"They chose to be there, guilt yourself if you wish but it helps no one. Unneeded guilt is like carrying water to an ocean, a pointless gesture," she said with a shrug.

"I suggest you find some rest, we have a bed here if you need it."

"I shouldn't stay here."

He rose, balancing himself with his right hand on the table.

"I'm a risk if I lost my wits here, in surrounded by people."

"This is the safest place you could possibly be on Bankor, you would be a threat to no one," she said honestly.

Djanik stood there, looking at the woman.

After a long sigh, he just stated, "You won't tell me who you are."

With a grimace, he added, "Or what it was that you did to me. Are you one of those... Jedi? This planet seems to be crawling with Inquisitors and Jedi. Leaves normal, scruffy nerf herders like me out of our depth."

"The Force is a powerful tool but I have seen scruffy nerf herders to incredible things."

"Well, you might have the opportunity to see this one try and eat your neighbors."

Djanik, still struggling with the strange influence she had exerted over his mind, couldn't bring himself to do the smart thing. To be wary. To leave.

Eventually he compromised and slumped back down into the chair.

"If you turn I will make it quick," she said calmly.

"If you hadn't addled my brains I'd have doubted you."

Djanik laughed, the good feeling clashing with his existential crisis. "I don't know who you really are - but I bet you could squash me like a bug."

Burying his face in his hands, he could feel frustration and helplessness warring in his own mind, all of it buried under a warm blanket of idle calm.

"Fine. I'll stay. Just... I was going to go to other hospitals, but they won't know, will they? It's just us. Sitting here."

A burst of emotion slipped out and he felt his body shake with it.

"I don't squash bugs," she said confidently.

"They will not be able to assist you any more than I have and most likely less."

"I thought as much."

Resting his face forehead against the cool tabletop, he just took slow breaths.

The day was catching up to him.

He was tired.

"Sleep, I can get you a pillow and a blanket," she offered.

He was already asleep, sitting here, head on his arm, slumped over the table.

She laid the blanket on him and put a pillow there in case he wanted it and then went and sat and read.
