[Day 1 - LA] Tugging at threads

[Xanna Teevou]

With the mid-afternoon rush out of the way and the evening surge impending there was a little time for personal projects. Xanna walked through the Golden Market in what others might consider little more than gym gear, but to a Pantoran on a hot day was about as much as she could bear to wear.

Fortunately the stalls selling fabrics and assorted material tended to be covered. It stopped things from fading and provided some relief from the system's star. With the recent troubles she had a project in mind, it just needed the right combination of materials.

She tapped a long finger against her lips, momentarily lost in thought.

[Mianerra Tavvos]

Mia liked fashion well-enough. She kept her hands in her coat pockets and browsed the wares. So much so, that without thinking much, she started coming straight at the Pantoran lady.

The blonde wasn't a total fool, though, and she managed to stop herself. "Sorry," she announced, quite genuine. She flashed a grin and looked over to the stall. "Do you sew? Can't figure it out myself."

She hadn't really felt threatened by the approaching human, although her weight distribution had started to shift. It was pleasing when a possible clash turned into something more polite.

"Oh, there is no harm done. Was I in the way perhaps? I sometimes lose myself in thought around this place." She smiled sweetly for a few moments before returning her gaze to the materials.

"I do sew, yes! More of a hobby than a profession but I sometimes do odd jobs here and there. There are plenty of beings in Rygor with something in need of a little mending." She placed a few different materials beside each other, looking for complementarity. "I have a little project in mind for myself for a change."

[Mianerra Tavvos]

"I was lost in thought myself," Mia commented. She then looked over her shoulder, wondering if some Imperials could be following her again. It wasn't a pleasing thought.

"A project, huh? Must be nice to be making something instead of just patching things up." Mia pulled her hands out of her pocket briefly, all gloved up. "Well, I ain't good at fixing things either. Sports, though, that's my thing.

"You headed to a gym around here afterwards, actually? You could call me a new transport, no, transplant."

[Xanna Teevou]

"Yes, it is nice to be able to help so many people, but I do like having a new project that is not just fixing the same pair of socks, or old jacket." She nodded, and then decided neither pattern was quite right.

Her attention shifted to the gloves. "Well, we cannot each be good at everything. But this is interesting, may I ask which sports are your 'thing'?"

She looked up and met the older woman's eyes with her yellow ones. "And you are new here? I am Xanna Teevou, it is nice to meet you. I sometimes go to a gym, but mostly I work out at home." That way no one questions the lightsaber.

[Mianerra Tavvos]

"Hey, now I know who to call if my coat gets torn up. Again." Mia scratched the back of her head, embarrassed about the big thing. It reminded her of her adopted father, a Corellian tough guy who fit the coat much better. "That is, if I know how to reach you. But no pressure either."

Dove could probably fix it up though, huh.

"I used to be pretty good at track, given my legs. They're so long." Mia shook her legs for emphasis. "But yeah, I'm new in these parts. Mianerra, but friends call me Mia."

[Xanna Teevou]

She nodded, causing a few strands of hair to tumble. "Hello Mia, well it is good to have friends in a new place. You can always come to the soup kitchen in the Slums. I am in there most days if you ever need food, or want to help out, or just to talk. And I would be happy to take a look at your jacket." She gave a few directions just in case.

"And you do have impressively long legs yes, much longer than mine." She gestured to her own toned and shapely legs. It looked as though she took good care of herself.

"Alright, good to know. I'll see if I have time to help out." Mia really did wonder what her schedule was like. Being an unemployed, but still busy, individual was weird. Farm life was so much easier in many ways.

"Yeah, I get that a lot. Though that reminds me, gym. I think I need to go. Not much physical labor going on for me on the daily anymore."

[Xanna Teevou]

"No pressure, I also run other events in the community from time to time, but most know me from the soup kitchen." She shrugged lightly. "Well, perhaps we could train together? I have become so used to training alone, but it is different with a friend."

She decided to buy some thread, but not the cloth, and handed over a few credits. "I think what I really need is to find someone who makes the internal pieces. Then I can worry about the rest of the materials for the project."

[Mianerra Tavvos]

"Yeah, if you don't mind showing me a few things. It's been awhile since I've done gym stuff." Mia poked her thin belly. "It's a wonder why I haven't picked up any weight. Even when I try, I can't."

The tall blonde raised a brow. "Internal pieces? What's that?"

[Xanna Teevou]

"Hmm, well strength training will build muscle which will help you pick up weight Mia. Very good, let us do this. I can show you some things that might help." Offering a quick but friendly smile she tucked the thread into a pouch.

