While listening to the official emergency channels for information to help Juri tend to those hurt by the earthquake, Vaya had kept hearing reports of infrastructure damage. Power and information cables and transmitters had been misaligned, buried, torn, destroyed by secondary fires, etc. When she repeatedly heard law enforcement complaining about a glut of false alarms from private security companies whose systems had either been set off by the quake itself, or were giving the failsafe “disabled” signal because the building they protected had been damaged or lost power, she had an idea.

It was a busy day, so it was much later that she got to act on it, but she cross-referenced locations of businesses that likely kept cash or valuables with locations that were still suffering black- or brownouts due to infrastructure damage. Then, thinking of an offhanded bitter comment Sinnya had made the night the Enclave burned, about those who might swoop in to buy up the empty real estate, did a little more researching and cross-referencing.

Then she made a few comm calls to petty crooks she’d met at the Salty Nerf, offering to trade hot tips on potential scores for hard credits. She made half-a-dozen deals in half an hour.

It was a new kilometre plate in her limited life of crime, but maybe she had a future as a mastermind.
