[D5LA] Operation Anticyclone

A vast region of the northern half of the continent with trees approaching a kilometer in height with high plateaus creating islands in the sea of green forests. The forest floor lives in a strange twilight with a great deal of bioluminescence in the wildlife and ecology.

Guess it was not meant to be.

Qareme moved to ride with one of the others, hoping this Swoopwing treatment was limited to just one bird, not all of them.

Vaya gestured Verse behind her, smirking a little. "C'mon, kid. Promise to watch the backswing and you can ride with me." She patted her mounts' neck. "This is Sasaa, they're a sweetheart." The creature looked at Verse with one of their sideways-facing eyes, then craned its neck around to look at her with the other, and let out a medium-loud krieee!

Jenna had taken her time, approaching the beast slowly and letting her hand gently brush along it's neck. There was an episode, in one of those Warrior's Hearts vids, that she saw someone do something like this. It wasn't really her kinda show, but she'd caught it from the kitchen while Petrus was watching and the scene kinda stuck out to her. Then, following what she learned from watching Commander Poule, and then the Aznuri instruction, she felt confident in knowing what she was doing.

Once the beast accepted her, she would mount as a mixture perhaps of how she had been instructed by the Aznuri and witness Poule do it.

Comfortably on the beasts back she looked around at her compatriots, "Guess I'm getting a chance to ride one after all," she quipped, then softer to the creature, "Please, don't eat me."

The Liberation of the Chaldi!

Each player will make two rolls, their first post should have a non-combat skill check at Hard difficulty to aid the Hbanu in their liberation of their kin! This roll benefits from Vaya’s research giving them a boost die to counter Commander Poule and his tactics. Once all players have completed this step they may then make a Combat skill check at Hard, or a Resilience or Athletics check at the same difficulty to aid the battle.

Each success rolled is worth Liberation Point, Trumphs are worth 3 Liberation points, advantage and Threat are treated as normal event rules. Despair generates a Critical Injury for the hero!

There can be only one us of Valuable Facts during this event.

Results

If the team scores 6 or less Liberation points the Hbanu are defeated in their attempt, Sister Tiralia realizes they are after the Temple and will setup a tough combat at the Temple on Day 6. The Chaldi becomes pawns of the Empire!

At 7 to 9 Liberation points the Chaldi that seek freedom are freed and join the Hbanu but the Chaldi still become pawns of the Empire and there will be a combat at the Jedi Temple on Day 6 with Sister Tiralia and her allies!

At 10 to 12 Liberation Points the Chaldi are freed and Sister Tiralia escapes with Commander Poule, but the Chaldi are free and will aid the heroes.

At 13+ Liberation Points the Chaldi are freed and Sister Tiralia is captured although Poule escapes and she will be executed, this will cause 3 Conflict for all Force users.

I am using Destiny for every Player roll, so have fun. One roll per post please.

Vaya had found by-the-book Poule's book and crammed like it was for the most important exam she'd ever take. She'd shared everything she knew with everyone who would listen, in her expedition and among the Hbande. She hoped it would save some lives.

D5LA Valuable Liberation Facts (Education, PC flip): 2eP+2eA+2eD 3 successes, 2 advantage
ImageImageImageImageImageImage

Success! A triumph to be used at will (save until 1 success would be the difference between success and failure?), and everyone gets 2 advantages on the first set of rolls!

Use advantage to give a boost to someone with a die pool no better than 1y2g? Might make the most difference there.

And so the rescue begins! While there was panic and chaos around them, Qareme was calm and composed, guiding others as best she could. Her natural calmness seemed to reflect onto others, which in turn created some order in the Liberation.

Discipline! In the face of adversity and insurmountable odds! Discipline! To move as a unit and show no fear! Those were the kinds of words that Verse might've yelled, had she been on a stage, with patriotic music playing and the flag of the republic in the background.

Out here in the field though, that discipline she might otherwise just have spoken about, was in fact put into action! This laowai, despite not knowing how to fly a swoopwing, sure knew how to act under pressure.

"Oh he hears fine, but he lost his voice when young," the rider replied with a shrug. "Valia was a spirited creature, we say she speaks for him now."

Brother Ji got on behind her and the beast seemed elated... maybe?
"Okay. I'll pay attention in case either of you two have something to tell me, then." Sinn smiled back over her shoulder at Ji before sobering up and settling down into her harness.

As the flight of swoopwings set out, Sinnya and Valia were in sync, flying well at the head of the flock! Hopefully Brother Ji wasn't too unimpressed.

Swooping in somewhere unseen, Jenna made her way into the camp, using what skills she picked up as a thief to open doors and unlock passage ways that might otherwise would have been shut entirely. Sneaking around came as easy as the next thing, but it was the unlocking of doors and passageways, distracting, and other tricks of the thief trade that she utilized. Though her efforts didn't help any one person directly, she overall contributed to the success of getting some people out, at least...

Ru'ni was flying like he was born to the saddle, he swooped through the air dodging blaster fire and drawing the attention of the anti aircraft gun with his daring maneuvers. He harassed the enemy so much they even managed to blast some of their own troops and threw one whole flank of their defense into disarray.

