You're Not Gonna Believe [Day 8, EE]

[Jenna Karath]

She'd gone to Jurdak, first, it was important to her. More important than most things have felt in the short time since she'd realized her brother doesn't quite need her anymore, not like he used to, and she needed to make sure, she needed it, but this was after, this was the time to calm down and process everything.

First, first and foremost, this was when she finally had time to return to the Karath family dorm room and get herself a change of clothes. It was a good disguise, but an Imperial uniform two sizes too large was not the fashion statement she desired to make any longer.

Petrus was there already, sitting on the ground, cross-legged. His eyes were closed, although they flickered open as Jenna entered.

"Hello, sis..." He paused, his eyebrows going up. "So, uh... how was your day? Pretty exiting, I'm guessing?" He nodded towards her clothing, an amused smile on his lips.

Standing in the door way she looked down to her brother, down to the uniform again, and then back to him, "More than you could ever guess," she said, closing the door behind her and moving in toward where she kept her clothes. Shifting through them for something else, anything else, to wear.

"I- I don't even know where to begin.." she said, distracted by a shirt and lifting it up and out to check if it fit what she was going for, "h-how was yours?" she asked, somewhat distracted as she was.

Petrus considered that for rather a long time. "Eventful." He finally said. "Very eventful. But it has all turned out for the best." He smiled, just a little. "And call me optimistic, but I think it'll continue to do so."

He looked at her. "You wanna tell me about it? You okay? You seem a little shaken up." His brows drew down in brotherly concern.

"I'm.." she stopped, put the shirt down that she was examining and pushed her hand up through her hair just at her forehead, "I'm alright," she exhaled a bit, calming her pace, "I just, I had a real crazy day Petrus, a real crazy day. I'm.. I'm alright though, better than alright, I think?"

A pause, a break, "Your trial.. it went, it went well then?" she said, looking down at the shirt and deciding she didn't have the attention span for this now. Walking over toward her bed she sat down at the end of it, "I'm glad you're so hopeful," she said with a smirk, "I've.. wow, I really don't know where to start," she laughed at herself, "I.. the Imperials made a move today, I'm still not sure where but I went to take advantage of it, and I did.. sort of," she said.

"It did." Petrus frowned as she moved along. "Ummm... I heard about an Imperial attack. Although not all of the details. I wanted to go to the thing for Neela, but I didn't get back in time..." He sighed.

"So... what happened? What did you do?" Petrus said, spreading his hands. "And go on, you can change. It's okay. We do live together, after all." Shifting, he turned around, giving her some privacy.

For a moment she just looked at him, "That's not why I.." she shook her head, "never-mind, stay like you are I'll only be a second," she quickly brought open the belt and slipped out of the uniform. Jenna's underwear choice wasn't necessarily all that revealing, or even sensual, thus it didn't really leave her much worry about that aspect either. She'd walked around in it, on occasion, as it was, not a very bashful family.

"I went to the Imperial sector, broke into one of the buildings there," she said, shifting through some of the shirts and selecting a nice light blue one to wear as an undershirt, slipping that on first she kept sifting through the options she'd afforded herself, "My plan was to find myself something that could help the resistance, help you stay out of trouble.." she stopped, sighed, "help all of us stay out of trouble."

Petrus still did turn around; it seemed polite, even if they'd both wandered around in their underwear from time to time in the past.

"You did?" Petrus did half-turn at that, frowning. "So I'm guessing that it went well? Exciting and well?" He gave her a bit of a smile, still too fatigued to do more.

"I got caught," she said, pulling some dark grey cargo-pants out of the closet and slipping into those next, "by Commander Poule, if I haven't told you about him before we're.. acquainted, now, met him when I helped Vaya with the Aznuri. Ran into him, from him, on that job in the museum. Shared an elevator with him today he.. well, I don't think I had much of a chance with him not recognizing me after I tanked his career like that."

