Mahon smiled as he toured the local works enjoying the multitude of creations, he was in tune with the local art community and this was one of his favorite events that happened monthly. Of course it brought out those that were looking to cut down the worst works but he had to take the good with the bad.

Elaranu had some good ideas for art. Definitely. They were great even. But no matter how good her hands were, she could not put them into practice. Her fabricated metal statues not only didn't impress or sell, they didn't offend either. Instead, no one seemed to even notice them, and she left the evening tired and disappointed in herself.

The art that Xanna was most familiar with was the sort that you made in the kitchen. She was so impressed with Mahon's work, especially the statue of Sloan, but it wasn't something she was ready to try (or do, depending on whether Master Yoda was in earshot). Instead she decided to spend the time offering critiques of other beings' work.

Her fellow citizens were initially sceptical about taking artistic lessons from 'Aren't you the pretty soup lady'. Yet it quickly turned out that she was really good at it. In fact she easily blended in as one of locals, and even managed not to upset anyone with her observations.

Daunt's imposing figure seemed enough to make his commentary heard - his head stood over the crowd. The only thing he needed was to find the right crowd, but he managed to do so.

"This art is way too curated, removed from our everyday experience. It has to be savage, brutal, direct and primal. Then we can see our true condition in it."

His point got through, though uneasily, causing disgust in those he chose to turn a blind eye on the doom of their sheltered lifestyles.

ME3. My Two Scents. Critique. Suspicion. Let's flip for me.: 1eP+1eA+2eD+1eS 1 success, 2 threat

But then, it triggered reactions contrary to the rational ones. People started buying tranquil artwork out of sheer melancholia and escapism. Daunt shrugged. It was apparently rare to look the threat in the eye rather than look away.

Jurdak showed up at the street fair excited to look at the new art that would be displayed there. He was no artist himself but the expression of creativity by those with talent was often something he loved to witness.

He started to browse the wares of the local artists finding some pieces he really liked. Dak used words like "contrast" and "lighting" and some of the people nearby listened in thinking he really knew what he was talking about.

As the night went on he found some pieces he really liked but by then he had gathered a few of the others who enjoyed his opinion on art and wanted to listen to his insights. He looked at for a long while and came up with.....nothing. Dak was at a loss it looked good but that was all that made it into his mind. The people looked at him expectantly, waiting for his thoughts on the work. "Hmm yes, well it is very nice."

The people's eyebrows went up in confusion, as if to say "that's it" when someone asked how much he would pay for such a thing Dak lapsed into another ponderous silence and after another beat he said "around 5000 credit." Good art was supposed to be expensive right? The people balked but Dak delivered the answer with such confidence that people realized it for what it was Dak was an idiot who enjoyed the pretty colors but ultimately knew nothing about art.

Kriff it. Sacha had done some dabbling in Mandalorian Cubism when she was younger. Time to see how much technique and art theory she remembered. It might even be fun.

Coming up with an idea wasn't so much the problem as coming up with an idea that the Imperials wouldn't take as treason or whatever. Mostly because it probably kinda would be. Eventually she managed to hit upon one that would be subtle, at least. Taking inspiration from their own history.

Her technique, she thought, was halfway decent. Especially for not having done this in years. Apparently not everyone agreed.

Whatever. Picky jerks. Her artistry was in her craftsmanship anyway.

by Jabber
Jabber didn't know much about art, the extent to which he knew had been hanging on the wall of Hutts, and you reaaaaalllly did not want to get critical about their works. However, he had heard that the art industry was one big con, and cons he knew something about.

An easy first step to gain a mark's trust was to dislike someone that the mark disliked in turn. Jabber waits for someone else to say something about an abstract work and then nods and chimes in.

"I totally agree. I mean, if you are going to go for a forced perspective, go for it, just make sure you have the rest of the scale worked out."

Rygor Street Art Night-Streetwise (average) with difficulty upgrade from Destiny: 1eP+3eA+1eC+1eD 1 success, 2 advantage
ImageImageImageImageImageImage (Boost passed)

What Jabber is saying is absolute bantha poodoo, but he says it with confidence and no one really understands art anyway.

"Look, I can respect the choice of medium, but if you are going to break convention, break convention. Don't go halfway, the result is just..." Jabber waves a hand vaguely, letting people come to their own conclusions.

Rygor Night Art Show-My Two Cents- Average(Cunning) with passed boost: 4eA+1eB+2eD 4 successes, 2 threat
ImageImageImageImageImageImageImage (Threat passed)

A lot of people start chiming in with nods and laughs at the tiny, eccentric critic, and Jabber gets more confident. "As to the price of art....I think we can agree that all art loks the same and if you spend any more than 5 credits on art, you are very stupid!

Rygor Art Show- Average Negotiation with setback, extra setback passed: 1eP+3eA+2eD+2eS 2 successes, 2 threat

That seems to ruffle some feathers, but certainly no one suspects that Jabber is anything else other than an eccentric, if tastleless and brash, art critic.

by Djanik
Djanik was not exactly an amazing artist. But the opportunity to pass off something as avant garde, and make some credits, was too good to pass up.

