Sister Viati said harshly of the strange person calling him Pex, “Laowai…”

She shook her head and said, “Yusandr is trouble, she fights the Empire and brings their wrath, I do not know this Weggs person.” She placed a hand on his forearm and then said, “I see it now, I see white haired temptress and that one must be Weggs, such hair she has… these laowai bring nothing but trouble.”

She then removed her hand and said, “I… the people are thankful you were not harmed, brother.”

The others listen and another Aznuri a twi’lek said, “We must not involve ourselves.”

Another a female human seemed disgusted and said, “We of the Uliji believe we should fight, these Empire laowai will not stop at this city, they are like glow ants, they will spread unless checked.”

Awww, Ru'ni's friend thinks I'm a temptress. <3

It's perhaps not the best form to MM a post that mentions one's pantslessness, but it really is a very good post:
Vaya Mer'darrow wrote:
Tue Jan 28, 2020 10:30 pm
She could never remember, later, why she and Petrus had been out of doors. Was it an errand? Were they just taking a walk?

They heard it before they saw anything. The Imperial war machine was many things, but not quiet. The clank of walkers, the scream of TIE fighters and dropships. Then they saw the smoke.

Vaya smugly considered herself quicker on the uptake than most people, but she hadn’t realized until then the vast gulf between understanding what was happening and reacting. It didn’t matter how much earlier than Petrus she had put two and two together to make four, quickly correlating the evidence of her keen senses with all of her knowledge about how the world worked to understand, with terrible clarity, that what she had tried to warn Sister Hulia about the other day was coming true, at an awful magnitude.

What mattered was Petrus, running off in the direction of the Enclave, to do something. Even given the horror of the occasion, Vaya found herself smiling as she sprinted to catch up. She’d lamented, in her darker moments, that Petrus seemed an unlikely vehicle for the advancement of her spiritual enlightenment. Sometimes within his earshot (“If the Force was going to reach out and knock my whole life afterburners-fore-cockpit, couldn’t it have given me a fated encounter with a Padawan who wears pants?”). Those doubts were distant, now.

Before he outpaced her, she panted something to him that Hulia had said only yesterday. “The Empire is Sith,” she said. “All the stories… the Sith thrive on fear. They use it as a weapon.” It seemed important. That was all she had breath for before she waved him on ahead, but he nodded like it meant something to him.

Up close, the sound was overwhelming. She’d always hated the way TIE fighters grated against her antennapalps, and each blaster shot was like getting a stylus jabbed at the base of them. Worse were the noises of the people, even the safest of them torn by fear and grief.

She had, on more than one point in her life, been accused of being like a mynock fleeing a crippled ship. She always thought mynocks got a bad rap -- they were survivors, and she respected their hustle. She looked for the ‘mynocks’ that had hung around the Enclave, hoping to guide others through whatever secret ways they used to avoid official notice, even using her infrabinocs to check for sewers or aqueducts. There was nothing, nothing that could save anyone near enough, even if she could convince the terrified residents to follow a strange laowai underground.

Her body wracked by the chemicals of stress and fear, she found herself no longer trying to help in any grand sense, but instead caught up in the maelstrom of the fleeing Anzuri. Together they tried to merely survive, and, perhaps, offer each other small kindnesses: a hand to lift the stumbling, a gesture towards a place presumed safe, a swallow of water from a bottle.

There came a moment when, at least where Vaya was, the attack ebbed, and an account of an ancient plague came unbidden to her mind: “...as if its energy was flagging, out of exhaustion and exasperation, and it was losing, with its self-command, the ruthless, almost mathematical efficiency that had been its trump-card hitherto.” She would be amazed when she took account of her injuries later, an array of burns, bruises, abrasions, blaster grazes. She remembered receiving none of them.

As long as you can be kept under the control of those who believe they are stronger, you will continue to be as strong as others allow you to be, and once they believe you are no longer a threat or surplus to requirement, then what? If the Jedi are all destroyed now, does Darth Vader continue to require Inquisitors, or do they become the next threat to him?"

Qareme opened her eyes, and looked at the woman.

"I say this not to convince you to spare me. My life is forfeit, and I accept my fate, as I am sure you are aware. I say this to spare you from becoming the next on the list after the Jedi have gone, as once they are gone those who wish to consolidate power will move onto the next target. You are strong, but you are also not a weapon. You are a person, under that mask. Under that suit. Under the clouds of darkness and emotion. That person you saw when you looked inside you is you, not what you wear now to do the bidding of others."

(Can I flip a destiny for thread/speech effect here?)

Part of me, I think, adheres to that old merit rule that wasn't so much a true rule but a common understanding kinda rule that posting threads you are also in is a little self-promoting? Or something? And that it was lesser than a true MM post of something you found somewhere that was just super cool.

Which, I re-mention, was an old merit rule that wasn't really a rule at all but was nonetheless a sentiment that guided my MM interactions in the past.

Now, I'm picking this thread to put on the spot not because it's inherently super developed yet, but because it shows an example of some writing I am very fond of. There's a lot of work that goes into Vaya's posts, and you can find them anywhere, but they're really great and I think help capture the scene and character well always.

