Friendly Neighborhood Padawan (Petrus info)

Hello there!

A few things went into Petrus.

First, I'd just seen Into the Spider-Verse. The huge number of Padawans reminded me of it... I got the idea for playing Peter B. Padawan, a character who'd been traumatized by life... but was still good-hearted and heroic, if he could just remember how to be. Some other bits got added in (I took some elements from Prince Callum), but that provided a base to work off of.

Second, while I'm probably well-known for playing good/nice characters, my last two were a departure from that. Too much dark! I wanted to do a character that overcame his trauma, rather than got deeper into it like my last one did.

Third, I had a lot of great character connections! Jenna, Dove, and Mia beforehand. Xanna and Sloan and Liua soon after that.

This has been a terrific game. Thanks everyone! Questions or comments welcome.

I unfortunately wasn't around to see the end... do you think Petrus has earned the status of no longer being called "the kid?"

Thank you again for much fun, for a new and interesting dynamic between our characters, and for making such a Nice Young Man like Petrus. :D

I really picked up on the Spiderman-vibes, mostly because Petrus seemed to be very troubled with internal struggles, which is a big part of Spiderman comics actually, as Peter Parker often struggles internally rather than externally.

Has Petrus' opinion on the Jedi Order and its edicts/rules changed over the course of the game? Things like attachments, and such? Will he get to see the season finale of Warrior's Heart after we liberate Bankor? Does he feel like he's come more into himself and what it means to be a Jedi now?

I really enjoyed Petrus, he's a regular hero that one ;)

Would you classify him as a passive or active character? ((seems like he starts passive, goes through his arc and then winds up active, like most heroes)) And do you ever find it hard to make that change? I've definitely had passive characters where I was contriving all sorts of reasons early on to get them involved in things.

Well, he's a Jedi Knight, so... maybe.

I sorta leaned into the first sheltered then overprotected thing with him. As such, while Petrus wasn't the youngest character I've played, he sometimes felt like it. This was interesting!

I enjoyed playing with internal struggles. It gave me a lot of great roleplay material, and a lot of reason to go out and do things, as Petrus did his best to overcome his weakness, and be a hero. Fear was a fun one to struggle with, as it can effect so many things. And it came from trauma... I do love scenes dealing with that.

Petrus has had strange feelings about the Jedi Order for a while. His current thing is trying to educate and engage their allies more about who Jedi are, and what they mean. How quickly everyone turned on them after the Purge sorta shocked him. He was trying to engage the topic of justice regarding the Inquisitors; he thought they shouldn't be punished, but felt that the Jedi needed to address the way that people felt about them.

Attachments... Petrus obviously has those! I'm of the opinion that it's not the fall that kills you, it's the ground; that is, having an attachment is fine... it's the inability to let go when you need to. This would probably be a problem for him; he's pretty close with Jenna and Xanna especially. But, on the other hand, the two Inquisitors were redeemed because of their attachments. There's more that I'm hoping to discuss in a conversation with Xanna, if the player has time!

Going through the Trials was HUGE, and let me simultaneously resolve several things about Petrus at once. It was just a small thing, but the Trial of Courage being "Yes, you obviously get a point here" was actually a big character moment for Petrus. Likewise, being able to resolve the other half of his guilt about his master... it was just a series of rolls, but it was really well done, and I think everyone involved did some great writing there.

It was a little tricky, because I wanted to have that arc without ever having that arc, if that makes sense? But I always wanted to be involved in stuff, and I'm glad I was able to jump right in. My origin gave me a great excuse to get involved quickly, and I jumped at it.

I'm actually somewhat risk averse, so this game has sometimes been nerve-wracking for me! But, like Petrus, I've been trying to overcome my fear, and go in to dangerous missions.

I really enjoyed interacting with Petrus. It seemed like there was a lot to him. Hopefully he and Sacha will be able to work together again soon, even though her path ended up being far more toward being Mandalorian than anything. He was certainly a force (lel) in making her feel a little less nervous about this weird sorcery that's suddenly a part of her life.

Was there anything you found out about Petrus that particularly surprised you? Did his story take any unexpected turns that changed his thought process or perspectives besides the Trials? Were there any moments you felt like were iconic for him?

Thanks! In addition to Warrior's Heart, teaching Sacha about the Force was a really neat scene!

I think the main thing that surprised me with Petrus was how he got involved in the riskier things. But in the first couple of days, he was able to accurately identify his weakness, and then work to overcome it. This meant that I, OOC, deliberately went "suicide mission? Yes, Petrus is in". Seriously, the Origin thread had a huge effect on the course of his character, as well as some of the Jedi meditation scenes after that.

Being a Hoshin was a surprise too, of course, but that's not something Petrus did!

I think the iconic moment for Petrus was when, for the art thread, he drew pictures of all his Jedi friends. Petrus drew a lot of strength from those around him, and drawing them all as the heroes he saw them, was a great expression of that. There were lots of other good moments; Warrior's Heart, the Hydroyoga scene with Xanna, Dove giving him a lesson on, uh, aspects of dating, 2 scenes with Jenna...

I've had a really full game (but still a little short of Faily at the end, curse her!), and so much of it has been great.

Petrus' defining moment from the past?

Highlight of the game?

Moment of despair?

Most un-Jedi-ish In character thought?

1) Shortly after the start of the Purge, Petrus interceded to defend an alien family from some stormies on Corellia. He succeeded, but it brought Jedi hunters down on him and his master pretty much immediately. This is what lead to him being so overcautious and depressed, leading up to the start of this game.

2) Goodness, there's a few. I think I would have to pick discovering that Petrus is a Hoshin. I mean, damn! I sat on that knowledge for about a day and a half until I could reveal it in-character, the better to surprise Verse's player. But there have been a ton of amazing things. Seriously, so many.

3) Right when Petrus talked Neela down (well... she did most of it herself), and it seemed like things were gonna be okay. And then Mahon died. Petrus had to deal with both the loss of a friend, and knowing that if he hurt, it probably eviscerated Neela.

4) Gotta go with the various times he nerded out about Warrior's Heart. I'm pretty sure that's not a typical Jedi hobby...

I guess Layne needs to put Petrus on the lifeday card list now.

You finally washed a dish!

Thank you for being such a big part of the game for me. Right from the Origin scene, which was a brilliant touch, through to the currently happy ending. There were a few scenes where I wish I'd had more time and energy to add a few more posts, but all of our scenes worked out really nicely despite that imho.

Of course we've chatted about this a lot over discord but I really enjoyed Petrus' arc from scared guy in hiding to heroic Knight. It was nice to have Xanna be the spark that lit the flame again. Looking forward to the next game where hopefully the family will all be back: Jenna, Petey, Sloan, Xanna, Liua, Veras, and who knows, maybe Stephe Poule too?

You're character certainly sounds like a fun time. Its too bad we never met.

So Peter instead of Miles?
