I Rannek So Far Away (Q&A)

Howdy! Altogether it was a pretty fun time. DD was great and helpful. I seemed to have a bit of a difficult time meeting up with people and fitting in to some degree. Seemed like I ended up being the odd-man out on the Jedi thing. Seemed to reach a point of over-saturation and I ended up on the outside of that loop for a mix of scheduling and other reasons, but had a good time with everyone when we were able to chat.
If there are any questions let me know.

Rannek's turbulent past?
Highlight of the game?
Moment of despair?
Most un-Jedi-ish In character thought?

1) Yeah, fairly turbulent. Was a youngling, became a padawan and his mom freaked out because he wasn't being trained by a Mirialan (which apparently is a big deal for them), so instead of creating a problem for the order he left and went back to Mirial during the war. War ended, his old master found him and helped him escape but his parents were executed as pro-CIS and pro-Jedi traitors. His master was from Caamas, so he took him there and the Empire blew it up a few months later (Master also dies there). He then wanders around just trying to not die for the next several years.
I didn't have much of an opportunity to reveal that in normal RP. Found it someone difficult to have Rannek be all... open about his Jedi-ness when he'd had such a colored past in recent history. Most of the other padawan crew all became tight quickly and Rannek unfortunately wasn't built to suddenly be in a group like that. I probably should have created the backstory a bit different in hindsight. But I ended up writing down some of the scenes from his past in memory form like I sometimes do when I can't seem to find the right moment to reveal it to others.
Anyone who is interested can take a gander here:

2) I enjoyed the D1 Inquisitor scene. Was very much in line what I thought about the game coming in. A kind of dark... Jedi Outcast-type vibe. I tried to play Rannek as somewhat painfully honest because of the Cunning 1 and so it was fun to play that out. Also purifying the lightsaber. Rannek got to have a moment of becoming his true self again... So that was nice.
3) Not so much a moment of despair per se... but he had a trial of sorts in the cave under the waterfall near Oraka's house. For whatever reason I just failed every roll, but I tend to look at that now as just a vehicle for story telling. Failure is part of any character's journey and it was a big part of Rannek's too. Later the Orokos dice ended up in his favor so I also got a moment of triumph in there too.
4) Un-jedi... that can be taken a few ways I guess. Un-jedi in like a philosophical way would be like when he was drowning in the Waterfall trial and got filled with fear. Un-jedi in the lewd way would be... hmm... There was a moment I remember him (me as him) thinking Liua was cute in a spunky and self-willed way. He liked Liua from the first impression. So while not all that lewd at all... the closest thing to lewdness would have been that.

So I noticed you have the mercenary and bounty hunter traits there. Did you actually do any of those jobs? Or were you wrangled in pretty good with all the Jedi and Resistance stuff?

Didn't really interact as much sadly as I thought we might when I first saw another miralian in the mix.
Given his whole thing with a traditional miralian family; what were his thoughts upon meeting Verse who was totally not that (and didn't even have tattoos)?

The first couple of days he did some bounty hunting. He and Sacha took down the Rodian guy from the first set of bounties. Session 2 he switched more towards self-discovery/jedi stuff. He never really ended up with the Resistance crew however. There was a small kid he had been looking after who ended up at the Resistance base so he found himself there, but unfortunately I didn't have many threads with the Resistance crew, so he kind of was just there to hang out with Gibsy.

He thought she was a funny little lady. Her description of not being around the culture much and pretty integrated in Jedi things made her no tattoos not such a big deal. I imagined they had some kind of interaction as kids that they both didn't really remember all that much but still made it so Rannek didn't think poorly of her. Rannek by in large is a pretty easy going guy so getting all worked up about cultural differences probably isn't something he'd end up doing.
In my mind Rannek's tattoos themselves weren't that extensive and were probably the markings of someone who had experienced remarkable loss.