Next she found a jacket to cover the undershirt, it was light and a light dark-gray color and came up to snugly fit around her neck, squarish shoulders, "Anyway he, he let me go.." she drifted for a second, thinking about the whole ordeal, it made her smile a bit and she'd stopped fighting herself on it so much, "he's a good man. Today, I met an Imperial I consider a good man and I just.. I hope that whatever happens next doesn't affect him. He's got people who rely on him to stay alive and," she bit her lip, "I just can't stomach the idea of anyone I know harming him.. I.." she drifted, it sounded crazy.

[Petrus Karath]

Petrus frowned. "Maybe in passing. I don't remember specifically hearing about him."

He continued to listen, one eyebrow creeping up. "I... see?" He didn't quite see. Petrus frowned. "So... it sounds like he's a friend, maybe? Do you think we could bring him in, here? We could protect... whoever it is he protects. Sorry." Petrus shrugged. "I don't quite understand. But it makes sense that there'd be some good people who maybe just haven't had the chance to leave yet. Like Commander Serasai."

"It's his father in the core he," she shakes her head, "we're not going to get him to sally up with the Rebellion. His father, his father needs that medical access in the core and his service ensures his family is taken care of. We're not going to get him to come against the Empire, I wouldn't, if it meant you were back on some other world and sick," she said.

"I'm sorry I.. I don't know if I'm making a whole lotta sense," she hangs her head and shakes it. Zipping up the collar, "Done," she says, plopping back down and sitting on the bed casually. "I just feel pressed.. like, I need something and I don't know how to get it? I.. I want him to be safe, if we're on the right side of this we should be able to make sure that people like him, like Commander Serasai, are able to be kept safe. Whatever the path forward is.."

Petrus shuffled, turning, remaining cross-legged on the ground. He sighed, frowning. "Yikes. That's rough." He grimaced. "It's a good reminder that not everything is black and white, or even close." His lips twisted wryly. "I think this is sometimes why Jedi just... didn't do anything. Sometimes the right thing to do is just impossible to see."

He tapped his lips thoughtfully with one finger. "What kind of person is he? Tell me a bit more about his character, maybe?"

"I think the notion that he had me, at blaster point in an elevator with every reason to hate me but still listened to me, listened to reason, gives you a good baseline but he seems honorable, a good man just trying to protect people and is being misused by the Empire," she said, thinking about him a bit more and it made her cheeks turn to a color with a slight brush of pink.

"I understand him, a bit, I think. He understood me, when I got him to believe me.. it wasn't, it wasn't that hard.. actually, considering what I've done to him, what I've done to his career by constantly showing up and ruining things for him. He's also a good son, shown in his sacrifice he makes for his parents every day, his attention and focus on the job are.. admirable, too.."

Petrus blinked, his lips parting as Jenna went on. He'd always been pretty good at noticing things, especially with his sister. "Jenna... are you blushing?" His lips quirked and his eyebrows went up. "If I didn't know better, I'd say you had a crush on this guy. Well well."

But then his expression turned more serious. "Jenna... if you told him that there was gonna be a huge attack, it doesn't sound like he'd stay home that day or anything. It sounds like he'd report it. Does that sound right?"

The first comment turned the light pink, to a blistering red of embarrassment, but then the sudden shift paralyzed her for a second, "I-I.." she shook her head, "no, he's not the kind who would just stay home. There are men under him, people who rely on him for leadership, that'd.. asking him to just leave them behind would be.. he wouldn't," she said.

"But," she came back mere seconds later, "but if he was given a chance to get his men out of there, to stand down? I think.. I think we might have a chance. A chance to not only stop a fight, and save a good man, but to save all of the men and women under him too. Maybe.. just maybe," she said, uncertain, hopeful.

Petrus nodded. "That would be... great. I mean, really great. I mean, if we could get the Empire to stop killing people without hurting anyone, that's the way I'd rather do it. I wish it was more possible..."