Vaya, with Verse clinging behind her with intense discipline, half-managed the actually somewhat tricky task of using macrobinoculars from swoopwing-back. It required getting Sasaa to fly steady without having them stall out or dumping either of their passengers. She shouted what she saw to the rest of the group.

Troopers, seeing Vaya shouting things to the others, must have mistaken her for something of a commander and prepared a line to shoot her out of the sky. However...

All her might, every ounce, she used what strength she had and pushed the heavy wall that had been damaged in the fighting over. With it's supports severed she sent the whole thing toppling down onto the assembled squad. Pinning them underneath the weight of the wall.

"Better luck next time," she said, ducking down away from blaster fire as she retreated back to her Swoopwing.

Slashing his harness, after his swoopwing made a particularly low pass, Ru'ni leapt from the saddle and commando rolled along the ground coming up on one knee with his bow ready and an arrow nocked. Letting it loose without aiming his shot, he had faith that the arrow knows the way, it struck a trooper in the chest and exploded blowing open a hole in the Imperial ranks and encouraging a handful of loyal Chaldi to charge their captors.

Verse jumped off of Vaya's swoopwing, lightsaber flipping on as she swooped from the sky like a bat out of... no, let a swoopwing out of hell. As she fell, she let out her battlecry...

"Yaaaay!"

And swung her lightsaber at some troopers. Alas, she was having a little too much fun with the falling part and actually missed; but it created an opening for an ally to utilize as Verse ran along and before Vaya could barely even realize she'd been gone, Verse was back on the swoopwing.

On a low flying pass Brother Ji tapped her shoulder lightly as he adjusted on the swoop wing and then leapt drawing arrows in rapid succession, the first slammed into a storm trooper, the next into a rival Chaldi and the third blew open a door freeing the captive Chaldi people.

He hit the ground in a roll and was already unleashing more arrows at the storm troopers, one charged at him and he used an arrow like a dagger punching it through the helmet causing the rear of the headpiece to explode outward.

He got clipped by some blasts and dove for cover.

Mother Yugba kept at range her loyal life long companion she lovingly named Crotch Eater, Crotchy is the more casual name, gliding through the conflict as he unleashed accurate arrow after accurate arrow. She grimaced as time had slowed her skill but still she had patience. Even when Tiralia directed fire her way and clipped the warrior elder.

She gripped her injury and then forced it away as she fired another set of arrows causing the traitorous Aznuri to flee for cover.

Sinnya held on as Valia got itself stabilized following Ji’s vault into action. The swoopwing knew what to do just then better than she did, so there was nothing for her to do for a few moments besides keep her seat and watch the action.

Which was impressive.

“Wow,” she muttered to Valia. The creature’s harsh trill seemed like it might indicate agreement.

By the time their flight was stable again, Ji had gotten himself pinned down by blaster fire. Sinn leveled her rifle at the troopers and took a few shots from the air; she wasn’t sure if she’d hit anyone, but at least they were keeping their heads down now.

Crotch Eater gave a mighty Kriee as Mother Yugba lead her warriors for the final push! Her injury was painful but she managed to slowly stand on the back of her creature her foot secured as she had practiced all those times and then her backfoot hooked in. Commander Poule directed fire at the woman as the creature swooped low and then high as it went upside down and she was looking down at the cannon and unleashed three explosive arrows towards the cannon the first piercing an ammunition drum which caused an explosion the third slamming into the gunner and the final right into Poule’s shoulder as he dove for cover.

Crotch Eater twisted in air to avoid more fire but she was stable as she used her now free hand to hold onto the harness!

The Empire was routed as Poule limped into the shuttle buying as much time as he could for his people. He saw Tiralia and then saw the old woman land with her creature and they locked eyes and she drew again firing arrows… the first exploded inside the shuttle… he yelled for them to go as the shuttle quickly jetted into the sky leaving behind the traitor!

Mother Yugba nodded and then collapsed beside her stalwart friend.

OOC: Triumph used.

Seeing the battle turn their way, Ru'ni let out a loud ululating war cry of victory shaking his bow at the retreating shuttle before marching over towards Tirali.

"Tirali," Ru'ni intentionally addressed her without the honorific she no longer deserved. "You have betrayed the people of the Chaldi, the people of the Aznuri and the people of Bankor. You will pay for your crimes, and in the tradition of our people those you have wronged the most will pass judgment upon you." He stared down the sights of his bow as he kept an arrow nocked and pointed at her tiny blackened heart.

"Every civilization ends eventually Tirali. If this is the time of the Aznuri, then so shall it be, that doesn't mean we will accept it without a fight, but we have never been a people to live under the boot of another." He nudges her to start walking towards the growing crowd of Hbanu and Chaldi.

"If you have final words, I will act as your Oathbearer and take them to the elders. Your actions may have come from a place of concern for our people, but they were wrong. Perhaps they will see some sliver of light in your motivation and concern for our people and your death will not be in vain." He is speaking a little prematurely but it is obvious that this is not going to end well for Tirali.
