[Day 5 - EA] Brunch at Tiffany's [Side Event]

Neighboring the slums, the Golden market is the place to come to find just about anything one could legally desire. An open air market for all walks of life. LIn addition to stalls are many small mini-marts and buildings hosting boutiques.

[Day 5 - EA] Brunch at Tiffany's [Side Event]

Veras checked her phone as she made her way to the cafe she was meeting her date at. She paused to check her clothes in the reflection of a window, her favorite jacket over a new dark black blouse and slimming pants with stylish boots to match. The message was from Liua who was keeping watch nearby which made Veras roll her eyes but the young Jedi knew she might be in danger and so insisted on being there just in case.

Veras made one last check and then sent a message asking for good luck and went on her date!

OOC: This thread is open to two other players besides those already here though they won’t be directly involved until the action probably kicks off. Until then they are not involved with the date.

Liua hadn't kept it a complete secret either. She had told her best friend just in case. So of course then she had to come along too, although she made sure that Veras did not see that she was also nearby. It was big sister ^ 2.

Anyway, surely nothing could go wrong on a harmless coffee date, even if she was supposed to be back at Oraka's cabin. Except there was the matter of Verse's vision. Well, it gave Xanna a chance to get some material together for crafting lessons.

Djanik had beaten her to the restaurant, an actually somewhat classy place, as he felt she should have something decent to eat if she came all the way into the city - he was dressed for a later meeting, in a somewhat outdated khaki green uniform jacket, brown boots, gloves, and belt. He had left off his cap, holster, and rank, as he wasn't yet wanting to broadcast who he once was.

She likely would see him before he saw her, as he was reading something on his datapad while waited.

Petrus was there, too, half keeping Xanna company, half looking for materials for his own projects, half keeping an eye out for trouble. This made three halves, but, well, Petrus was young; he had a lot of energy.

He wore his usual (now updated!) street clothing, along with his military pouch; couldn't be too careful these days. Along with his walking stick. And a small pouch of tools. One of which was actually a lightsaber.

Veras practiced her smile and then saw him and cursed herself for not getting here sooner. Now she was really nervous but she had to play it cool, older guys like cool girls right? She was sure she read that in a trashy online zine or saw it on a show? Maybe it was an influencer?

She approached and said, “Hey Djanik… fancy seeing you here?”

You invited him, idiot, of course he is here. She added, “Love the uniform, it’s really whizz.”

She then took a seat, “Have you ordered yet?”

Meanwhile at Team Shopping

Image
Liua lit up as they looked over the fabrics and said, “Just a reminder be cool, this is Veras’ first date so you know just be cool. I know we got that whole future thing going on but a girl has to live you know.”

“And she could do worse than Djanik, right?”

Petrus blinked. "Wait, first date? I thought she just wanted to meet another Pantoran. He looks older than her."

Petrus frowned, the disapproving frown of an Older Brother.

Djanik glanced up when she greeted him, smiling, and pocketing the datapad quickly.

"Veras! Glad you could make it."

As she stumbled through her greeting, he realized she was dressed up very prettily. And she had invited him to lunch.

Oh.

Oooooh.

Now a little off balance himself, he managed, "I'm uh, glad you like it. I thought I should dress up... a little... for lunch. You know."

Holding the door open, he offered, "I hadn't ordered, no, I wanted to give you the chance to see the menu."

It would also give him some chance to compose himself.

She got up and followed him, “Oh yeah, I am really excited to check this place out, they have some great food… or so my friend told me. It’s authentic pantoran food, I looked it up. I have never actually had any pantoran food so this will be interesting…”

She suddenly realized this might be a bad idea.

“If she wanted to meet another pantoran she has Xanna right here, wow you are pretty dense, Petrus. I mean he is probably a little old for her but older guys are just so much cooler than scrubby young losers, no offense,” she said with a shrug to Petrus.

"Well, Pantorans do mature a little earlier than humans, but still." She gave a protective older sister look in the direction of the pair at the coffee shop.

"Fine, Liua I am cool. And Veras should get to live a little. But let us make sure she does not get into trouble. Okay?" She gave Liua a quizzical arched eyebrow. "Wait, Djanik? The pilot?" They hadn't really spoken but at least he had been on the right side in the prison break.

Her lips twitched with amusement as Petrus got burned hard.

Petrus smirked. "Can't be talking about me. I still haven't done any scrubbing, have I?"

He shot Xanna a mock-hurt look as her lips twitched. "Betrayal!" He whispered exaggeratedly at her, his lips twitching.

Her slight smile widened as she pretended to ignore Petrus's protest. "Heart eyes is it? Ah, so she has fallen for a hero then? There are worse role models. Still, I am surprised the old man was okay about her coming to Rygor. After yesterday."

Xanna had been making preparations, but had still expected Veras to lie low for a while.

Djanik followed her in, and told the maître d' that they'd want a table for two.

They immediately caught on to the hints he had missed, only emphasizing how oblivious he had been.

As they were seated, his officer training, specifically, his manners, kicked in, and he found himself pulling out her chair before taking his own.

Damnit, that wasn't what he meant to do... right?

Taking his own seat, he glanced at the menu to buy time.

"I see they do have some local staples, if you prefer. I know Pantoran food can be a bit spicy if you aren't used to it."

Well, that took all the fun joking out of Petrus. He looked at Xanna, an uneasy look in his blue eyes.

"He learns that a big bad guy is gonna kidnap his daughter, and then she vanishes the next day? I think even someone like him would have a heart attack in those circumstances. There's only so much meditation can do, you know."

He looked around, eyes open for Imperial threats. "Maybe we should send him a message."

/screen cuts in/

Another pantoran girl loitered nearby, watching the restaurant, biting her thumbnail, looking mighty angry.

"You wait, Sleemo. I'll teach you to meet up with random hussies!"

Someone else had figured out this was a date faster than Djanik, it seemed.

She was impressed by his chivalry and took a seat and said, “Yeah I don’t mind spicy, my family tends to like bland food but I like a little kick I guess. Thanks again for meeting me, I was really excited when you said yes… I mean not like crazy excited, normal excited.”

“It’s nice to uhh get out of the country, you know.”

Djanik offered a lopsided smile. "I'm glad you were normal excited."

There, that was normal talk, right?

"It's worth giving Pantoran food a try - though I'll recommend you get a local appetizer, just in case. I wasn't kidding about the spice - it's a dry heat, it sneaks up on you."

When the waiter stopped by, he requested a cup of kaff, for himself, and glanced at Veras, to see what she would prefer.

Being something of a diplomat in training she managed not to say what she was thinking. "Yes. He should absolutely know what is happening."

"That is probably a good idea, but make sure he knows we have eyes on her. We do not need him rushing over here and being spotted." This assumed he used a communicator device of some sort. If not she would have to try reaching him through the force.

"Thanks mom and dad," she said rolling her eyes.

Meanwhile inside the Cafe...

Image
Veras considered her choices and then said, “can I just get a water, with ice and umm… the spicy poppers look good? Want to share that as an appetizer? It’s not a dry heat though.”

She giggled at her joke.

“So, did I tell you I almost finished my ship! It’s my family’s ship but I’m the one rebuilding it.”

"No, you didn't."

He raised an eyebrow, surprised.

As she placed the order, he just nodded to the waiter, and then returned his attention to Veras. "I didn't know you were a mechanic, you're a girl of many talents, it seems - mechanics and business both."

It seemed he was surrounded by women mechanics - it was truly a thing of wonder.

She turned her attention to looking for any incoming threats.
