A Girl and Her Family [Jenna Q&A]
First, a word of thanks. Thank you to everyone I had a scene with, conspired with, and worked with this game. Thanks in no small part to your efforts this has been one of the most enjoyable rides I've had in these games in a long time. Without your joined efforts of interacting with, including, and playing off my character none of this would have been possible.
Chiefly, I must openly thank Petrus' player, because his character and our characters connection as brother and sister was not only the most enjoyable character connection I've had but it was also the most ambitious. Without the connections this afforded me, Jenna wouldn't have been possible.
It's risky, as we've come to understand, to have a character so reliant on a character of another player but I found myself with a perfect RP partner for it and I will cherish the memory of these characters, and all the characters mine has connected to, for a long time.
There was a lot to Jenna, a lot of complicated bits and parts that made her whole, and I loved every seconds of it. I'm glad, more often than not, to see that other people enjoyed her character and her story as well. I hadn't totally, but the thread was there, expected how much "fear" was going to play into as a drive for the character, it was a very interesting and fun development.
Of course though, I'd love to hear what you guys would like to hear about. Even if we're not totally finished yet at this point, so... questions?

The Karath family was a great connection! It filled in some other angles for Petrus, gave me something else to play off of, and provided a lot of great scenes.
Thanks!

I am very happy you enjoyed Jennah. I'm glad you seemed to be enjoying yourself and find good ways of interacting with many players. Jennah was also an enjoyable character to read, and to watch her grow. From street rat to spy-in-training! Will be interesting to see where she goes in the future.
Where there points in the game where you felt you should have done things differently with the character, or did you feel like it worked from start to (nearly, since we're not there yet) finish? Is Jennah gonna try to find Stephe Poule and bring him over to the right side, or find some way to help his family? Will she be free of her debt after all this?

Re: A Girl and Her Family [Jenna Q&A]
Jenna is actually one of my few characters that I don't believe I have any regrets. I started her off with a pretty open field, without any real lofty goals outside of: "Protect her brother, and settle down into a nice easy life." With, of course, all the complications in her life.
Closest I can think of though, there was a moment, close to it, that I was wavering on if Jenna going to Tididol was the right move for the character. I wasn't certain if all of the evidence was there to push her properly in that direction of if I was fabricating some of it for myself because that's what I wanted to happen. I think, had I not committed to her going to Tididol, I would have regretted it.
Next for that came the time when she had given into fear, which she was dealing with a loss in a kind of way, where she was actually in a pretty low place for the rest of that in-game Day. Was worried a little there too, that I might have overdone it. However, the Interim and break time offered me a chance to show that she took time to herself and came out of that slump out of a lot of self-analyzing. Figured herself out and set her back on a path, or even further onto a path, of someone who might even be able to do something heroic.
Stephe Poule was such a fun occurance, from just myself personally falling in love with the voice I heard it was fun to toy with it until it actually started to make a lot of sense. After the elevator scene I think she had the idea that she cared for him, and then everyone she talked to about it afterwards caused her to become convinced more and more that she did. Somehow, in someway, he's making it onto her list of: "What does Jenna do after this?" in that she'll do her best, link up with him again, and see if she can't figure out a way to "save him" in a sense. For lack of a better term.
Debt Free, who knows! Crossing a Crime-boss has it's disadvantages for sure! However, with some backing, she's ready to face that and is going to try her hardest. Maybe someday, hopefully someday.

Did you have any particular favorite moments with Jenna, and/or ones you felt were very iconic for her as a character?

I know we didn't get real interactions until the late game, but I really really enjoyed those.