He sighed, then spread his hands. "If we can save even one person, it's worth it. And if we could save more..." He nodded slowly. "Well, I hope we can give as many the chance as possible."

Petrus grinned. "Especially if I get to meet the guy my sister has a crush on."

Jenna nodded, followed along, at least she could expect.. trust, that Petrus would understand at least, "Right!? There just has to be another way, always, we can't not look for that other-" she paused, for a while, realizing how he ended it, and with a groan threw herself backwards down onto her bed and looked up at the ceiling.

"My life is impossible," she said, defeated.

Petrus laughed, openly and honestly. "Oh, Jenna. I'm so glad you're my sister." He scooted along the floor, until he was close enough to reach out and grab her knee, giving it a shake.

He laughed again. "And not just because you're funny, and I like teasing you. But also 'cause you want to do the right thing. So, yeah. Seriously."

Luckily for Petrus, even if she was forgetful, she'd not seen the need to put footwear back on and only had on some basic socks. Which mean when she kicked at him, gently, it wasn't even possible a hard kick if she hit, though she didn't have a good sense of where he was all that much either.

"I didn't," she said, chuckled, "for a long time I didn't always do the right thing but.. I'm trying to, now, more than I have ever in the past. I think.. I think that the old me, before I found you again, I would have focused on getting to that button, running away, because I wouldn't have trusted in the good nature of people. Not for a second," she sighed, rolling her head to the side on the bed. Closing her eyes for a moment, "learned it from you and your damn... how you just run in, to help people, like there wasn't another option," she smirked, "you're really something, big bro," she said the last in a teasing tone.

Petrus just laughed as her socked foot bumped his shoulder. Even if it had hit one of his burns, which it hadn't, it probably wouldn't have hurt.

He chuckled again, shaking his head. "Thanks. I mean it. Really, thanks." He sat back with a sigh. "I think that's one of the things where being a Jedi and being a big brother sorta overlap. We're both supposed to be good examples." He made a face. "Even if we don't always manage it."

"You do, though," she said, pausing a moment to push at him with her foot again.

"Thanks, though.. after today, after everything that's happened.. it's nice to come home, well, as much of a home as this is, and.. I don't know.. pretend to be normal for a few minutes at least. Pretend that I'm not.. pretend that he's not an Imperial, and I'm not.. whatever I am, a thief? A rebel? A spy? I'm not.. I'm really not sure anymore," she sighed, propped herself up on her bed.

Again Petrus laughed, his hands coming up to grab her foot and give it a shake, but he didn't take the horseplay any father than that. "Well, I try. Now, anyway."

"Hmmm." Petrus sat back into a more relaxed posture. "Well, you're my sister. That's something, right?" He shot her a quick grin. "But... I don't know. Maybe you don't have to pick a single label. You're a lot of things. A lot of past coming together, and that matters as much as you want it to. And then what you choose to make of that, going forward."

"I wanna be a farmers wife-" she kicked at him preemptively, falling back against her bed and looking up at the ceiling, "shut up, don't you say it, I'm serious, "she said, laughing.

"With a storied history that I hint at about with the neighbors, they'll look over at our, mine and my farmer husband that is, and wonder what kind of wondrous life I used to lead. Why wouldn't they, after all? My brother, who visits often with his beautiful wife are both Jedi. A few family friends are a Mandalorian, and a witch. Closer than the rest? A galaxy renowned mind and scholar. "

Petrus looked a little daunted at the image Jenna presented, but then he smiled. "You can have us all over to watch Warrior's Heart. That sounds great. Add a superspy in there... probably a few others." He tilted his head. "I didn't know you were that close with Juri. That's great. She's a really great person."

He spread his hands. "If that's the future you want, Jenna... well, I really hope you can have it."

"I hope you can have it too," she says, leaning back up again. "At least, the part of it that's meant for you. You're my brother, after all, gotta make sure you're staying out of trouble with... Weekly visits," she joked with the seriousness of how she said it.
