roguish playboy charm but it is tempered by an actual bit of compassion for people around. He never sets out to break hearts and mostly is a flirt but never one to use those talents to take advantage of people.

As far as the suitors are concerned he finds the whole thing archaic but understands what is at stake which has put some strain between him and Gaul in recent years. He even volunteered to marry the Ulgo heir but without a clear line of succession the offer was never seen as credible.

Known Likes
  • Joran is known to enjoy hunting and outdoor activities, anything that has some element of risk piques his interest.
  • He comes from wealth and is used to those trappings, and despite himself he tends to get along best with people from proper society.
  • Joran is a soldier, so he has a certain rapport with other military members or ex-military.
Known Dislikes
  • Joran isn’t xenopohobic but he isn’t overly attracted to nonhuman species even near humans as a romantic partner at least.
  • He seems uncomfortable around Jedi, something about their strangeness and abilities is off putting to him.
  • Joran cares about appearances, people with a bad reputation, warranted or otherwise, tend to be avoided..

Jameela Panteer.jpg
Jameela Panteer.jpg (10.14 KiB) Viewed 8122 times
Jameela Panteer
Younger by a few minutes Jameela is fairly similar to her brother and they are very close, even when she was offworld for her studies they talked often daily and they keep few secrets from each other. Having just celebrated their twenty fifth birthdays they are now being thrust into a fairly perilous position of marriage to stave off possible civil war. Jameela knows her mother’s wishes but finds the whole process archaic and demonstrably backward but she is bound by the rules of Alderaan nobility to comply. In truth she thinks she would make a poor queen, she feels she lacks the guile and ruthless acumen of her mother to balance all the Houses desires and wants.

Jameela is a scholar by nature and profession and a prodigy like her brother, brilliant with a great deal of potential. She focused her studies on theoretical sciences and mathematics and holds several degrees even at her young age but she lacks a thorough grounding in social skills and finds parties anxiety inducing from all accounts. Which is a shame because is also a trained classical dancer and musician like her mother.

As a duo her twin brother tends to run interference for her in social settings so she does not feel overwhelmed by the crowds of people vying for her attention. She is quiet in public but in private settings she is quite verbose on any number of topics and keeps busy by volunteering to help those less fortunate than herself, something she wishes her twin brother was more inclined to do.

Known Likes
  • Jameela is a scholar but she doesn't like to brag or show off but is impressed by a genuine thirst for understanding.
  • Showing compassion for others especially those less fortunate is something she looks for in friends and allies.
  • She is a romantic at heart and such gestures when done properly, and in private tend to work well with her or so it is said.
Known Dislikes
  • Violence and war don’t impress her, she abhors such things and although does not dislike people that do that for a living but if they glorify it, she tends to avoid them.
  • Jameela is by nature a cautious person and dislikes people she feels are simply getting into her good graces due to her position and lineage, which she finds to be most people.
  • An easy way to earn her ire is to be a bully, especially to those without the means to fight back.

Solara Panteer.jpg
Solara Panteer.jpg (10.69 KiB) Viewed 8116 times
Queen Solara Panteer
Queen Solara is in her mid fifties now and still radiant, strong and dominating of any situation she finds herself in. Her husband passed away suddenly in a speeder accident while hunting some seven years ago and has ruled alone as the sole magnate of Alderaan. She has held the reigns together quite well even before that but the misstep of her eldest, Gaul, has put the balance between the most powerful families on Alderaan into freefall. A wedding some fifteen years in the making dashed by his capriciousness could throw the whole planet into civil war.

Now House Ulgo wants amends, House Thul has returned, and lesser houses are taking sides in what could be a bloody civil war if a solution cannot be found. She wants to make peace with House Ulgo but does not want to reward their defiance with a prominent wedding either as it could make House Panteer look weak and a weak house is a House not long for this world, so she opted for a compromise with offering her twins up as potential spouses during the Festival of Thousand Flowers, allowing her time to work behind the scenes and build a coalition in case she has to go to war with Ulgo and retain her crown. On top of that high ranking family members within Panteer demand a new heir be found as Gaul has been found wanting, which is another precarious situation she needs to navigate with care and strength.

There is a great deal riding on this and as such she demands much of the suitors that have come to try and impress her and show they are the right fit for her children.