So, for here, have a post of some real heart to heart from Vaya that I honestly loved so much for both meta and not meta reasons:

"Oh... kay," said Vaya, the word spoken as an inhaled breath, a pause, and then an exhale. In between she considered Jenna thoughtfully, unoffended. "I know what it's like to look back on how you got here and wish you hadn't. Or, had followed a different path. I ever tell you how I got off Balosar? Planet's a pit, and everyone there's like a bunch of Acklays in a pit, all clawing and pulling each other down to try and get out themselves." She gave a short laugh. "I guess I didn't leave a pool of blood on the floor or anything. I just scammed my way into the spot of some maybe harder-working person for a scholarship by kicking back some of the stipends to the bursar." She looked soberer. "I guess that wasn't the worse thing I ever did, though."

At last, driven by Jenna's efforts, she got up grumbling from her perch and started tidying the kitchen, rather than just staring at her. The tidying was very slapdash. "I guess what I'm saying is, I was surprised to see you there, but I'm sure as hell not going to judge you. For doing whatever Vandil wants to settle your debts, or for whatever you did before. Petrus wouldn't either." She said the last part very casually, leaving Jenna the choice to either actively affirm that he knows, or doesn't know, or to let it pass without doing either. She continued lightly, "And hey, we can watch each others' backs. I'm not working for Vandil because she has nice legs, it's because if things go sideways I want to have the credits to get out of here. And I'm not going to ditch my ticket to enlightenment, and he'd be pretty useless for anything if he lost track of you, so we're all in this together, right?"

As he went on, he began to move his hands, demonstrated. "So then, the Mandalorian warrior has to go into a maze with twenty of them, naked, oh, except for his helmet of course-" Petrus nodded, "- get to the altar at the center, drink from the Chalice of Mandalore the Unbroken, and make his way back out. Dacen Stormheart's enemies poisoned the Tihaar in the Chalice, of course, but he still made it out."

Petrus let out a breath. "So... yeah. You wanna watch that?"

He reached out, patting her on the shoulder. "You're a good kid, Liua." He said.

Liua listened intently and then weighted the words in her keen analytical mind, but everything was in the past tense so what did that mean? She was practically an adult and not a kid, what was she five? Lovely young woman but not gorgeous young woman, because he’s an idiot. She chewed over the words and then dropped her cig in the bowl and said, “Thanks for the food.”

“I am gonna go home, I am tired… you’re a good kid too Petrus, real good,” she added.

“Bye Verse, nice talking with you. I think you’re gorgeous… everyone is gorgeous except Petrus, he’s the woooooooooooorst! Jays out.” She was upset… or not upset or maybe she was just confused no she was mad and happy and her heart pounded and now she just wanted to punch his stupid face.

So she made a hasty exit instead.

At one point she frowned slightly. "Actually Petrus, I think that the council awarded Jedi Skywalker a seat on the Council but they did not promote him to the rank of Master. He was too inexperienced at the time, or something like that, which seems like a fair point." It was a shame though. They could really use someone like him in these dark times.

"My teacher? Well, when I arrived on Bankor I did not really know what I was doing. I ended up in the Slums and was about to get into some trouble with some sleemo street gang when this old Besalisk appears. He had two blasters and two rolling pins and the gang just runs." Back on Chandrila, there were two things Mia was known for: her leadership and her physical capabilities. Sure, reassuring Sinnya would have been sensible, but they had already done so much of that. Instead, Mia was going to rely on her muscles.

It was a great plan. She loaded up pebbles, rocks, boulders onto the speeder and rolled up her sleeves. She had heard of Jedi tossing objects through the Force to take down people so why couldn't she throw them with her own 'Force' at the incoming Imperials?

The whole premise of this thread is gold, so it's no surprise that the contributions are very good, but the idea of the Jawa waving-and-chattering transplanted to an art gallery is very funny to me, and I really liked the strong throughline of the theme in this post (highlighted by me in bold):
Jabber wrote:
Fri Jan 31, 2020 3:41 pm
Jabber didn't know much about art, the extent to which he knew had been hanging on the wall of Hutts, and you reaaaaalllly did not want to get critical about their works. However, he had heard that the art industry was one big con, and cons he knew something about.

An easy first step to gain a mark's trust was to dislike someone that the mark disliked in turn. Jabber waits for someone else to say something about an abstract work and then nods and chimes in.

"I totally agree. I mean, if you are going to go for a forced perspective, go for it, just make sure you have the rest of the scale worked out."

Rygor Street Art Night-Streetwise (average) with difficulty upgrade from Destiny: 1eP+3eA+1eC+1eD 1 success, 2 advantage
ImageImageImageImageImageImage (Boost passed)

What Jabber is saying is absolute bantha poodoo, but he says it with confidence and no one really understands art anyway.

"Look, I can respect the choice of medium, but if you are going to break convention, break convention. Don't go halfway, the result is just..." Jabber waves a hand vaguely, letting people come to their own conclusions.

Rygor Night Art Show-My Two Cents- Average(Cunning) with passed boost: 4eA+1eB+2eD 4 successes, 2 threat
ImageImageImageImageImageImageImage (Threat passed)

A lot of people start chiming in with nods and laughs at the tiny, eccentric critic, and Jabber gets more confident. "As to the price of art....I think we can agree that all art loks the same and if you spend any more than 5 credits on art, you are very stupid!

Rygor Art Show- Average Negotiation with setback, extra setback passed: 1eP+3eA+2eD+2eS 2 successes, 2 threat

That seems to ruffle some feathers, but certainly no one suspects that Jabber is anything else other than an eccentric, if tastleless and brash, art critic.
