My Body Was Ready [Daunt's Q&A]

My experience with this game had ebbs and flows, it overlapped with my winter vacation so while I was on often I couldn't always focus on being duly creative. I blame myself for being too reactive overall, hope to get back my groove in future games. There were things that worked out and those that didn't in what I hoped to get from the game. Overall, I think Daunt wasn't as interesting a character as some others (MM citation rate of zero or near zero is one measurement of this), maybe too one-dimensional, maybe my more-of-the-same devil's advocacy, maybe my writing got too simplistic and uninspiring. Whatever it is, I hope I was able to make threads with him at least somewhat interesting/enjoyable for the involved.

As usual, if you have questions that can be answered now, I'll do so.

Did Daunt have any major goals you got to work on during the game?

I wanted a Force Awakening arc, one with some bouncing between Light and Dark. Daunt himself was far less driven. His Virtue was Malleability and his Flaw Confusion. He was invested mentally in finding his purpose outside Maul's shadow and in rebuilding the Dathomiri.

To be fair, MM is really a bad way to decide on how interesting a character is. Mine never make MM, and people still seem to remember them in later games.

MM tends to attract a certain sort of post - not necessarily indicative of a character writ large.

That said, I found Daunt interesting. I think it would've been fun for you to have more time to work on the moral issues Daunt was wrestling with. I think he was a good foil for a number of cast members, and I enjoyed my threads with him.

Yeah I wasn't really sure how to tackle that, but he did get involved a lot of different things but I know you wanted something else I just wasn't sure how to realize that really.

Thank you for the great start, and even the story of heartache. No questions fron me.

Thanks, Djanik. Same here. I count our thread on moral issues among the best during this game.

I should have made it easier for you, give you more to work with. Food for thought how to do it right. I am particularly grateful for the Force scene.

I thought Daunt was great, sorry I didn't push for more threads. It amused me that Valus was training you but we were hanging out doing soup kitchen things.

I'm just curious about what you were doing/planning with the bounty hunting/criminal stuff.

Daunt wasn't really a bounty hunter. Dak showed him some ropes and that was it. He had been a hard-boiled CD soldier/enforcer who brutalised people on Savareen and then was transplanted onto Bankor by Maul for whatever reason. His relationship with Vandil was causal, just establishing himself locally as someone, and for first part of the game that didn't change since he hadn't got a memo that she was already working for Maul. When Crimson Dawn appeared formally with the Disciple, he appeared there to connect with them and join the effort. But then things went off the rails during second interim and he had to reassess. His action against the Disciple was triggered when Maul gave him the task to kill Lyla which after some agonising he concluded he didn't want to act on. That meant a defiance that could possibly be ameliorated if he devastated Maul's plans for Bankor. Alas, he was able to just do a part of it (the Disciple) because there was a structured event and not with Vandil because she had some plot armour and much other armour. So it turned out kind of pointless and my oomph was lost. So right now, if there's any right now, I'll have to redefine him somehow because most of the background is non-performing.

Just a GM's note he can still pursue his agenda but it was always go to be one or the other, there were not enough resources for both.

I get that. It boils down to unrealistic expectations of the character IC.

I had zero idea of your backstory with Valus until much later OOCly, and ICly never, and Xanna didn't open up enough for Daunt to ever get a hint. I liked our threads though! I really appreciated when you inserted the meat delivery part into your narrative. I play for having some impact on the wider world so this was something I really enjoyed.

Yeah, she wouldnt have revealed it anyway so as to protect you. If anyone knew that she knew Valus, and he read their mind, it might get them killed.

Thanks for the meat delivery :D Yes, I wanted to incorporate as much of that stuff as I could so it was appreciated 8-)