Known Likes
  • Solara values powerful family connections, members connected to the Great Houses of Alderaan will be given greater consideration than others.
  • Heirs must be produced as the Great Houses highly value blood lineages, in lieu of that adopted members are a great second option but they must be publicly recognized.
  • Romance matters little, showing you are a capable person willing to do what is best for Panteer is what matters to her.
Known Dislikes
  • Nonhumans will be given lesser consideration by her, only because she knows the prejudices of the Great Houses when it comes to lineage.
  • Those with complicated affiliations like Mandalorian or Jedi are not wanted, she wants someone that will be dedicated to the family and not outside interests.
  • Aligning oneself with the enemies of House Panteer will not endear yourself to the Queen of Alderaan.

The Blackguard

While House Thul has a powerful military nearly as strong as Ulgo and rumored to have many Imperial auxiliaries, it is the Blackgaurd led by Duke Zeno Thul that often gives them the edge. This elite cadre of warriors are said to be some of the fiercest and most powerful fighters among the Thul military and said to wield mystical abilities akin to Jedi to devastate their foes. They are a small elite circle currently and each has sworn their loyalty to House Thul.

The Blackguard have caught the eye of the Jedi especially due to the rumors that utilize powerful mystical abilities to devastate foes and seem to adhere to a philosophy that espouses strength and loyalty to the House but has echoes of Sith training. Thus far they have not had cause to act against the Blackguard but there are concerns that this splinter group that holds loyalty to a known ex-Sith may just be another rival philosophy that could tip the balance on Alderaan.

First among the Blackguard is Lady Massacre, a skilled duelist capable of wielding a lightsaber with peerless skill and has been attributed with many mystical abilities that many Jedi suspect she has learned from Duke Zeno Thul.

Association Status

In addition to the nobles that make up the Great and Minor houses there are many more functionaries, servants, and soldiers that fill out the bulk of the population. These people usually have basic association status with the House, they are given a stipend for their services and are allowed to wear house colors and the standard and represent the House. They are still common folk though.

Above them is High Associates, these are broken down into three general groups; Long Term Associates, Specialists, and Exceptional Servants. High Associates are pseudo nobility, they are considered nobility although they lack the blood lineage of the House but they can also be dismissed at any time by the House. Long Term Associates tends to be basic associates with decades of honorable and exceptional service and is a reward for fidelity and service to the house. Specialists tend to be those people with unique skills of value to the House such as highly skilled artists/artisans, brilliant scientists, or exceptional officers from the common folks. The final group is the one most common for player characters which is Exceptional Servants; people who have proven themselves to be highly competent individuals or with exceptional capabilities that could benefit the House often culled from the ranks of freelancers.

This final group tends to have a lot of leeway and are even encouraged to work offworld as their triumphs and victories build the glory and prestige of the House and this can even be retroactive as well. Again these are considered pseudo nobility so they are eligible to be suitors if one wishes to go that path.

To be considered a High Associate with a House is a 5 point Obligation for a minor House and a 10 point Obligation for a Greater House, this is open to returning characters and not new characters made specifically for this game.

Bouris Ulgo.jpg
Bouris Ulgo.jpg (11.68 KiB) Viewed 8064 times
Duke Bouris Ulgo
Bouris Ulgo, Duke Ulgo to most is the head of House Ulgo and a popular man on Alderaan. A war hero of the war against the Sith, his involvement was instrumental in repelling the invasion and keeping his world free. In return he was honored with one of the most lucrative marriage arrangements on Alderaan, his daughter and heir to the heir of House Panteer, cementing their union and effectively making them the most powerful houses on Alderaan.

This of course fell apart when Gaul Panteer backed out of the arrangement at the last minute and put the whole alliance into turmoil. Bouris has threatened war in retaliation for the slight and if not for the timely arrival and reinstatement of House Thul there would have been war. With House Thul backing the Panteers, he has had to be more diplomatic but tensions are still rising and war could still be on the horizon if he can’t get a union with the future heir of House Panteer whoever that will be. Many minor Houses have come to his banner and he has the public backing of House Rist.

Bouris is a large man, over 2 meters in height and built like a tank; he is a premier soldier even in his early sixties. A stern man, he treats his soldiers and people well and has their loyalty through his natural charisma and his heroic accomplishments. He has great pride in his daughter and has raised her to be a strong and tough woman, even purposefully putting obstacles in her path to better test her and prepare her for the future as a queen of Alderaan.

