[Day 1 - MA] The Secret to Good Soup

[Xanna Teevou]

There were a few blaster marks outside the building, but Xanna had wisely taken down the banner, so the place just looked like every other run-down building. If Captain Hrugos had been looking for the Soup Kitchen, he had not found it. She opened up and went inside to fetch the banner, tool kit at the ready. Up it went:

#1 Friendly Soup Kitchen

Clean, clear, and simple if stylized characters. The elderly Besalisk she had sort-of-inherited it from had named it, and she didn't feel the need to change. Allowing herself a small grin she went inside to start getting things ready.

(OOC: Expecting but totally open!)

[Dapper Dog]

“So where is our junior dishwasher,” Liua asked as she helped get things ready. She didn't like to admit it but she liked helping around the soup kitchen so she masked that with her usual deadpan disgust and ennui.

“Also uh, thanks for letting me crash at your place, it was… not terrible.”

[Xanna Teevou]

"Now that is an excellent question! Perhaps we should advertise for a new one in the window? And you are very welcome Liua, it was nice to have company for a change. I am glad that you tried some Pantorian Yoja routines with me. I think you are a natural, but do not worry, I will not tell a soul!"

Since the place had not been trashed by Imps she was able to put her tools away and started cleaning down the kitchen surfaces. Once that was done she pulled out the haul of vegetables and nerf steak that they had brought back from Rygor.

"If you want to stay, or 'crash', again that would be okay."

[Dapper Dog]

“I… I don’t get why you are so nice to people,” she said honestly as she cleaned a table and then moved to another.

“Most people are selfish nerf herders.”

[Xanna Teevou]

Pulling out her favourite knife she was about to start chopping up some of the vegetables. "Oh, I am being silly. These are so fresh they will need to be properly washed."

She took them over to the sink and started on the first batch. The water was delightfully cold, a relief from the often oppressive heat.

"Most people become selfish nerf herders because they have been treated like selfish nerf herders all their lives Liua. It is not the natural state of beings, to be this way. It is learned through injustices. When we show others that kindness is possible, even if they do not reciprocate, we allow the idea of kindness and justice to be released into the world."

''Hum, hello?''

The uncertain greeting came from a tall, robed nemoidian standing by the door. He looked around nervously checking a note several times.

''Is this miss Xanna's soup kitchen?''

[Xanna Teevou]

Turning to look over her shoulder she nodded at the newcomer. It had been a while since she had last seen a Nemoidian. "Hello there, and good afternoon." Her hands flicked off some of the water as she turned down the tap.

"Welcome to the the Number 1 Friendly Soup Kitchen. Yes, I am Xanna and this is Liua. Apologies but we are not quite open yet. After all that business yesterday it is a slower start to the day."

[Bowze Coppa]

''Oh...''

He entered the establishment while keeping his head low

''...I am here to work, actually. Miss V, from the salty nerf, recommended this place''

[Xanna Teevou]

"Miss V? Vuxia? Oh how lovely, well do come on in." She waved him in, water droplets going everywhere.

"Liua and I were just talking about how you simply cannot find the staff these days." She winked at the younger woman. "So. What is your name? We can always use some extra help around here."

Turning back to the sink she continued with scrubbing soil off the vegetables.

[Bowze Coppa]

''Vuxia...yes, yes'' the nemoidian confirmed with a series of spastic nods, wary of the water going everywhere.

Soup kitchens are so...sush, you are here to help

''Oh, hum, hello miss Liua.'' he said before turning to the owner of the establishment ''I am called Bowze Coppa...what would you need help for?''

"I am pleased to meet you Bowze. We can always use help with cleaning, chopping, serving, washing. Even cooking if you have experience?" Aside from a few spots of water it all looked surprisingly clean in here. At one point it might even have been a fancy restaurant, although judging by the state of the Slums that meant it was well over... well, old!

[Dapper Dog]

"You can clean the refresher," Liua quipped.

[Bowze Coppa]

''It is a pleasue to meet you as well'' he said with a light bow ''I have no cooking experience, nor any experience in the service industry, I am afraid''

He rubbed his hands, a bit nervous

''But I am willing to start anywhere''

[Xanna Teevou]

Xanna threw a look at Liua. "That is fine Bowse, we all must start somewhere, is that not right Liua? In fact, why don't you help Liua get everything set up?"

Teenagers... Oh. Well she did not feel like she had ever personally really been one so the point stood.

"It is important to clean and wipe down the tables and check to see if anything needs repair." She continued to wash and then once they were clean she started to chop.

"I am thinking today we will serve locally-sourced Nerf stew."

[Dapper Dog]

A small smile crept on her face, "Sure, so basically I'm your boss, I kind of do everything around here. But usually we have to make sure all the tables are setup and you know basic stuff, and then after that we fix them food which Xanna makes and then we clean up the tables and also watch for any sleemos, easy."

"We had a dishwasher but I fired him, for being a sleemo."

''Err...I see'' he rubbed his hands while moving to where the teen was

''Excuse me but it would seem that it is Lady Xanna who has operationnal authority here...not wanting to be disrespectful...of course...'' a frown appeared ''What is a sleemo?''

[Dapper Dog]

"Operational what's it? Look She's the boss, I am the assistant boss and you are the junior grade newbie. Listen to me and you might get promoted," she said firmly.

"Well I can say if you keep using big words and not listening to me, that's a sleemo."

Xanna had started chopping and spoke without turning around. "Yes Liua is my Assistant, she is still in her probationary period but please follow her lead Bowse. She can show you what needs to be done." And hopefully learn plenty in the process.

"Now, where did I put that Besalik 12-spice?" She started looking through cupboards.

[Bowze Coppa]

''Mhm'' he did not look convinced ''I suspect sleemo is one of the imprecise terms used by the youths'' he shook his head at least once before Xanna spoke up

Another vagabond-like figure walked into the soup kitchen right around lunch. He made his way towards the line and started asking if a woman named ‘Xanna’ was around.

"Whoa we are not open yet," a young woman said. "New guy, handle this sleemo."

''Is he a sleemo though?'' Bowze asked but still moving to meet the newcomer

''Hello, can I be of assistance?''

Meanwhile Xanna was lightly singing something in her native tongue as she got assorted pots and pans ready. She tied her hair back with a few bands, picked an apron from the clean cupboard, and washed her hands again. Part of her attention was on Liua and Bowse and the other newcomer. It was perhaps a test of sorts and she was curious to see the results of these interactions.

As the strands of destiny wove together she began to make stew. Her voice was quite melodious, although it was a tune that would be unfamiliar to most.

With a casual confidence Jenna came in either behind Rannek, or just on her own, and looked around for Xanna. Jenna herself wasn't new around here, at least, and she too lived in the slums so she'd stopped by once or twice to check in on things. See if there was any helping she might be able to do. Trying to live down her past, she supposed.

Still, there was a bit of confusion so she stayed in the doorway a second and checked her boot real quick. Glancing casually behind herself as well in the process.

“Yeah, sorry for bustin’ in. I’m looking for someone and I heard that there’s a lady named Xanna that hangs around here that might know where to look...”
