[Day 5 - EA] Brunch at Tiffany's [Side Event]

[Djanik]

"Please don't smoke on my ship."

It came out before he could stop himself.

Then, his face indigo, he turned back to his control consoles to hide his expression.

How do I get myself into these messes?

[Petrus Karath]

"Twice-removed?" Petrus murmured, although his lips curled up at the wink. "Uh, yeah, Petrus. Nice to meet you."

"Ummm..." He brushed a hand through his hair. "It seems like you're already pretty well informed. You're owed an explanation, can't deny that, but we've got enemies that can read minds. So..." He spread his hands awkwardly.

He snorted at the command to Liua. "You heard the man, Liua." Petrus said, grinning, leaning against the wall.

[Dapper Dog]

"Please don't smoke on my ship."

“Since you asked nicely,” she responded with a shrug, though she obviously didn’t stop.

“You both are literally the worst,” Liua said to Petrus as she took a final drag and then dropped it to the floor and stamped it out.

“Happy?”

[Djanik]

Djanik nodded. "Yeah, it's impossible to get the smell out of the leather seats."

It was a property owner thing.

Turning back to the group, he sat at the top of the ladder, looking down into the hold.

"So, did any of you keep a hold of that appetizer? After all, we did miss lunch."

[Petrus Karath]

"You get used to that." Petrus said blandly to the other man, even as he shot a quick grin at Liua.

He settled back, crossing his arms with a sigh, his expression turning more serious. He cast a look of presumably shared concern at Xanna. It looked as though the Inquisitors were deliberately targeting Verse to get to Oraka...

He sighed. "No. Was it good? Sorry for interrupting, uh..." Petrus cleared this throat. Whatever that was. "I promise, the stormtrooper squad wouldn't have waited for the entrees to arrive, either."

[Djanik]

"I understand." He mostly felt bad for Veras. No girl should have her first date ruined by a squad of storm troopers and a TIE fighter, especially before they even got to try the appetizers.

Rubbing at the bridge of his nose, he added, "I guess the question is what next? I don't really feel comfortable just dropping you off without knowing you made it home safe."

[Dapper Dog]

"Get used to it sleemo," Liua quipped.

[Xanna Teevou]

She shot Loua a Look at the H word. "It is better this way for everyone Djanik. But if you give me your comm channel we will let you know she made it home." This was Star Wars so their paths were bound to cross again.


(OOC: Isn't Petrus' big Jedi reveal in a later timeslot? But maybe you already knew about that? Stop telling everyone Petrus...deeeemoted. Actually Liua is the known Jedi, but Petrus will probably still earn a demotion.)

[Djanik]

"After all that, you still don't trust me."

He shook his head. "Well... be careful, ok?"

Looking to Veras, who had been uncharacteristically quiet, he added, with his lopsided smile, "Maybe you can show me that ship you're working on another time. "

[Dapper Dog]

“Look it’s not like we don’t trust you, the Inquisitor can pull things out of your mind, we are doing this to protect you. And if they think you are lying, well I hope you have a good doctor to reattach limbs or your head,” Liua replied.

[Djanik]

"I already know her, I doubt it would save me."

He sighed, and waved one hand wearily.

"But yes, I wouldn't want to endanger you further."

[Dapper Dog]

Veras just looked out the window her cheeks a vibrant purplish hue.

[Petrus Karath]

"Thanks." Petrus sighed. "Really, I mean it. For the flying, and for helping keep this, y'know..." He mimed zipping his lips shut.

He looked back and forth between Djanik and Veras, as best he could from down below. "What happens next isn't entirely up to us. And we do need to be careful. But hey, look at it this way." Petrus smiled. "We'll put in a good word with her father. That's something, huh?"

[Xanna Teevou]

"Exactly. This protects both of you, and others." She tapped her chin. "Perhaps we could arrange a visit at some point, for you to see the ship?" She gave Veras a faint smile. Liua would probably enjoy putting a bag over Djanik's head and leading him through the countryside.

"And yes, thank you again for getting us all out of there Djanik."

[Djanik]

Djanik wasn't sure that was what he was asking for, but he really didn't want to hurt her. She really was a good kid... a young woman, even.

He was probably too old for her though.

Still, he just had that lopsided smile that crossed his face when he was nervous, or something amused him, and the absurdity of his life was... funny.

"Either way, you'd probably best get back... don't want to be out in the open if they come looking."

Reaching beside the pilot chair, he opened a small crash box, extracting a familiar box of jerky. "Here, a snack for the hike."

Offering it over, he added, "Just send me a message when you all get there. I'll be a lot happier knowing the four of you are safe, ok?"

[Dapper Dog]

Liua added, "Hey Xanna, Petras, come help me wit this thing outside... you know the thing... that Jays thing."

She gestured, assuming they had landed. She made her way off the ship, "Guys the thing!"

[Petrus Karath]

Petrus sighed, shaking his head. "Right, Liua." He said blandly. "The thing. That makes sense." Shaking his head again, he picked up the grapple gun he'd loaned to Djanik. "Take care of yourself." He said, giving the other man a vague wave.

"C'mon." Petrus murmured to Xanna. "Let's go see about this thing." Smiling, he gave her a playful nudge with his elbow as he walked past.

And then he followed Liua out.

[Xanna Teevou]

She took the comm code and nodded. "Sorry, we have a thing. I will let you know when we are all safe." Moving off she raised her voice. "Okay I am coming to help with the thing."

[Dapper Dog]

Veras relaxed and said, "So... I guess you probably won't want me to bother you anymore?"

[Djanik]

"Did I say that?"

He looked at Veras, and said, honestly, "I didn't realize... I mean, I can be a bit thick."

With a wry grin, he tapped the hull of his ship.

"Not quite as thick as this, but close."

Taking a deep breath, he tried to answer, and then... failed.

Looking for words, he said, softly, almost to himself. "I'm a bit old."

[Dapper Dog]

"How old? Like fifty? Thirty-five?" she joked.

[Djanik]

Djanik paused, doing some mental math.

"Turned 25 two months ago."

With a soft laugh, he added, "Twenty five, washed up, ex flyboy."

Running one hand along the cockpit bulkhead, he added, "I'm sure there are a lot of better guys out there."

[Dapper Dog]

“I’ll be sixteen in a month,” she said with a shrug.

“At least I can say I had a super memorable first date! Got shot at… got into a dog fight… kissed a handsome pilot! This was the best, thank you.”

[Djanik]

"You're welcome, and I'm serious... you're a great girl."

He smiled. "I just think you can do better than a guy like me, right?"

With a faint sigh, he tried to find words.

"And I enjoy hearing from you. Maybe send me some updates about your ship, eh?"

[Dapper Dog]

"As long as you promise to name this beauty, it needs a name!" she said making her way off the ship.

"Thanks for the fun afternoon Djanik, sorry your ship got shot. Byee!"

She left the ship.
