[Day 6, MM] Buried treasure? I'd settle for a trade wind

It was quiet and peaceful as she stepped out onto the golden sands of yet another beautiful island. The Warrior's Heart sat on a rocky outcrop between the beach and the treeline. Veras had given her some lessons, and she had watched Jenna flying a few times now, so it was easy enough to fly the craft a short distance and land it in the open

Her toes dug into the sand and she walked down to the shoreline, enjoying the cool breeze coming in across the water and the cool feeling of wet sand. There was a reef around this part of the island, with some breakers turning into curling waves further out. She stopped to watch some small fish-like creatures swimming around in the shallows.

After a few minutes of observing their antics she started walking again. Before long something caught her eye... What was that?

Day 6. MM. Island hopping, anything here? Scavenging roll. Average Streetwise.: 1eP+2eA+2eD 5 successes, 1 threat

"So why are we happy we found all this junk?" Liua said looking at the scavenging.

"Liua, this is not junk, it is salvageable materials." She held up a power converter, one somewhat careless owner. It was part of a downed fighter. The toughened outer casing and partial burial in sand seemed to have protected the insides from the worst of the salt spray.

"We have a base to build, and the Empire has locked down Rygor. So a find like this could yield useful parts." She pulled her tool kit out of the backpack and started checking it more thoroughly.

"If you say so," she said following along and helping. "Sure does look like junk."

She couldn't help but laugh. "Junk? This?! Well okay, that is a piece of junk, but that is an intact focusing lens. You could use it in a blaster, or even a lightsaber."

She pointed out a few other little treasures. "Undamaged circuit boards. Cable and wiring. Even the fabric under this seat, see, it is reinforced for protection. I could make armour inserts out of this."

"It just looks like a junky chair," she said flatly not sharing the excitement.

"You might be more interested if it is saving your life one of these days Liua?" She pulled the piece out and started stripping down the useable parts. "Which reminds me. I was thinking I would like to make you a new set of clothes. Like mine. My...Jay suit I suppose?"

"Uhh... sure, I guess but I can't make anything for you," she responded.

Xanna looked at her, a little confused. "Um. Okay. I am not asking you to make me anything Liua..."

She went back to her work. "Anyway, I have come up with a few designs for extra protection, so I thought you might like something? And I am going to show Veras how to make clothes."

"Just you're always making stuff for people but we don't ever make anything for you," she continued.

"Just makes me feel bad."

That made her stop what she was doing. She turned to look at her new best friend and tilted her head, a smile slipping onto her face briefly. "You know. I came from a place where we had everything. We wanted for no-thing... Our family had acquired riches over generations that were beyond imagining." She sat down in the sand and looked out at the ocean.

"Do you know what my family did with all of their riches Liua? They hoarded more, and more, and more, and more. It was absurd. They did not work a single day. They did not know hunger, or worry about getting through the day to day, or deign to ever worry themselves about other beings." She pulled out a flask of water and took a sip before handing to her friend.

"I was young enough that it seemed normal. For family to treat each other with contempt. To acquire things for the sake of being able to say they had them. But it did not feel right to me." Her childhood flashed back into focus. She shook it away, but his image was there for a moment. Her earliest guide. The ghost.

"Anyway. The point is... I might have become, that. Selfish. Small-minded. Oblivious to the lives of others." She stood again and dusted the sand off. "So, I give what I have, and I help others as best I can. Sometimes that is soup, sometimes it is clothes, or even a conversation. If I am helping you, it is not because I expect something in return. I know this is not what you have learned to expect on the street, but it is who I am. Please do not feel bad about that."

"Wow... I used to dream of being a rich princess, having butlers or whatever," she said with a shrug.

"Seemed better than the crap I had to deal with. Being poor suuuuuuucked."

"Our butlers had servants. Hold this would you please?" She pulled out a piece of metal with a blue metallic sheen.

"Yes. It does suck. So, I suppose you could think of me as giving something back for the insanity of what I came from." A few more pieces were tucked into her pack. "And if you still feel bad...well, you could always help me make things? I mean, that is what we do in the soup kitchen."

"Okay I guess, I was going to learn how to fly space fighters like Veras but I am sure this is just as cool," she joked.

It was hard not to laugh at the quip. "Well, perhaps when you are tired of being excited by all of the flying, swooping, and spinning?" She looked up at the sky and then back at the ship. "I would like to fly like Veras too, but I think you will be far better at that than me. So, when you are bored of all that excitement let me know."

"Sure that's a deal... so you and Petras spend a lot of time together, I mean a LOT, you guys like going out now?" she asked.

"Not that I care, just wondering."

"Well... I suppose yes, we are feeling that out. We do like each other a lot. I mean, he is so very...well, Petrus at times. But that can be rather charming..." She sighed. "It is difficult for Jedi though. Emotions, attachments. Many have fallen because their feelings were used against them, or because they could not see past them."

Turning, she pushed up and sat on the remains of a wing. "Would it upset you? And I mean honestly Liua, do not be putting on a brave face. I would not do something if it would hurt you."

"No, I am fine with it," she said honestly.

Her shoulders relaxed on hearing that. "Oh, good. I am glad. Do not think he will be getting off lightly though. I still do not believe he knows how to use that sponge..."

"I will only get upset if you guys decide to leave me behind," she said flatly.

Jumping down onto the sand she stood up and put a hand on each of Liua's shoulders. "I promise you. I will never leave you behind." Her thoughts shifted to Valus. I will never leave anyone behind again.

"Then I have nothing to worry about so tell me more about being rich," she asked.

"Well your lungs might disagree, but sure, you see the thing about being obscenely rich is..." She stopped. Looked out to sea. "You know what? Since we are being completely honest. Would you like to know a secret? Something I haven't told anyone since I came to Bankor?"

"I love secrets, you tell me one and I will tell you one," she said.

With a nod she looked back from the sea to Liua. "My real name is Eleeza. Xanna Teevou was the name of my favourite storybook character when I was a child." She smiled.