Yulastranza Ulgo.jpg
Yulastranza Ulgo.jpg (14.43 KiB) Viewed 8053 times
Marquess Yulastranza Ulgo, heir to House Ulgo
Yulastranza Ulgo, often just called Yula by those who know her and have that privilege, is her father’s daughter. An only child, she was practically raised on the battlefield and is an accomplished hunter, soldier, and duelist among the nobility. When she graduated from education she enlisted and worked her way up through the ranks of the Ulgo military until she was the leader of the Wolf Pack an elite special forces unit. After she took a leave of absence to attend a finishing school on Coruscant to better round out her skills in court and prepare for her marriage to Gaul Panteer.

Then everything fell apart and she was left without a potential husband and the one role she had spent the better part of fifteen years preparing for was snatched from her. She was not devastated though, she was never much a romantic and instead like her father sees an opportunity to topple Panteer if they don’t give them what they want. She is here to win herself an heir and she will have one, she is a scion of Ulgo and they do not fail.

Yulastranza is 1.83 meters tall and like her father is built like a tank, but with curves, she tends to wear flowing gowns to obscure her muscular build but she is a powerful hand to hand fighter and competent marksman and still leads the Wolf Pack. She is equally at home in her battle dress as she is in the best gowns and heels money can buy. She is cool, collected, charming, beautiful and she knows well she has assets that people want. She may be even more ruthless than her father.

Ziandra Thul.jpg
Ziandra Thul.jpg (15.49 KiB) Viewed 8039 times
Duchess Ziandra Thul
Duchess Ziandra Thul is the head of House Thul, and is a polarizing figure on Alderaan. She is a ruthless woman of a disgraced, but newly reinstated House married to an ex-Sith Lord which is enough to give the Jedi Order and the Republic military fits. Despite that fact, she was able to convince House Panteer to back their reinstatement and brought vital military backup to ward off conflict with Ulgo and has become a fixture in and around House Panteer much to the dismay of House Organa who fear that the Thul influence may affect Alderaan for the worst given their tenuous ties to the Empire.

Officially all Imperial auxiliaries were released from service before serving with House Thul and Duke Zeno Thul was expelled from the Sith Order but rumors abound that they continue to get support from Imperial agents all the same. Ziandra is well schooled in the games of court and political intrigue and has few scruples, she will do whatever it takes to achieve her goals and step on anyone and anything to see her ambitions realized.

Ziandra is a slight woman who dresses stylishly and according to her station. She has twins as well who appear mostly human despite the crimson tinge of their skin and they are her darlings but she rarely allows them to leave the Thul compound for security reasons. She has become a close confidante of Queen Panteer and is a member of the Queens inner circle providing intelligence and military support to Panteer forces and agents. She clashes often with her Organa counterpart in the inner circle.

Prince Unther Panteer
A military hero, Unther Panteer is the middle child of the Panteer royal family an adopted son, his mother was a high associate of the House and favored by Queen Solara. Her death, along with her husband made Unther into an orphan which led to Solara adopting him and raising him as her own. He was never made by her to feel different but he always knew he was the odd man out, even so, he loves his family and is dedicated to Panteer. Older than the twins by about five years, he is already married to a scion of House Rist and serves as Captain of the Royal Guard.

Unther is of a lithe build, although in recent years he has put on a little weight it isn’t anything that detracts from his aesthetic. He is observant and competent at his job and takes the protection of the family very seriously. He has no ambitions to rise any higher than he is and is firmly in support of whomever his mother chooses as the next heir to the royal House. He gets along well with the twins and his elder brother but tends to keep to himself and in private spends his time with his wife and son, Vennius, who is approaching three now. He is very solidly a family man and his wife was a match of love, not noble obligation.

Princess Consort Valina Panteer
A trained assassin seems an odd match for a royal prince of Alderaan but Valina has never led a conventional life and never been one to do as expected. A member of a lesser branch of House Rist she caught the eye of Unther at a party some ten years ago and they have been inseparable ever since. She joined House Panteer as his wife nearly six years ago in a lavish ceremony during the Festival of a Thousand Flowers.

She serves in the Royal Guard officially but unofficially it is rumored she leads a Black Operations unit that exists off the books for House Panteer putting her unique skills to use for the family. When off-duty she tends to her own family and in latter years has taken to writing as a hobby but was encouraged to by her husband to release a novel and it was met with moderate success and she is now working on a second in the series, a series called the Dark Child Chronicles about an assassin turning her skills against her old masters.

She is a quiet and stern woman and tends to stay aloof of the politics swirling around her and focus on the threats to her family and House.

