Survivor's Guilt or Something Similar [Day 7, Early Afternoon]

The interior of the region bordered by the Jaklu coasts, are rustic farms some fairly primitive and others quite modern but all have the frontier spirit of self reliance and labor.

Survivor's Guilt or Something Similar [Day 7, Early Afternoon]

Post by Jenna Karath » Thu Feb 13, 2020 1:07 am

Getting around wasn't as difficult for Jenna as it was for most in the newly minted resistance, she was a small cog in a much larger machine and she had the papers that said otherwise. Just another humdrum nobody with boring places to be, and these hills held one of those boring places. Coming here she knew she'd find something, someone, but she really wasn't sure what her goal was yet.

Was she just going to walk up to their door? Hello, I'm here to talk to you about that husband and father you lost so long ago? Do you even know he's dead, do you even know why? What was she trying to do here, she thought on it over and over again but it didn't give her pause.

Having rented out a speeder to come this far she'd parked her speeder some ways down the road and walked the rest, not wanting to disturb the relaxed nature of the surrounding area. With her hands buried in her jacket pockets she waled along the side of the pathway up toward the home.

It was a modest home and as she gets closer can see it has been deserted the door swings on the hinge not fully closed.

Stopping once she'd gotten close enough to notice she took in a deep breath and just existed in that moment. Looking to the surrounding hills, how beautiful the nature might yet still be but how the home itself was a deflates hollow reminder of what it once was. Something about that connected with her, and so she pressed on up the hill.

Coming up to the door she felt the solemn nature of the place, breathed it in and let herself soak in it before putting a hand on the door and shifting it open. Looking inside.

There was some old furniture but the place had been abandoned at least a few days maybe a week.

Stepping into the home more she'd snoop, as she'd always snooped, and walked through every room. Opened cabinets and drawers and pieces together the mystery, as small scale as it was in the grand scheme, of the house and it's inhabitants.

Maybe a part of her hoped to find something of meaning here, or an answer to one of her many questions, or maybe she wanted to figure out where they'd gone.

They must have left in a hurry but not under duress. No sign of where to but there does not look to be any violence involved at least.

That meant something, at least. Walking through toward the bedroom, she walked over to the side of the bed, assuming it was left in tact and leaned down to sit on it with her thoughts for a time. They probably had everything she dreamed about here, for a time, but some combination of Vandil and the Empire, she'd figured, probably brought the family to their knees and tore them apart. Just like her own idyllic dream she had once.

It was gone now though, that dream, but sitting here she came to realize it was never really possible. Not with how things are now, not with how things have been. Maybe though.. maybe she could do something about it, with the time she had and the people she knew. Maybe, just maybe.

There was nothing of any real value here besides the home.

After some time relaxing with her thoughts she took in a deep breath, exhaled, and then got up and left the home behind, just as it's true owners did some time ago. Wasn't much else for it, they'd moved on and she'd have to do the same, somehow.

Getting outside she'd take her time with the walk back, the farmland still had fresher air than most other places and it had a nice calming feeling about it that put her to peace for a time.
