Shadows of Bankor

It had been a difficult night for Rannek. Dreams seemed to mix with visions... voices with echoes. His eyes opened much earlier than he was accustomed to... and with it there was a feeling. The feeling which he had felt for much of the past few weeks... only today there was a readiness to it. A direction... an urge.

He found a ride out of town and into the hills around Givak. He asked to be dropped off when he felt that familiar feeling again and set out on foot through the hills in search of... who knows what.

The draw brings him deeper into the wilds way from the roads and trails and into truly wild country. The trees here look old, the grass seems untrodden, and the stones are well aged. Then there is the sound of a blaster and another and a figure rushes out of the brush and runs up along a tree and flips back with a green lightsaber lit and a blast shield helmet on so she can’t see.


She said angrily, “Kriff, who the hell are you!” She then reflected three quick shots in succession before a fourth hit her leg.

“Droid! End training.” She then looked at Rannek and said, “You didn't see anything, just a girl and her droid.”

“Luia?” He asked with a look of bewilderment in his face.

“You have a lightsaber... You’re training....”

“Wrong, it’s… a flare, oh you found me, good job stranger man,” she said clicking off the weapon.

“I was… in distress no training here, there was a warcat… oh it was scary and I ran and then the droid shot me… you believe any of this?”

“N-no... Sorry.” He replied. “I’m a bit surprised by it all... there really are Jedi on Bankor then...”

“Who’s been training you?”

"Slow down sleemo, no one is training anyone..." she said warily.

“No... I think you might misunderstand... I am... was... t-trained too.” He reached into his backpack and pulled out a lightsaber hilt.

“I was following a feeling... a call from the Force... and it drew me out here...”

"Well another Jedi... unless this is some kind of trick, tell me something only a Jedi will know?" she responded.

"That only a Jedi would know.... uhhh..." He stared at the ground.

"Master Yoda liked to eat frogs... Or... Master Mundi was actually a really good break dancer..." He replied. "Something like that?"

“Never heard of Mundi, but Yoda I heard of… also what’s a frog?” she asked.

“Never mind, follow me sleemo and no funny business… I think you’re cool but can't be too careful.”

He nodded and followed her. He asked as a follow-up, "There are no frogs on Bankor? Little green hoppy things that go 'ribbit' in the night?"

"I have no idea, I live in the city, kid," she responded.

"Ah that's right... Sorry... Auntie?" He replied as if unable to understand how to address her since she was most likely younger but he was 'kid'... Maybe she was much older... Like that lady that had given him the lightsaber crystal...

"Liua is fine, Randy right?" she replied as they walked.

"That's better than Sleemo." He said with a smile. "It's Rannek. But whatever's easiest to remember."

An old man spoke, "Welcome Rannek." His eyes were closed as he meditated near a fire as the duo approached.

Rannek approached the fire and walked around to the front of the Jedi. It was a face he recognized... not from personal experience, but from the wanted posters available almost anywhere one would go on the planet.

"Oraka Hin... I mean... Master Hin." He nodded a humble greeting. "So you are here..."

He paused for a moment, "I came following a feeling in the Force... Did not think it would bring me to you."

The old man nodded and said, “All things are connected Rannek, it doesn't surprise me that we have come face to face in this moment.”

“You seem confused.”

"I uhh... suppose I am a bit... I uhh... I've been having dreams... feelings... as of late... that I've pushed aside for quite some time. Yesterday... a woman I know gave me a package... in it was a lightsaber crystal. It's been twisted by the dark side... It brings up memories of the past... Painful ones." He said as he pulled the package out of his pocket.

"I was looking for a place of respite... Could feel the Force calling me from these hills. I was not expecting to find the most wanted man in the system. I'm afraid I don't know you... My real name is Juba Unduli. I was Master Talon A'kla's padawan for a short time... and my aunt was Master Luminara Unduli. I've been... running... for quite some time."

“So are you still running?” he asked. Liua took a seat and listened.

"Uhhh... yup." He nodded. "That's why I'm here on Bankor. Another Jedi back on the last place I was tried to recruit me to his resistance force... I uhh... ran."

He paused, "But when I got here... there was this lady... I was pulled aside by the Inquisitor. He had pulled in this lady named Riala. Said she was supposed to have found you... He tortured and killed her for having failed. Apparently she had a kid... I've found the kid. Been looking after him. And it's caused... some feelings to start churning around inside of me."

"You are not ready yet, but you could be. Not ready for what it is you think you must do," he said calmly.

He nodded, "There are so many questions... I don't have ... I don't even know. I don't have the means of finding peace while the world is so... dark around us."

"When you stop running and accept peace within yourself, we can begin," he responded.

He nodded but then tilted his head, "How does one do that? I mean... people died because of who I am. People have suffered and died because you are out here. How does one live with that... find peace with that on them? We could stop it by turning ourselves in... but then the bad guys win. Running is the only thing that keeps hope alive."
