Ru'ni decided he'd keep an eye on the storm before hunkering down. Climbing on top of the flipped transport, he gazed out into the distance just in case the weather decided to do something screwy.

Just a real smooth sandstorm with lightning and lots of sand.

[Sinnya]

Sinnya finished taping up the tarp as a second line of defense against blowing sand. It really did get everywhere, if you let it. She left one edge unstuck for now so the Aznuri boy could get back in.

She found she really didn’t like to think about killing people after one had sat and talked with them and everything. Or about those people trying to kill one afterward, either. It was somehow really different from taking down a big predator attacking your campsite or hunting for food, which was pretty much all the shooting she’d ever done at live targets. The whole conversation was making her uncomfortable, so she slipped outside.

“Hey.” She whistled a somewhat embellished bird call to get Ru’ni’s attention. “See anything from up there?”

Ru'ni looked to the Twi'lek girl and offered her a smile, even shifting over so she could find a seat if she so desired. He didn't know her, but the different tribes were still kin enough that he felt a shared bond with her.

"A thing of eminent beauty and unmatched destruction." He answered pensively, accompanied by a contented sigh. "The majesty of nature at work. It is a pleasant reminder that for all the technological advances the sentient species make, they still pale when compared to the power of the natural world."

[Qareme Torth]

Qareme had fallen into silence while a debate raged on about the lives of the captured troopers. She had confidence the right decision would be reached, and it appeared it had been. Although she couldn't do much to assist, she helped where she could to clear the way, and soon was able to reclaim her large walking stick. It made for much better movement assistance than the walls of the ship.

"You're welcome," she said reflexively, before others spoke their piece. Apparently there was no soup kitchen.

While others focused elsewhere, the large Zabrak took her opportunity to loom over the much smaller Mirialan and softly said "you survived. I'm glad."

Sinnya scrambled up on top of the overturned transport, fairly nimble despite the borrowed stormtrooper rifle slung over her shoulder by its strap. She shaded her eyes for a better look at the storm. “Looks like it’s a big one. It makes a nice picture... while it’s over there.” She bit her lip. “I’m still glad we got the aircon working.”

Ria'la squatted down in front of the captured 'trooper, careful to be out of Binky's camera shot.

'Now, handsome, why don't you tell us what you know about Camp 14?"

He smiled slightly to one corner of his mouth, incidentally drawing attention to Dove and Mia, clearly visible over one hair strewn shoulder.

"It's a nice place to go if you like to suffer," he replied warmly.

"Look I am not going to say anything useful until I am not bound like a Life Day Alderaanian goose, I have assurances I won’t be shot, and I get a nice glass of wine, the good stuff none of that Bankor trash. I am flexible on the wine though.”

“I do dislike being difficult but not thirty seconds ago people were discussing my murder like it was sport, so you’ll forgive me if I am leery of revealing all useful cards at the pazaak table.”

While others focused elsewhere, the large Zabrak took her opportunity to loom over the much smaller Mirialan and softly said "you survived. I'm glad."

"Huh," She turned around to look up at what she was pretty sure was someone addressing her as if they knew who Verse was. "Do I kno-- wait... I *do* know you, don't I?"

She wasn't a 100% on it; after all, it had been a while; but hey, sure seemed like it was.

"You were with Master Claflem," she said, face lighting up just as the Zabrak might worry she was going to throw more Jedi-specific words than 'master' around, "...weren't you?"

Rayne is totally not listening to Verse.

"It's a nice place to go if you like to suffer," he replied warmly.

He moved from the squat to sitting in front of the trooper, moving the eyeline behind him from Dove and Mia to Yusandr.

"I'm not in charge here, so I'm not sure I could release the restraints even if I really wanted to. You see you're trained for combat and I'm just trained for conversations. Also, they. . . " He indicated the bindings. " . . . go a long way to lowering any threat of violence in here right now. We're all stuck here for the coming sand storm so why don't we get to know each other better?"

Rayne smiled and said, "I never knew my mother and my father was a military man. No siblings. I joined up to pay for University, and I dislike blue milk. Yes, sadly I'm still single. There was someone back home but it would never work, because they were awful."

"Huh," She turned around to look up at what she was pretty sure was someone addressing her as if they knew who Verse was. "Do I kno-- wait... I *do* know you, don't I?"

He paused to think, one hand brushing his hair out of his face.

"Such a long way from home with that accent as well. I'm still on the planet I was born on. Been all over it but still only one planet. So was it the Grand Army of the Republic when you signed up?"

"Those were different days but yes... Times change though. I planned to muster out soon actually after my tour here was done but then this happened. What can I say some of you folks are growing on me, so not all bad," Rayne said warmly.

Thankfully Qareme remembered the girls clumsiness in phrasing.

"I knew such a person, yes. I remember you, and you do know me. I had not expected to meet you here again of all places. Why here?"

"Oh, well..."

"At least you seem exactly as you were before. For better or worse."

She peered over at the others, before turning back to Verse.

"Have you got somewhere to stay in the city?"

"Those were different days but yes... Times change though. I planned to muster out soon actually after my tour here was done but then this happened. What can I say some of you folks are growing on me, so not all bad," Rayne said warmly.

He smiled again.

"Well then. How long do you have left and do you truly believe the Empire will let you leave their service?"

He shifted to sit crosslegged, just a smidge closer to the 'trooper.

"Recycled air. Lovely." Ru'ni responds with a tinge of sarcasm. "But still, it will be far better than whatever conditions that storm brings, however pretty the light show."

He pulls his gaze from the horizon and finally introduces himself. "I am Ru'ni of the Orosini tribe. I haven't seen you around before." He stated simply.

Rayne thought on that and said, "298 days, 14ish hours... But whose counting? I expect they will shoot me on sight but ultimately we all have to live with our decisions. Do we take the expedient path because we can or make the hard decision and do right even if you submit yourself to risk."

"Maybe there is still some hope in this galaxy."

Rayne shrugged and said, "We'll have to see what tomorrow brings."

"A lot can change in a day. Why only yesterday I was minding my own business in Rygor wondering where my next story was going to come from. Reporters run towards shouting generally, as we expect to find the news there . . . not sudden unconsciousness and waking up in here. I had a table booked at Herennio's as well."

He shrugged.

"At least I won't have to watch the Rodian Opera that goes with the food there."

"You dodged a blaster bolt with that one, you're welcome," Rayne replied.

Qareme wasn't surprised.

"At least you seem exactly as you were before. For better or worse."

She peered over at the others, before turning back to Verse.

"Have you got somewhere to stay in the city?"

Someone else might've asked about what part of that was supposed to mean. Not Verse though; she took it as the compliment she was sure it'd been meant as.

"I've got a room. Nothing fancy or anything, but at least they don't charge as much for it on this planet. Prices have been going up around the sector, feels like. What about you? I mean, if you need it I think there's room for an extra person. Well I mean, a me-sized person at least."

"You dodged a blaster bolt with that one, you're welcome," Rayne replied.

"Thank you. Let's make sure you dodge one or two as well shall we?

Another smile, another flick of the hair.

"So how is training these days? Still done offworld?"

“It’s offworld,” he said quietly.

“Brutal and tough, not much more to say than that. Why did you get into doing this? Why risk your livelihood and not just tow the line and live a much safer life?”