Much of the first Heist, I was really digging the vibe and it was real fun, this particular moment was a blast to write and I am and was very glad to get the chance at it:
viewtopic.php?f=30&t=374&start=25#p7116
Poule Moments:
Elevator Scene Start off, I liked the thought in my mind of the "Broken Mask" scenario, that she sorta tried real hard to stay in character but it just fell apart:
viewtopic.php?f=27&t=801#p19816
The Please here was nice, I like the vibe with it, and it finished off the scene very nicely, could honestly end the arc right there and I'd have been content:
viewtopic.php?f=27&t=801&start=25#p20344
Scene with Petrus:
This scene, moment, is really nice looking back, it was nice back then too, but I like how it juxtaposes where she started to where she ended:
viewtopic.php?f=33&t=330&p=5931#p5780
Breakdown after the Inquisitor:
viewtopic.php?f=33&t=590#p12740
This was a cool scene with the new "Family" they made, also served as a really good transition into a new stage of the game:
viewtopic.php?f=27&t=614
This one was the one after the day came to a close, when Vandil had caught her and made the threat and Jenna was in a dark mindset. Most important, I think, for this scene was the fun bit where there was a development of their family history some:
viewtopic.php?f=74&t=664#p16221
This is the one where she bounced back from the whole Vandil threatening her life thing, feeling it was over, and resolved herself to figure it out:
viewtopic.php?f=74&t=752
And, I think that's enough. Certainly could dig up more, but, I think these all serve as some really great touch-points.
Our scene was great! It was a nice thing, I think, for them to both be able to be there for one another at that time. Was a very pleasant scene to write!Juri Saizesh wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2020 5:54 amI know we didn't get real interactions until the late game, but I really really enjoyed those.

Re: A Girl and Her Family [Jenna Q&A]
Defining moment from the past shows up a bit in this scene:
viewtopic.php?f=27&t=547#p13138
Essentially, however, it could be boiled down to when Petrus was taken in by the Jedi. That event left her at home with their awful parents and she wasn't going to stay there alone. That's what caused her to run away, learn to steal, and then become so good at it she made a little career out of it. Being pretty young, at 20, she's already had a lot of professional experience in the world because of that early start. Honestly why she sounded older most of the time.
Highlight of the game, see the above post with all the links. I don't think I could select any one, because they're all really amazing.
Moment of Despair: When Vandil answered the call instead of Tididol. For Jenna, that was the moment when everything she'd been trying so hard to barely keep together under the threat of the Empire shattered entirely. It was a real low-point for Jenna and the Interim that followed was a nice timing to give her some time to recover.
Most un-Karath-ish in character thought?
Karath's are worriers, the moment or two where she decided she'd trust her brother to make it out alright instead of worrying about him. That was probably the closest to being the most "un-Karath-ish" as she could have been.

Jenna was a big part of Vaya's Bankor, obviously, so thank you for that!
From a sometimes-GM perspective, I'm curious how you worked out your stuff with Vandil and Tidiol, particularly around the fatal call. How much was worked out before/during/mid-game, what was an agreed-upon part vs where did Dapper surprise you, that sort of thing?

Re: A Girl and Her Family [Jenna Q&A]
It was a pleasure playing with you too! Vaya brought Jenna on the fateful mission after all xD, but beside that, they always were in the thick of it together and our scenes were always wonderful!
Fun enough, it was just the Debt. I had the idea that I wanted a Debt to a Crime Lord as part of Jenna's backstory. It made sense. Then, knowing I wanted Jenna to be a thief and saw that Vandil was signing people on for jobs it made sense to connect her to Vandil as a "do this for me, and your debt is paid" scenario. I flew the idea by Dapper and that's the start.
After that.. it was actually all just how the dice fell! Jenna actually went to Tididol earlier in the day but she was drugged up so Jenna convinced her to make a call later. Never getting the private meeting she wanted Jenna knew, maybe, that Vandil heard but she hoped it would work out.
Of course it didn't, and when I saw the Destiny I "knew" but didn't know.
So, I actually had Jenna visit that first time with just making the thread and I went to let Dapper know. Which, props to Dapper because he got to it before I could let him know xD. It was a spontaneous thing the character would do I felt it made most sense to not have any pre-warning just: "she's trying this, what happens?"
Beyond that, only things confirmed OOC were the when's and where's for what could work. Like: "Can I make the call in this slot in space?" Etc.etc.

I was really appreciative of your effusiveness when I checked in on that. Calmed my worries right down!
Jurdak was a really nice character to have to push back against Jenna. In a way, she needed the three-fold focus' of everyone to get her to where she got. Figured it all added very nice touches, so thanks

Thanks for the few threads we had together.
Just curious where the Jax thing is from and the history about that. I feel like Venator stepped on a landmine.

Stepped on a landmine?
Jax was the pseudonym she used when she was younger/more actively a thief. As a thief she went with the old idea of hiding "who you really are." I used Jax often when writing about her/her thoughts when she was acting more like the "Jax" she used to be. So, crime stuff.
However, the more her stories blended the more people that knew her real name.
Jenna will probably still use Jax with people she doesn't want knowing her real name.
