[D10LM] Doing the Impossible

[Petrus Karath]

It was a slightly bleary Petrus that wandered down to the ship's common area, still dressed in undershirt and sweats. It was a little chilly for that, but he didn't mind. He brushed a hand across his face, and back through his red hair. He wasn't sure how many drinks of his namesake that he'd had, but it was definitely enough.

He paused a moment at the counter. They'd fought back against the Empire. It was not a final victory, but it was still a victory, after he'd spent so long thinking that it was all over. There were losses: people who'd given their lives for the resistance. Perhaps people on the other side who they might have found common ground with, in other circumstances, like Jenna's captain. And, of course, Oraka, one of the last remaining Jedi.

Petrus smiled gently as he moved around the counter, into the little kitchen area. Yes, there was loss. But much more than that, there was hope. They'd changed the galaxy yesterday. Who knew what the new day would bring?

As he considered the future, Petrus turned on the hot water in the sink. And, Spongemaster 9000 in hand, began to wash the dishes.

Everything has come together, everything, the Empire was off Bankor and the threat of them breathing down their necks was gone. Vandil was dealt with, the deal got her off the hook, no longer did she have to feel the dagger hanging over her head every waking moment. For the first time in a long time she didn't have anything to fear, no impending threat hanging over her life.

With a spring in her step she came jogging up onto the ship, having taken a lesser transport to get to the island, and went to each room before the last looking for people. It was the kitchen where she eventually found someone, seeing Petrus first she ran up behind him and took him into a sudden hug nearly pushing him into the sink.

Their home was gone, the Empire uprooted their lives from the slums but they were still together. Stronger.

They were family.

Having stayed behind to help with the post-party clean up operation Xanna was also feeling tired and bleary-eyed this morning. So much had happened in the last few days that it was hard to process the idea of a normal day. At least the temperature on the ship was getting slightly more sensible. She threw on some sportswear and climbed down from her cabin.

Walking through into the kitchen to get breakfast started she rubbed at her eyes a few times. There was some sort of force vision going on. A long long time from now, in the far future. Jenna, deliriously happy. Petrus, doing the dishes. Actually they didn't look that much older. Well maybe this was important, so she waited in the doorway for it to clear.

"This looks more real than the last one. I should have left the mask in the Temple..."

"Hey!" Laughing, Petrus stumbled forward as his sister suddenly hugged him from behind. "I love you too, sis, geez." He patted her hands somewhat wetly as they squeezed him, then reached up to flick water back over his shoulder at her. "What's up?"

Xanna's voice made Petrus glance over with a smile. "Good morning, Xanna. Uh... what?"

Shaking his hands and scattering water droplets, Petrus picked up the next dish, a big bowl. "Either of you wanna be my dryer?"

"Hmm? You are...oh." Rubbing her eyes again to make sure it was really happening she shook her head and folded her arms across her chest. "Well I will be a Wookie's aunt! You really did it then. You unwrapped the sponge?"

Stifling a yawn she laughed sweetly. "I think will favour this moment for a while longer. Perhaps I should call Ri'aly? Ask him to record this for posterity?"

Laughing, Petrus flicked water at Xanna, too. "Sure, why not. Liberation of Bankor, Petey the junior assistant washing the dishes. Pretty much equally newsworthy, right?"

He held up the Spongemaster 9000, showing it off. "But... yeah. It seemed like the thing to do. I mean, we've all gotta do our parts, right? And I think this is mine. I mean, really, I'm pretty good at it."

His dishwashing technique actually did look pretty good. Thorough. Lots of elbow-work. Deep scrubbing, thorough drying, good rhythm.

Since she was already in flicking distance she walked over to the sink to watch him and placed one arm over his shoulder and one over Jenna's. "You know I am told they still do those little pieces about every day life and strange unexplained happenings. Here is one." She lazily gestured at his work then kissed him on the cheek when both his hands were in the water.

"Master Kenobi trained you well."

Jenna ducked when the water came at her, but didn't stop tightly hugging around his chest until Xanna came over. As when she came over she was quick to switch targets. Waiting just long enough for her to be unoccupied before making her move. Latching onto the woman and squeezing as tight as she could and throwing her weight into it, "I love you both!" she said with no shortness of glee.

Pulling back, she resisted the urge to jump at them both again. Throwing her arms around both of them this time she didn't manage to resist for long as she held both of them as tight as she could.

"He did." Petrus said, smiling, leaning briefly closer at that kiss on his cheek. "A lot of them did. I wonder what other stuff I learned from the little things they did. Like, washing dishes." What small things did Oraka teach them? For a moment, his smile was tinged with sadness.

But only for a moment. "Hey hey, I can't wash the dishes like this!" He gave sister and girlfriend each a nudge with his elbow; better than putting wet soapy arms around them. "What brought on this sudden, uh, whatever it is, Jenna? Not that I mind, of course. But this is the happiest I've seen you in a while. What's up?"

"I-I'm," she couldn't come up with the words almost, releasing them for a moment like a kid up on stage for the first time about to give a performance.

"I'm- I'm free,"she said, breathing a fresh breath of air, "Vandil, last night I.. I had an opportunity. There was a list, one I came across when we were getting the data for the resistance. A code cylinder with information, all the information you'd need, on artifacts. Vandil is.." she paused, caught a breath, "Vandil had an interest in them. I knew she did, would, so I traded it. I'm free, finally free."

[Petrus Karath]

"Artifacts?" Petrus frowned gently. "Like... uh... what kind?"

Well, whatever. Petrus shook his head, then grinned. "Hey, that's great Jenna. Whew, that's a weight off of both of us, I think. Let's hear it for not having to deal with a crime lord anymore, huh?" He started washing a pan this time, carefully brushing so as to not damage its non-stick surface. It really did seem like he knew what he was doing.

She hugged Jenna back warmly, at least warmly for a colder being. "Oh Jenna, that is so wonderful!" It felt like a weight had lifted off her friend.

"I had no idea a crime lord would be so interested in artifacts, but I suppose they are worth much." Maybe her own quest would reveal as much...

"Anyway, the important thing is that you have your freedom. And now you can decide what comes next." She smiled happily at the obvious joy and relief. "It is a day for pleasant surprises." She gestured towards Petrus' display.

Jenna looked to Petrus, thought about her answer but he changed the subject, and she let it go. They'd have that conversation later, probably, she didn't want to hide that from him but.. right now.. right now she just wanted to enjoy this moment to the fullest. Acting like a twenty year old who was excited that her life was on track and she could hope and dream again, which was amusing considering she was.

"I'm free, we're all here, we have ourselves a family, a ship, and.." she paused on the thought, as much they have lost because of the Empire. Their homes and their lives that they'd built on Bankor they came back stronger, because they had a home here now, "a new home, together, right here. Petrus," she exclaims, raising her hand in his direction to harp on the same note, "Petrus here is also washing the dishes. We have the makings of doing the impossible right here, living impossible lives and chasing impossible dreams."

Jenna laughed, smiling a teasing smile at her brother and a heartier one to Xanna, "Next stop.. whatever we want?"
