Was Astin always supposed to be such a perv when you created him or did that come to life in game?

I tend to have a very rough feel for characters before I play them. Astin was a racer, that had been traveling the galaxy for a half dozen years. He was a bit jaded, used to cover up his country accent and a few other bits and pieces.

His tendency to flirt, talk too much, and nap or pretend to be doing so were mostly made up in play. Mainly I just aim for what feels right for the character and go from there. It can end up with some unexpected outcomes, but thems the breaks.

Astin was fun to read, but maybe had a rought start of getting into things? But it was good to have him along too for some... hmmm... shall we say bitter jaded soul, who was still going to do the right thing (join the Resistance)? It made him a bit of a foil to some of the rest who were more idealistic and hopeful compared to him, which also gives interesting dynamic in scenes.

And then Dove also had someone she could be harsh and cynical with! xD

Is there anything you would've done differently now in hindsight with Astin, to make the experience more fun or rewarding for you? What did you end up being the most satisfied with during the game?

He did have a rough start getting into things, and usually if your aren't involved in the first four days or so it generally stays that way. A lot of that was my fault of course, he was mostly on the fringe of the resistance. I personally have almost zero interest in the force, jedi, or with (likely my least favorite part of star wars), and why he had a few criminal tendencies he was a criminal of necessity not opportunity.

I likely should of done a bit more with Weggs, but Astin was very much not interested in a relationship, and she seemed very much interested in one so that put some distance between the two.

Things I would change, I would likely do a different build, I like 3 3's but he was mainly a pilot and having three dice instead of four felt like he was playing second fiddle to anyone with a 4 agility, not just those with piloting either. I would of probably also rolled a different starting fraction thing. I had problems connecting to the resistance plotline and thought long and hard about rerolling into criminal. I ended up sticking with Astin though.

As for my satisfaction m, even though he likely wasnt the most popular person. I liked how Astin developed as a character, not that he nessacarily changed much. I did get to see a lot of who he was though.

I really enjoyed Floats' talks with Mr Astin, he seemed like a character who would actually exist in-universe.


Do you think he's the kind of guy who would stick the resistance long time, or just until Bankor is freed and/or destroyed utterly? How did Astin view Jedi at the start of the game compared to Day 9 and how did different events change his opinion?

It really depends on the outcomes on things. Astin wants to make a difference but he's not much on taking study risks that endanger all kinds of people. If bankor is destroyed, he won't stay. If it enjoys a measure of freedom he likely will. In his mind there is no point winning the war if it gets millions to billions of civilians killed in the process after all.

Astin was pretty indifferent about the jedi at first, he had a idea of who they were, and what the empire said about them, but he had never really met any.

It pretty much just went down hill from there, he disagreed with the opinion that they needed hope more then anything. Sure it was something they needed but it wasn't only it. This bad opinion only increased as he got to know Floats, hearing about incestuous force babies and seeing how unprepared for the world she seemed. Well it left a bit of a bad taste in his mouth to hiw the order raised their students. It didn't help that all of em seemed to be experts with laser swords.

The final straw for him was his they dealt with Neela, he would never deny they did a good thing. He also felt very strongly that it was wrong. The two are not the same in his book, and how Neela and Quarme acted in the day eight thread sealed the deal. He is basically of the opinion that as a order the jedi are no good, in ways just as bad as the imps.