So he found himself among the various artists, trying to make up his mind on what to create. After a long time, he settled on his inspiration - and began to paint. The feelings welled inside him, along with his memories of times long forgotten and fresh in his mind.

The brush traced a blue form on the canvas, abstract, more of a line than a person, the form indistinct beyond the impression, however vague, of a woman. Then around that form he began to fill in, first with grays and golds, a jagged, industrial wasteland, yet it faded into howling tundra, windswept and barren.

Then over it all came fire, the sky raining with shooting stars... or the burning of doomed ships. Who could say?

And in the figure, standing serenely in the center of the storm, he added a single red eye, gazing at the viewer. Judging. Caring. Mocking. Compassionate.

Stepping back, he gazed at the painting in silence.

It was her, and not her. It was the girl in his memory, and not her either. It was the woman who had died, and not her either.

He nodded, and set down the brush.

Unfortunately, his own military bearing meant his attempt to explain the art was much more of a military briefing than a convincing sell, and while the audience was convinced of the importance of caution when exploring dangerous territory, of bringing sufficient firepower when entering hostile space, and of maintaining operational readiness, they were not entirely sure they should be buying this painting.

Juri, as dark as the events of the previous night had been, had somewhat been inspired. The depth and breadth of her knowledge of Lore that other scholars might not know served her well.

The artwork itself was thoughtful. A painting, in bright colors and stark contrasts. Those watching it would find a lone being standing in defiance of an oncoming horde of inhuman creatures, fire blazing behind them.

In the beings hand, a single bright spark of light, casting away shadows.

While she wasn't personable, she had found she had made an impression, and the piece sold quickly.

Dove was one of those artists that had a passion for her hobby, in that she was willing to spend money on things to fulfill her vision even if it meant only breaking even at the end of a night of performing.

But she bought a fancy keyboard, as guitar didn't fit with what she wanted to do now, and well... she did pay some indie-musician to create a backing track to go with her playing.

And like many birds, Dove could sing, and the audience seemed to recieve her well enough! Maybe some of them recognized her from previous gigs and songs.

"This song is called Light A Fire, folks."

"Loneliness, you're tied around my wrist
When all I ever wanted was this
Yeah, all I ever wanted was this
Sleepless nights, always seem to lose these fights
Building on my thoughts like bricks
But nothing in my blood says quit

When the lights go out
And I'm all by myself in the darkness
When the lights go out
I hear my heart beating the hardest

Oh, I was born to break these chains
Like a spark before the flames
Watch me light a fire, fire in my soul
Yeah, I can feel it in my bones
Like a dream ready to explode
Watch me light a fire

Battlescars, lead me through the night like stars
And all I ever wanted was this
Yeah, all I ever wanted was this
Out of bounds, when every single wall comes down
I'll be standing on the edge of greatness

Oh, I was born to break these chains
Like a spark before the flames
Watch me light a fire, fire in my soul
Yeah, I can feel it in my bones
Like a dream ready to explode
Watch me light a fire, fire in my soul

Fire, fire, fire, fire, fire, fire
Watch me light a fire, fire in my soul
Fire, fire, fire, fire, fire, fire
Watch me light a fire

When the lights go out
And I'm all by myself in the darkness
When the lights go out
I hear my heart beating the hardest

Oh, I was born to break these chains
Like a spark before the flames
Watch me light a fire
Yeah, I can feel it in my bones
Like a dream ready to explode
Watch me light a fire, fire in my soul

Fire, fire, fire, fire, fire, fire
Watch me light a fire, fire in my soul
Fire, fire, fire, fire, fire, fire
Watch me light a fire"

Mia sat in her booth, staring at her materials. She didn't have much to work with, given how she wanted to save her credits on more important things. In fact, the only thing she really had were boulders.

Her art teacher from Chandrila would have died from embarrassment.

Mia put forth her display, Boulderman, like a snowman but made out of boulders. She did arrange for a bit of glue so she could make the facial features out of pebbles and rocks too.

Well, at the very least, the person next to her would have to really screw up to not look better than her booth... but hey, someone actually liked Boulderman enough to buy it for 50 Credits. Or at least pitied her enough to do so.

Venator makes it out to the street art night and wanders about. He doesn't know much about art but that doesn't stop him from commenting about it and rather loudly at that.

"Dang. Da look like somed'n ya see on a windy nighd afder ya mama god inna fisdful of deafschicks. Golly da's nod a purdy sighd."

The other spectators seem to have a problem understanding his analogies or just plain words but they feel something despite all that by the force behind his words.

"Now dis here pardner... well da colour's all wrong. Ya dun use yella. Godda be red. Nod jus any red. Need some blood. Nice and fresh will do da drick." The commentary... actually seems to bring up a valid suggestion. Albeit a morbid one.

"I woodun' pay more dan 100 creds for dis. No make da 120 creds. Maybe 110 creds plus a real good drink." He seems to be controlling the crowd but aren't you supposed to be going the other way?

The Nautolan has carved a huge boat sinking, its stern rearing majestically into the air. All over the boat are little people being rescued by folks who look an awful lot like the resistance rescue team.