Baroness Miyi Thul
Baroness Miyi Thul is a woman of proper breeding and impeccable education, she is also just so damn cute and likable. A distant cousin of Ziandra she shares the dark hair that is a trademark of Thul breeding. Despite her cute look she has a classic military training and is actually a talented star fighter pilot.

She was chosen to represent House Thul because they believe she will appeal to the male heir and they have worked together in the past and gotten along well. During an offworld stint, she served alongside the prince in an offworld training mission though he was unaware she was actually a Thul at the time.

Miyi on the surface seems a kind soul, good natured and friendly but she is devoted to her elder cousin and House Thul and she knows what is expected of her and will execute the will of Duchess Thul with exacting precision.

Lord Nijan Thul
Nijan is an artist, a brilliant artist of many disciplines and talented musician. He isn’t exactly scholarly but he is cerebral and intense and has an appeal that draws people to him with little effort. He earned a place as a High Associate of House Thul and was given a chance to represent the House in pursuing the hand of the female heir.

Nijan is handsome and stylish and has a rebellious nature never quite going with the flow which gives him a bit of a bad boy allure. He has an infectious mischievous smile and a devilish gaze that promises excitement and danger. His best medium is holo-sculptures but he is skilled in painting, traditional sculpting, music, and even song. He is a true renaissance man and his off time is usually spent finding a new source of inspiration.

Nijan is not a warrior by any means, he is an artist of slim build with fine features and meticulous style. Ziandra chose him because she feels he is the perfect choice to win the heart of Jameela Panteer and Nijan is more than happy to accept such a challenge.

Returning Characters

Agent Theron Shan
Theron-Older.jpg
Theron-Older.jpg (12.47 KiB) Viewed 7967 times
Theron has grown and matured and is now working as a rookie agent with the SIS under Agent Wren Yuris, he shows a lot of promise but still tends to go with his gut instead of following the rules. He is an expert slicer and trained in most forms of small arms and although his parents wish he chose a more sedate profession this is where he feels he can do the most good.

He feels the assignment to Alderaan will be pretty routine but while here he is going to try and get an idea of just what is going on with House Thul. It’s not supposed to be his mission but his gut tells him this is where the real action is.

Jedi Knight Thy Yulani
Thy-Older-small.jpg
Thy-Older-small.jpg (11.33 KiB) Viewed 7967 times
Thy should be a master but she has defied the Jedi Council on many occasions and is usually proven right but it has made her something of a loose cannon among their ranks and has stunted her progress. Her good friend Satele tries to council her and get her to see reason but Thy feels like the Council has lost its way and does things her way.

Despite that she tends to think before she acts now even if she tends to do things her way. She is on Alderaan because she knows that a civil war would be devastating to the Republic and would only help the reformed Empire and their newfound Empress.

Many on the Council feel she has gone rogue but Grand Master Resmi Thun still trusts her judgment so she stays in good standing.

Jedi Knight Lunda Mae
Lunda Mae-Older.jpg
Lunda Mae-Older.jpg (31.34 KiB) Viewed 7967 times
Lunda has grown since her failings on Bankor, she thought herself one of the best and that nearly destroyed her. She spent a year in meditation on Tython before she felt sure of herself and then returned to her training and completed it and eventually became a Jedi Knight. She is no longer the smiling woman she used to be and her time alone has made her a more serious and dedicated Jedi.

She has grown physically and mentally and is now an accomplished Jedi Knight who follows the wisdom of the Council first. She understands the dark side better than most and knows how insidious the Sith can be and that has hardened her, made her understand that the galaxy can only know peace when the Sith philosophy is scoured from the galaxy. She now watches her fellow Jedi for signs of weakness and darkness, and has become quite good at seeing the signs long before anyone else.

She does not get along with Thy Yulani, who she feels is a dangerous element that reminds her too much of what she suffered at the hands of Darth Zash. When her Jedi sister falls she will be there to grant her the mercy of death; as they say there is no death there is only the Force.

Agent Wren Yuris
Agent Wren Yuris.jpg
Agent Wren Yuris.jpg (20.87 KiB) Viewed 7967 times
Wren is a veteran of more conflicts and hot zones than she cares to count and has now become one of the primary field trainers for new agents. She likes the role but her current charge is pushing her buttons, way too good and also way too much trouble at times. Theron is probably one of the best rookies she has seen in years but the problem is that he knows he is good and that arrogance might get him into trouble and that trouble might get a lot of people killed.

