Djanik held his left against his chest, the scraps of his uniform sleeve hanging loosely from his bloody arm, where raking claws had torn skin and cloth both.

As the last monster reached for him, claws grasping, he leveled the blaster with his right arm fully outstretched, looking down the sights, and squeezed. (Aim twice)

The blast slammed into the monster's face, burning a hole in through the skull, dropping the body lifeless to the floor.

Rushing toward Ela and Bowze, he looked to see if they were badly injured, as if he somehow could help them.

For her part, Elaranu slumped against a wall, head still held up. Her leg hurt like hell, and there were ugly gashes across her stomach that trickled blood steadily.

Djanik knelt by her, his expression a mixture of guilt, anger, fear...

He gestured to the defective remote, telling it to look for some way out.

Everything had gone wrong.

It was his fault. He brought them here. He caused this.

Tears threatened, and he blinked them away.

"I'll find a way out, hang on, ok?"

"I'll take you, there might be answers on the pad... I'll figure this out, I swear."

He was locking up, becoming businesslike again, emotion sealed away.

Pulling out the probe controller, he looked to see if it had found any route out, any hints as to how to escape the mess they were in."

The rubble behind them collapses revealing the path out is still clear.

Well... that was something.

"I'll go get the medkit... hold on."

Rising, he hurried over to Bowze, lifting the neimodian over his shoulder, he helped them stagger back to the ship, where his medkit was.

After settling Bowze in the 2nd chair, he grabbed the kit, mindless of his own blood spattering his uniform, and ran, back to the cave.

[Elaranu]

For her part, Ela just wasn't freling up to standing. She didn't feel in any more fear really, but her mind was going over things in a very analytical way, most about injuries and biology. She barely even noticed the others scrambling around and ducking out actually.

[Verse Aura]

As Djanik went to work on Bowze, Verse moved over to Elaranu. She had no idea about any infections or anything like that; all she knew was how to jam a stimpack into someone's leg, and that is exactly what she did after fishing one out of a pouch.

"Hey, are you alright? Here..."

Her gaze swivelled around to survey the scene, still so uncertain as to what had happened.

Djanik came back, medpack in hand.

He wasn't exactly a skilled medic, but he could bind an injury.

Looking around, he was glad to see Verse wasn't hurt. Going to join her, he opened the kit, pulling out bandages and disinfectant.

"I thought they were dead. I didn't realize they could be alive after all these years."

Staring at the cuts on his own arm, he swallowed. "I think... maybe we shouldn't all go home just yet. Those of us who got hurt."

Looking between Verse and Elaranu, he added, "I think those things were people once. I found a dead one the last time I came - still wearing a uniform."

Taking a slow breath, he concluded. "It might be best if you came with us, Elaranu, we have an isolated outpost where we can quarantine until we find a cure."

I will find one. No matter what.

[Verse Aura]

"But wait," she asked, confused, "You knew these were here? Where did they come from? What *was* this place? I thought you said they were working with chemicals or something, I didn't expect anything like this."

[Elaranu]

The stimpack certainly helped with the pain and bleeding, and Ela sat up more straight, seeming to come into focus, which would be a correct assumption. Finally putting her pistol in her leg holster, she hissed a bit under her breath, not wanting to interrupt the impromptu question and answer session happening.