With a flourish she dubs the boat 'The SS Symbology'

To say Qareme was not an artist would be an understatement. She didn't feel like she could criticize others art. Art was just an expression of ones feelings, and it was neither good nor bad.

Maybe I should listen to my own words for once...

However she didn't wish to use others resources. Art did not need to be created by hand; it was created in the mind. At least, that's what Qareme told herself when she couldn't come up with something to create.

Ah, a story! But what story?

After a few moments, Qareme started to speak. It was a short, simple story that may or may not have been fiction, based on a woman who faced terrible odds to save someone she cared for. While many didn't seem to care for the story, the message of hope was clear throughout.

It had been a long time since Petrus had tried his hand at this. He used to do sketches back in his Temple days. People, furniture, animals... he'd just been working up to landscapes when the Purge happened.

Since then, he hadn't tried.

And, as he discovered, he'd let it grow as rusty as the rest of his skills. He let his stylus work over the page, almost at random, sketching what came into his head. Grimacing, he would tear it from his notebook, tossing it away, again and again, unsatisfied. Until he was left with just a few sketches, mostly from memory.

Xanna, looking brave. Sloan, towering but kind. Qareme, wisdom evident even in his poor sketch. And Verse... flipping. But okay, also bold. I didn't do them justice... but maybe I'll do better next time.

They weren't really very good, but the thought he'd clearly put into them, and the enthusiasm with which he talked about them, meant that a few were bought anyway.

Ru'ni had survived the incursion into the Imperial jail, and was filled with a joie de vivre that comes from facing down and conquering your own demons, so he started singing a traditional song of victory to welcome returning hunters from a great hunt. As he was starting though, he realized that there were many of his people that would never hunt again, and his song changed to a litany to the dead.

As much as this change in style and piece confused the critics, there was a simple honesty and vulnerability to the piece that they all seemed to appreciate. To those who offered polite applause at the end of his performance, he told that any financial appreciation could be donated to the Orphaned Aznuri Relief Fund (the OAR fund) to help relocate those individuals displaced by violence, destruction and war.

Verse needed to unwind after the day's events, and a festival celebrating good art was just the thing. Not that she knew much about art of course; so when she decided to participate she had no idea what to actually do for her entry. People did always say you should write about what you know. Maybe the same applied to painting? Well, it couldn't hurt, so that's what she did. Paint something she knew.

Image

It was perhaps her very worst work ever.

Even she knew it. But the point of unwinding wasn't to be the best at something, right? It was about having fun. And... oh no, she had to present this to a crowd of art critics? Well... better try and bullshit them!

"Ahem, everyone? What do you think of when you see this painting? I think of victory. I think of victory in the face of adversity! Friendship! Overcoming impossible odds! As seen through an imperfect lens and juxtaposed against the... hey, where are you going? Get back here! Ahem, I mean, you can all leave and go look at other paintings if you want. You just don't understand the brilliance at work here!"

She sighed. Then giggled as the last art critic left her behind.

At long last the nemoidian was in an environnement he knew well: money. Having a good eye for the intergalactic market he managed to help buyers and artist to find some common ground for the pieces.

by Ria'la Tu'roth
Ria'la didn't consider what he did for a living to be art, despite having to consider composition, framing and timing in every report. So it was a song he chose, one based on revolution. His choice was good enough but the performance was lacking. Maybe it was the wounds he still carried from yesterday, maybe it was the acoustics, or maybe he just didn't sing very well tonight.

Art least some folks liked it.

by Sinnya
Sinnya sat on a curb amidst the festival atmopshere, fussing with a simple flute made out of the femur bone of some kind of animal (a visybara, for the zoologically curious). She was trying to remember the fingering for an old campfire song she'd once known, but it wasn't coming back to her.

After a few endless minutes of tuneless tootling, she gave up with a sigh. Several people were staring at her skeptically, as if they'd been waiting for the real music long enough to realize that it was never, in fact, going to start, and they were now just curious to see whether she was going to figure that out.

Sinn shrugged and tried out a saleswoman's grin. "Would you believe me if I said... Ancient Twi'lek mating song? Eh?"

Her small audience seemed unconvinced. At least they wandered off primed to appreciate the next actual art they encountered all the more.

She decided she wasn't really in a party mood, anyway. She knew where to find a jar of cactus moonshine with her name on it... yeah, that seemed more her speed.

Next person can have a boost, though. Sinn is so bad she makes you look good!

by Brother Sloan
Mahon made this kind of stuff all time, how hard could it be. When asked how he came up with his ideas for his work Mahon told Sloan to "Be true to yourself." So that's what Sloan intended to do.

He had a giant marble slab he'd borrowed from his artist friend and prepared to do his work. He began smashing it wildly with fists, then followed up with a flurry of iron kicks. Finally he assaulted the slab with a series of painful headbutts.

"A masterpiece!" He exclaimed.

"Truly a work of art worthy of the Aznuri spirit."

Critics gathered around grumbling and frowning at the projectile debris that had cross contaminated the more...traditional...neighboring art pieces.

They looked at the rubble and weren't sure if they should be offended or not.
