Day 7 LM: Exit strategy

[Sacha Ordo]

She shrugged. "Whatever you want to do. It was an offer, not a demand of fealty."

"I'll help you while I'm here."

[Daunt]

He nodded. "And I'll return the favour when you're in need. But my commitment is to you personally, not to any of your people."

He reached for something. "Speaking of, are you good with affixing magnetic tethering to weapons? I'd need to calibrate this one."

[Sacha Ordo]

"Not everything is an attempt to extract something from you or a threat to your identity, Daunt."

"I'm good with anything with weapons," she replied, picking up a small tool. "Let me see it."

[Daunt]

"My identity is at the verge of extinction, Sacha, and I have seen Juri slipping away from it. And now I oppose one who controls what is left of it. Being extra careful in obligating self to others is kind of justified on my part, I think. Too much obligation because of who I allow close has also just torn me apart from my Sister. "

He passed her the tether and... bared his lightsabre.

"He has as much control as you give him," she replied as she took the lightsaber carefully, studying it. "I wish I could study this, but I doubt you'd appreciate me totally taking it apart. Let me see what I can do.". She brought it over to a makeshift workbench.

[Daunt]

It is not that simple, he thought but did not argue more. "At some point I might not be averse to that. This is my own, haphazard rework, and I did it purely on instinct, trial and error. It has emitter misaligned."

[Sacha Ordo]

After some study, she nodded, sighing. "It'll have to be reforged, so I guess I'll have a chance to study it after all. I'm not sure how long it will take. Can you wait a day or two, and do you have the materials for it?"

[Daunt]

"I have credits, and if I live in that day or two we can get back to this. But for now, please do something with the tether. With the laser turning slowly, I need to have it in hand without the usual hassle."

[Bowze Coppa]

Djanik tapped his chin.

Finally he came to a decision and flagged down the maintenance teams.

They looked at him incredulously.

But he was quite adamant.

Red paint.

Lots of red paint.

''Are those Z-95?'' he asked form behind

Djanik paused, lowering the airbrush, and glanced back.

Giving Bowze a little wave, he answered, cheerily, "Yep! A whole flight of them."

Waving the airbrush toward the squadron, he added, "I figured they could use a little color though."

[Bowze Coppa]

''Good idea'' he said nodding vigorously ''I thought the resistance would use a motley of various ships but I am glad to be wrong.''

He moved closer, putting a mask himself

''I did not see many of them during the war but they were fairly better in dogfights then the previous models. Can you tell me more about them?''

[Djanik]

Djanik shrugged. "Nimble enough - TIE fighters turn circles on it, but it has a better hull layout for taking hits, and unlike a TIE fighter, it fits a small shield generator and concussion missile launcher."

Tapping the side of the launch tube in the nose, he indicated that. "Main advantage is affordability - it's outdone by ships like the ARC-170, but it's immensely easier to purchase and maintain."

With a faint grin, he added, "I've flown better, but I've flown a lot worse."

"I have credits, and if I live in that day or two we can get back to this. But for now, please do something with the tether. With the laser turning slowly, I need to have it in hand without the usual hassle."

She nodded. "Sure." She got to work, but it wasn't as easy as she hoped, leaving her somewhat stressed and irritable.

Bowze listened with interest.

''Never underestimate durability...do they have hyperdrive?''

Daunt waited patiently, actually taking a cross-legged seat and closing his eyes for the duration of it. The emotional storm from his conversation with Juri was still raging within him, he was just hiding it relatively well.

[Djanik]

"No."

He shrugged.

"Keeps the price down."

[Bowze Coppa]

''Hmm...I see.'' he pondered ''Still an alpha strike is something to wish for an capitalise''

That last sentence seemed more to himself then to Djanik

Daunt waited patiently, actually taking a cross-legged seat and closing his eyes for the duration of it. The emotional storm from his conversation with Juri was still raging within him, he was just hiding it relatively well.

Soon she turned back to him, her hand resting gently on his shoulder as she held the lightsaber forward. "Here you go."

[Daunt]

He opened his eyes and took it, then tested the solution. It worked as hoped. He thus looked up at her and smiled.

"Thank you, Sacha. My chance of survival has just risen a bit."

[Djanik]

"Without a hyperdrive, they need to hitch a ride, but at least it keeps the operating costs down."

[Sacha Ordo]

He opened his eyes and took it, then tested the solution. It worked as hoped. He thus looked up at her and smiled.

"Thank you, Sacha. My chance of survival has just risen a bit."

She nodded. "Good. Can't have you going and dying on me." She nodded to the saber. "Bring that back in two days and we'll boost your chances a little more."

[Daunt]

He nodded and rose. "I should probably go before I make a move on you. This wouldn't be respectful of you in current circumstances even though I am boiling to have you again." He kept the veneer of civility to his expression, though his eyes were already devouring her form.

[Sacha Ordo]

"Soon," she assured.

[Bowze Coppa]

"Without a hyperdrive, they need to hitch a ride, but at least it keeps the operating costs down."

Bowze nods

''Need help painting?''

[Djanik]

Djanik nodded. "Sure. Get creative."

He gestured to the supply closet, where he'd found the mask and airbrush. The compressor chugged away happily, keeping the tank of air topped off.