"Hmm? Oh, for my project." Xanna leaned closer but realised she would have to stand on tiptoes to get close to the tall human's ear. "With all these Imperial troubles I am planning to make myself some discrete protection. So I need the right protective materials that will not, how would you say, stick out?"

[Mianerra Tavvos]

"That's what I've heard but even when I was working on the fields I didn't put on much weight." Mia shook her arms back and forth. "I'm just kind of lanky."

Mia looked around again over her shoulder. "You shouldn't speak like that. Someone could hear you, you know?" She then raised a brow. "But you say you get into trouble?"

[Xanna Teevou]

Xanna looked around surruptitiously at the closest people. "Let us be completely honest Mia. After this morning I am not the only being thinking this way." Still, she lowered her voice. "Yesterday they roughed up a girl because they could. I could not stand idly by. Then they raided the Slums with Stormtroopers this morning."

She twirled some long strands of hair with a finger. "Trouble is here Mia. So it is better to be prepared. That is also the Bothan Scouts motto I think?"

[Mianerra Tavvos]

"Oh," Mia said, looking around. She had no idea things had gotten so bad, given that she had been detained until very recently. She looked back at Xanna with a smirk. "Good to see it ain't phasing you too much, so it seems."

She then shrugged.

"Bothans? I don't think I ever met one."

[Xanna Teevou]

Xanna shrugged lightly. "There is too much to be done to get upset by every crazy thing that happens in this life." The Force only knew what tomorrow would bring.

"Bothans are furry, with pointed ears, and they are good at avoiding attention. I knew one once. He said their society drove them all to be like spies, always looking out for the next sudden but inevitable betrayal."

[Mianerra Tavvos]

"I heard about the spy thing. Wasn't sure if that was holovid nonsense though."

Mia sighed.

"You been here long? Has it always been so bad?" She wondered if Petrus had been suffering in silence over here on this so-called nowhere planet.

[Xanna Teevou]

"Apparently it is true, I do not think that Bothan was lying to me." It was possible but seemed unlikely from particular Jedi.

Spoting some materials she definitely did want Xanna haded over some more credits. The grey and black would go well with her skin tone. She seemed satisfied with the haul.

"On Bankor? I have been here for three years or so. It was not so bad, but has been getting worse since the Hypermatter facility started production for the navy."

[Mianerra Tavvos]

"Seems like there isn't a place left in the galaxy that isn't being cracked down on," Mia remarked. She scratched the back of her head, wondering if she was saying too much. "Wait, you want to sew this into what exactly?"

[Xanna Teevou]

"Oh, you have been travelling a lot? Is it bad out there?" She supposed it must be, but had not wanted to consider this fact too deeply.

"Hmm, oh, I am making some new clothes. Its is more of a hobby than anything, so it might be a total failure. But I met an artist yesterday and, well..." She looked at the bag of material. "I thought maybe it would be fun to design something for myself. Some clothes that can be stylish but, well, take a hit."

[Mianerra Tavvos]

"Worse in some places than others," Mia admitted, "I used to think this was one of the better places.

"Right, right. Taking a hit is what got me interested. You're telling me you can sew things that are better than, say, my coat? Because I get that clothing can help, but..."

[Xanna Teevou]

Xanna nodded her understanding. "Maybe it is, which says much."

"There are all sorts of incredible materials that can be used for such things Mia. Layering the right ones in the right ways can greatly improve durability, deflection, absorption. It is difficult to do these things and retain the appearance of clothing, rather than say armour, but it can be done."

[Mianerra Tavvos]

"Sounds useful. Is this sort of thing widespread or is the fabric and technique hard to come by?"

[Xanna Teevou]

With one hand she gestured to the stalls and the wider marketplace. "Somewhere like this, you can find most everything you need. Of course, if you can afford it, you simply go to see an armourer and have something off the shelf adjusted."

Thoughtfully she added: "I suppose the alternative is visit one of those starship grave sites to see if you can scavenge the right things?"

"Gotcha. I figured that most of the scavenging would have already been done, but if there's more to be had," Mia mused, trailing off at the end. She was lost in thought for a few moments before shrugging it off with a smile.

"Have everything you came for?"

[Xanna Teevou]

"Yes, I think I have everything that I will be needing for my trial run." She patted the bag.

"People have been scavenging the wrecks for a long time, but there are a lot of them. There are other places one could look as well, or that is the rumour. I have not really left the city more than a handful of times." It was time to change all that though.

"Did you want to find that gym?"
