Sweeping for shipwrecked spacers (EM, D10)

Post by Djanik » Sat Feb 22, 2020 10:45 pm

The Zero Dawn rose with the sun, the day after the mad struggle to free Bankor, even if only for a moment.

The ship slipped the atmosphere slowly, flying casually and with scanners turned to full gain.

Djanik entered a series of sweep patterns into the computer, ready to spend a few hours passing back and forth through the wreckage of the prior day's battle - he had appropriated space suits, medical supplies, and was on a traditional mission of mercy - if anyone was left out here with a broken transponder, or unconscious, this would be their last chance.

So he dedicated these few hours to them, Imperial or Rebel, no spacer would be left stranded. There was an unspoken law - and he abided by it. After the battle, you pulled anyone from the void, friend or foe.

Leaning back in his seat, guiding the ship on a gentle path through the wreckage, he waited to see if any survivors needed rescue. The odds were not great, but perhaps there might be someone left. If Nora hadn't gone up in such a blaze, perhaps he might even think he'd find her... but that would take a miracle and then some.

Still, he set his scanners to bring up if they found any wreckage from her craft - he wanted to at least recover something to send to her family on coruscant - he knew how to get it to the right people.

As he found the mangled remains of her customized TIE, he knew there was no chance she had lived.

Surprisingly at peace, he brought the Dawn to a stop nearby, suiting up and then drifting out of his access hatch.

Drifting out to the wreck, he reached inside, seeing the burned body.

Oh Nora, you always were too proud for your own good.

Gently pulling her from the craft, he wrapped her body in a sealing tarp, clasping down the pressure locks. This would keep the body from... spoiling... before it could be returned to her home.

It was so little.

But it was all he could do.

Gentle bundling it in his arms, he drifted back to the dawn, laying it gently in the hold, and tying it down.

Then he returned to his search.

To attend to the dead, or to save the living.

That was the duty of the victor.
