[D6LE] Charismatic Megafauna

Sinnya had pointed out that the Sword, as was true of every structure erected by sapients since time immemorial, had been made use of by non-sapient life. There was seaweed and limpets on every exterior underwater surface, beachgrass growing in any place soil had been blown by the wind, the nests of flying creatures on high surfaces inside and out. And, of course, there was every manner of thing that walked, crawled, or slithered, hot-blooded or cold, scales or fur or carapace or somewhere in between or all of the above.

As Vaya was well aware, ancient texts complaining of vermin were common to every society that ate food that the indigenous vermin could also eat, and tended to be dated to the same time they kept granaries.

They decided to put their expertise together.

First, Vaya surveyed and cataloged the extensive sightings, looked up them with known species, and then took a survey as to which animals were most likely to increase morale by their presence, or decrease morale my their messy removal. She presented the cross-referenced document to Sinnya.

Fourteen years, that is a long time although for her it felt like only a dream of a few hours maybe less. She had opted to return with the people from Bankor and now that she was this close she was unsure of how to approach this and was… she smoking! That was not how a young Malvik should be acting from a distinguished lineage of power and grace… and in that moment she realized she had become her mother and that was equally depressing.

She had grown strong, she was not enamored with the hair or the style but rebellion was a teenage right of passage. Was she really this superficial, yes… she was apparently. She smoothed her gown and pulled back her hood not that she needed it, who would even recognize her?

She had learned that Drascovina had been raised by rough people, the people she thought would be there had a terrible accident and now… Maker knows what she experienced, but she was gifted like her grandmother, so that was a small blessing. Lucinia always felt her mother resented her for not being Force sensitive maybe it wasn’t true but she felt it and knowing that Drascovina was on that gave her some relief that her own mother would be at peace.

She introduced herself, “Drascovina, umm… hello I am… your mother, and I am so pleased to meet you.”

Liua was busy helping move supplies from another transport, but there was a lull so she sat on a metal box and lit a cig and looked around watching the other people. She closed her eyes and sang a song to herself to pass the time, it had been fun to talk to Xanna about her past… she still didn’t get the big deal about being rich though it sounded amazing but whatever.

If she had to choose she would choose rich every time, it sucked having to go hungry.

Then she heard the worst name ever, Drascovina.

She looked at this strange woman, she looked posh and hopped off the box and said, “Come again? Don’t know a Drascovina, sleemo, it’s a dumb name.”

She fumed and said, “Drascovina Liuacinia Malvik!”

Lucinia balked at the attitude and said, “Now young lady, I know you have been living among these… riff-raff and vagabonds but a Malvik must maintain a certain level of decorum, you are descended from a powerful lineage, the Malveaux and we hold ourselves to a higher standard. I have no idea why you would employ such foul language but that is not how you should have been raised.”

She took a deep breath and then said, “Now, I am your mother, Lucinia Malvik, and I am sorry that I was short with you but my word, you must use your manners.”

Liua blinked at the woman using her full name and now looked at her face and said, “This isn’t a joke? Are you real?”

She was stunned, angry, elated… and more angry. She wanted to believe this was a sick joke but no… this was real and this woman, no her mother was here. The woman she had wanted to be there when she had sleep on the street or went hungry or she had to learn how to defend herself… and now she was here.

Xanna didn’t like her family and Petrus had family here and now she was faced with this. What would Jedi Dad do?

She pictured his face and then said, “Mom?”

Lucinia’s heart melted at the single word and she wrapped her arms around Liua… she knew there was going to be a lot of explanations and conversations and apologies and oh so many apologies but somewhere inside she wanted to believe that things were going to be alright.

“Yes, baby girl, I am your mother,” she said holding her daughter tight, tears of joy spilling off her cheeks.

“I missed you so much.”

Liua was… confused but happy and she just allowed this all to happen, there were so many questions… so many questions she needed to know.

But really she just needed to have one thing answered, “Are we rich?”

((Whoops, missed the window to roll! Still...))

"That's, uh, it's definitely a list." Sinnya felt her eyes might be crossing slightly as she tried to decipher the cross-references. "We better start by putting out traps for the mud-shrews..." she muttered half to herself as she tried to show Vaya how to assemble a vermin trap from green twigs, scrap fabric and silver space tape. Most likely Vaya would manage to assume an entirely supervisory role, especially since the task involved grubbing around in the tidal mud to place the traps.

Several hours later, Sinnya would discover that her devices had been almost complete unsuccessful at keeping mud-shrews out of the air vents. They did, however, trap about a dozen crustaceans which turned out to be quite tasty when cooked, so... not a total loss.

((Roll failed, advantages spent on dinner. ))

That was still to come, though. Right now Sinnya was half covered in damp sand as she straightened up, semi-effectually brushing the mud and sand from her hands on the front of her jacket, when she noticed a familiar passenger from the TBD's return voyage nearby. "Hey, Vaya, is that...?"

Vaya, holding a datapad on which she was keeping track of trap locations (with space to enter the number and type of creatures captured), had had her antennapalps on the conversation from the moment she had noticed the ancient woman.

“Yup,” she said, shifting her footing on the sand. “Sure is. That’s… uh, nice. For them.” It sure was an emotional reunion, just, out there in public for everyone to see.

Vaya left out a soft hah! “They have some nice real estate,” she said quietly to Sinnya, “But you know what they say…” she looked at Sinnya, who may or may not have known what ‘they’ said. “Location, location, location.”

After the hug and awkward words the family duo make their way to speak in private.