As a woman she is a cipher, off work she has few friends and she has been in the Intelligence for the majority of her adult life and that tends to warp her view of people. She really has no social life something she does not realize as she tends to fill her time with work and the next assignment but the pressure is building and she might need a release or maybe she just needs the next assignment.

Her mission on Alderaan is to work as an attache of Organa and keep the peace.

Two Brothers

Two days before the start of the Festival of Flowers, circa the Present

Unther groaned as the communicator shrieked loudly. He rolled over and tried to see if his wife would take care of the matter but even in her groggy state she still had that glare that promised murder so he sighed and rose, grabbing a robe as he entered the adjacent chambers where the secure holo-terminal resided.

He took a seat and wiped the sleep from his eyes, it was early so this had to be urgent. He checked the cypher ID and then frowned as he realized who was calling him. He tapped the button as the seated form became visible and said, “Do you realize what time it is here?”

His older brother, Gaul, smiled and said, “Of course I do, you’re looking wellish.”

“I look and feel like bantha poodoo, why are you calling me?” Unther replied.

Gaul’s right gestured toward his brother and said, “I can’t just call and speak to my little brother after all this time, you wound me brother. It’s like you don’t enjoy my company, you don’t call or write… have I hurt you?”

“No more than you hurt the family, and last I checked you’re the one that does not write or call; I send you reports weekly,” Unther replied with annoyance. “If you need something just ask, this would not be the first time I had to clean up a situation you started.”

Gaul tsked and then said, “I have decided I want to spend the Festival with my family, figured you might like a chance to redeem yourself after the last time we went hunting.”

“One, you cheated, and two, you’re technically banished; mother would have you put on house arrest and then have me carry it out,” Unther responded harshly.

“Mother will try but in this situation I think it is better to ask for forgiveness than permission,” Gaul said.

“Her mercy has limits, even for you,” he said and then added, “Kriff, you’re already on your way?”

“I will be on Alderaan in a few days, the exact timing will be a surprise so you can feign ignorance. I want to make sure I help the twins make the best choice for the family,” Gaul said sincerely.

Unther shot to his feet and said sternly, “A choice they shouldn’t be making because you shirked your duties and put them in that situation! But no, you had to… You put yourself before the family like you always do and now all of Alderaan is on the brink of war!”

“Yula was not the woman for me, you know that, and I need to see him and make things right,” Gaul said after a heavy sigh.

“Again, not to say I told you so… which I did, but you broke his heart which I knew you would and I advised you not to and then you decide to throw fifteen years of preparation into the proverbial hole for what? A broken heart? The Ulgos want blood and Joran will be eaten alive by Yula we both know that,” Unther countered.

“Maybe mother will decide Jameela is the better choice,” Gaul responded.

“Are you daft, Jameela is smarter than all of us but knows nothing of court or politics, she can barely make it through a dinner party without excusing herself. She isn’t ready to be queen or even the heir, this was your burden,” Unther said angrily.

“Then it’s obvious,” Gaul said chuckling.

“I don’t… no, don’t you dare say it,” Unther said narrowing his eyes.

“Mother should choose you,” Gaul replied with a devious smile.

“Are you insane, I am not of the sacred blood of Panteer, I know my place in the House!”

“You’re Panteer as any of us, you bleed it and more importantly you know what it would take to keep this together. House Rist would leave Ulgo if the future queen was of their House and you have an heir, sounds perfect to me. Think about it, see you in a few days,” Gaul replied and then ended the call.

Gaul!” Unther said futilely and then sat back down and frowned. Gaul was right though, he wouldn’t tell mother which meant he had to start working on looking shocked when Gaul arrived. The things he did for the family.

House Rist is a well-respected House because they provide a vital service for all the major and lesser houses. The service of murder. A House a skilled assassins, one would think would be out of place on Alderaan but they are the height of fashion. They hold to their contracts and provide discrete services. Every House at some point has had to employ their services which would mean they have a lot of enemies and they do but they also control a lot of secrets which stays the hand of the more overzealous allies because they could reveal a lot of skeletons that no one wants out in the light.

Currently allied to House Ulgo, they serve as the underhand to Ulgo’s military strength. They prefer to strike from the shadows and do not field a massive military presence since they rely on asymmetrical warfare and assassination to cripple enemies. Giandra Rist has ruled the family for the last fifteen years and is as ruthless as she is skilled. She made her name in the field but when her mother retired, she took over and has been working on making the family influential and wealthy. It is rumored the alliance with Ulgo is one of opportunity and if a better deal came along, they would take it, given the right incentive.
