Huddle up (LE, D8)
Huddle up (LE, D8)
Djanik, face marred by a couple bandages, had called a squad meeting.
Apparently he was no longer their leader, but he had to tell all of them that.
Sitting on a metal folding chair, he sipped a mug of kaff, expression carefully bland.
His respect for authority was being severely tested, but he would be a professional, damn it, even if he felt Yusandre would best serve the Resistance by falling into the nearest ditch.
Now he would wait for his squad, so he could give them the news.

Re: Huddle up (LE, D8)
The crew ere assembled many looking grim, word had traveled fast and Viks was there another solid pilot, not ex-Academy he served in a mercenary outfit before he came to Bankor for a simpler life but now he was back in it. Djanik knew he was reliable though probably not as much a leader as he was experienced and knew the operation.
He wouldn’t be going in blind… well as blind as he could be. Viks added, “Hey boss-man, the team knows the score but I am glad you wanted to voice it in your own words.”

Djanik just nodded.
"As I'm sure you've heard, the lady in charge has decided that I'm not entirely to be trusted."
Setting his mug down, he glanced around the squad. "Regardless, there's a mission coming. I've done my best to get you ready, but I'm going to be honest. It's going to be rough out there."
Standing, he tapped the side nose of the lead plane, and said, "You've learned a lot these last few weeks. Stick to your training, trust each other, and you'll get through it together."
He felt... a tear.
Damn.
Blinking it away, he looked up at the fighter, trying to compose himself.
"Maker help me, I wish I could go with you. Don't die, pups. Come back from this battle as wolves. We've got so far to go, yet."

“We’ll make you proud, boss-man, not sure what went down but it’s a shame. Everyone knows what needs doing and more importantly when they heard we chipped in and got you a little something.”
He reached into his bag and pulled out a pilot’s helmet with all of their signatures and the design of the squadron on it. “You’re still our lead in spirit, boss-man, and we would not be where we are without yah.”
OOC: Helmet grants a boost die to Piloting Space checks, because it’s cool.

Djanik took it and stared at it silently, trying desperately to hold back tears.
After an awkward silence, he finally managed, very quietly.
"If a private patrol boat happened into the area... would you mind if it joined you?"

"Boss-man as far as I am concerned if you're ship wants to join us, I wouldn't be surprised one bit, sister might get pissed but hey you're a good lead," he said honestly.

Djanik laughed, a choked sort of laugh.
"Good man Vik. You're still flight lead, but I can at least cover your six."
Holding the helmet under one arm, he saluted the man. "Flight Captain Djanik, relinquishing command."

"Of course boss-man, but your girl will be fueled up if she needs to fly," he offered patting Djanik's fighter.

A faint laugh, cracking his old school military fascade.
"Damnit Vik, you're supposed to assume command."
Shaking his head, he added, "This old war dog can't help his habits. I'll take Wolf-13, and I'll be there."
Smiling weakly, he added, "I couldn't be more proud of the lot of you. I prepped the mission briefing for the morning - it's on your datapads - feel free to make any changes you need, Vik. For tonight, I can only say I plan to get a stiff drink, listen to loud music, and then get a little sleep. I hope you all do the same." It was time for the second half of the military tradition. Work, and now play. Distract yourself from what is coming...
Putting on the helmet dramatically, he said, in a voice dripping with false seriousness"For tomorrow, we ride."

The team salutes and cheers Djanik!
"Tomorrow we ride!"
Maxxy added in, "But we are going to pilot right? So tomorrow we pilot? Right?"

"Yes Maxxy. We Pilot."
Finishing his kaff in a single go, he put an arm over her shoulder, and led her, and the squad, to the bistro.
