Sinnya had pointed out that the Sword, as was true of every structure erected by sapients since time immemorial, had been made use of by non-sapient life. There was seaweed and limpets on every exterior underwater surface, beachgrass growing in any place soil had been blown by the wind, the nests of flying creatures on high surfaces inside and out. And, of course, there was every manner of thing that walked, crawled, or slithered, hot-blooded or cold, scales or fur or carapace or somewhere in between or all of the above.
As Vaya was well aware, ancient texts complaining of vermin were common to every society that ate food that the indigenous vermin could also eat, and tended to be dated to the same time they kept granaries.
They decided to put their expertise together.
First, Vaya surveyed and cataloged the extensive sightings, looked up them with known species, and then took a survey as to which animals were most likely to increase morale by their presence, or decrease morale my their messy removal. She presented the cross-referenced document to Sinnya.

"That's, uh, it's definitely a list." Sinnya felt her eyes might be crossing slightly as she tried to decipher the cross-references. "We better start by putting out traps for the mud-shrews..." she muttered half to herself as she tried to show Vaya how to assemble a vermin trap from green twigs, scrap fabric and silver space tape. Most likely Vaya would manage to assume an entirely supervisory role, especially since the task involved grubbing around in the tidal mud to place the traps.
Several hours later, Sinnya would discover that her devices had been almost complete unsuccessful at keeping mud-shrews out of the air vents. They did, however, trap about a dozen crustaceans which turned out to be quite tasty when cooked, so... not a total loss.

That was still to come, though. Right now Sinnya was half covered in damp sand as she straightened up, semi-effectually brushing the mud and sand from her hands on the front of her jacket, when she noticed a familiar passenger from the
TBD's return voyage nearby. "Hey, Vaya, is that...?"
