[Day 9 - LN] Party like there is no Tomorrow

A soft chuckle escaped his lips, and he glanced at her with a wry smile. "Look at you, comforting an old man."

Gently pushing her shoulder, he added, "I know I wasn't alone - we won today because the entire squadron flew together. Even the best pilots can't do it alone. Nora never... never really figured that out. She was gunning for me - not covering her pilots. She thought she could save them all alone."

A slow sigh. "Nobody is that good."

He refused to let himself lose it again, so he just added, "You're a good ki.... no. A good woman, Veras. I guess you really are not a kid any longer." In some strange way, that made him sad.

[Petrus Karath]

"I felt him guiding me, all of us, I want to think a little piece of him helped us in our darkest moments. He was that kind of selfless," she admitted.

"Yeah." Petrus nodded. "I felt it too. I think we probably all did. And... yeah, that's how he was was. I guess the best we can do is follow his example, huh?"

He gave her a gentle smile. "I think you'll do well at that, Liua. The Force is strong with you."

The pleasant thought calmed her down, and she began to doze off in her chair. It had been a very, very long day for Agent Gray.

"You gave a lot and then some more today," she said, sitting down in the chair next to Dove, looking at her with a soft smile. Shifting off something she was carrying onto the table, it didn't matter right now. Crossing one leg over the other, a arm on the table, she glanced around quick before looking back to Dove, "Taking a bit of a break, figure.. I can keep you some company, keep you from drifting off, or.. let you drift off and bat away anyone that comes to disturb you."

[Dapper Dog]

"Yeah." Petrus nodded. "I felt it too. I think we probably all did. And... yeah, that's how he was was. I guess the best we can do is follow his example, huh?"

He gave her a gentle smile. "I think you'll do well at that, Liua. The Force is strong with you."

She got reflective at that and said, "I think I just have a larger view of the Force now."

Veras smirked and said, “Yeah I am not sure I was ever a kid, Captain. It’s been a long road, but I am glad you have been there to help us, just promise you’ll take care of yourself wherever you go off to next,okay?”

“Don’t forget about us small time Bankor folks.”

She got reflective at that and said, "I think I just have a larger view of the Force now."

Petrus tilted his head, regarding her. "Oh? What do you mean?"

"I will heal in time." she replied, turning towards Xanna's general direction.. "The others need the full attention of the medics and I was just getting in the way."

"You will. And I think you just passed your trials Zerras." Spotting Veras she braced herself. "Forgive me. I must speak with someone."

Making eye contact with Liua and Petrus she nodded over at Veras before walking over towards where she was chatting to Djanik. She gave them both a sad smile.

"I saw what you did tonight. You were both instrumental in winning the battle over the station. I saw you as we left on our shuttle... Veras, I... may I have a word in private?"

"My mother, it's weird to even say but she has been a pain to be around sometimes but I have learned a lot about where I come from," she said honestly.

Ru'ni was limping slightly as he returned from the bar with a fruity punchy drink for Viati and sat down beside her as they enjoyed the moments of peace after a long few months.

His fingertips gently trailed over the back of her hand as he leaned in and whispered into her ear, eliciting a slight giggle as the party raged on around them.

Djanik chuckled. "I don't think you're a small time Bankor folk any longer Veras. You're a wolf now."

That would be a conversation for another day.

Then Xanna came, and he glanced up at her.

"I can go, if you need. I was just boring her with an old man's troubles."

It was difficult to say, but she could feel the peace that Oraka's presence had brought her. It seemed this would be a night for hugs. She embraced her friend as the others approached.

"Veras. This is not easy... Your father. He could not let the darkness extinguish hope today. So. He has rejoined the force. To help everyone. To defy Vader."

She looked into her eyes and smiled sadly. "You know he loved you. And he is still with us." She put a hand over her heart. "Here. But even out there, somehow." She looked up at the stars and then back at her younger friend. The little sister.

That was a lot to process, she was never a Jedi but she had heard the philosophy and he was always fond of saying there is no death, there is the Force… was this what he meant? She was numb and then she hugged back and she recalled the last thing she had told him the last time she saw him… it was breakfast she had been staying more at the Sword to keep training but she had gone home to see how he was doing and he seemed so at peace.

She had mentioned someone about the training and that she was excited to make some modifications to the fighter and it wasn’t poignant or meaningful. She was angry for a moment but knew that was something he would not approve of.

She finally said after much silence, “Thank you, it’s what he wanted. He… my dad, he said that we all owe something to each other.”

“I asked him about death once…” she said pulling back wiping a tear away as she continued, “he pointed at the lake and said, that the waves that come to shore they are just one way for the water to be they have a long journey and then reach the shore and the wave is gone but the water remains and returns from whence it came to.”

“He said it better than I could but,” she smiled weakly as Veras collected herself. “Yeah… kriff, this sucks.”

"I think I will be leaving soon, Bankor has nothing left for me."

Sacha got up when she saw Juri, but didn't interrupt her conversation. She simply stepped up next to her, leaning on whatever was convenient as she spoke with her... friend? She presumed she was a friend.

Venator shows up at the party for the festivities. Drink in hand he wanders around and spots Sacha. He approaches her and tips his helmet. "Good do see ya in one piece darl'n."

She turned and smiled, raising her drink to Venator. "I agree on that count," she replied with a warm chuckle. "It was a little touch and go, especially for the other team."

Venator raises his glass and then sips it through a straw underneath his helmet. "Oh? Did dey ged laid low or sumshin?"

She nodded. "They volunteered to keep Vader away from us while we shut down the shields," Sacha said. "Took heavy damage doing it, but they made it. Damn heroes in my book for that."

[Venator Praedae]

"Vader? Who's da? Some sord of general or assassin or sumshin?" Venator asks.

"Who all wend in da deam? Did anyone die?" He follows up.

"He's the Emperor's enforcer and right hand man," she explained. "And about as scary as you'd expect for that."

"Dak, Dove, and Ru'ni Wayne were on my team. A bunch of the Jedi were on the other. I didn't know all of them, but everyone survived."

Along Jurdak's wanderings he came across a mostly familiar group in Sacha, Venator, and Juri. Dak decided this was as good a place as any to post up and just relax with a drink. Besides walking was getting hard as the painkillers were wearing off but self medication was a hell of a thing.

After a moment, Zerras stood again and followed Xanna. She listened to the conversations around her as she did. Trying to track a single voice was difficult, but she had heard it mention a name. She needed to thank those who had flown beside the New Hope. Without them, she wouldn't have been there when it mattered most.
