Dotted with fishing towns this rugged coastline is a frontier region relatively free of Imperial interference.

Day 3 LM - Talk To Me, Space Cube! (Closed)

Post by Fathynyu Kurrek » Sat Feb 01, 2020 2:02 pm

Feeling better than she has all week Floats returns to her little cabin off the coast. After checking in with her house guests and making sure they had food water and entertainment (she'd promised them updates on Warrior's Heart) the Nautolan retreats to her small bedroom with the cube she'd rescued from the Imperial prison.

"Alrighty, you know I know what you are....so don't you go being some evil holocron now, or some boring one 'bout history and planes and things. I could use some real guidance in my life and a cube ain't always a bad place to start."

She places the box on the bed in front of her and slow slips into a trance, closing her eyes and focusing only on her connection to the force. Breathing in....breathing out....breathing in....breathing out. Finally, she threads a small tendril of the force into the holocron......

The cube activates and and image forms of the gatekeeper,a human man with fiery red hair, a scar and a relaxed if intense smile. His clothes seem relaxed if antiquated and a far cry from the robes she would expect of a Jedi but the lightsaber on his hip says otherwise.

“Greetings, I am not sure how this goes but these are the words, no… too pretentious, it’s ya boy Daz Hoshin, this is my holocron created as ordered by Grand Master Zyn… well more asked, but same thing you know?” he said.

“I hope this is built to last.”

"Oh my golly gosh. Your name was 'YaBoy Daz Hoshin'? Yes? It's beautiful and your hair...it's so red! Clearly you are...were a jedi of great....name and hair, at the very least."
Pause
"Oh no, where are my manners? Uh, I'm Floats, Mr YaBoy."

"Just Daz is fine," the image replied with a brief chuckle.

"Daz."

"Hello Floats," Daz responded, "It's good to speak with you."

"Oh wow....ain't that something? Well, a lot's changed in the galaxy. We got good Neimodian food now, for a start. And uh, the sith sorta win? So that's a real bummer, even considering the food situation."

Damn good sushi though

"I was actually hoping to see your wisdom along those lines, were you like a might warrior or brilliant sage or some such? I'm uh, not really either. But I was a padawan and I was a boat mechanic....oh did they have boats in your time?"

Daz blinked and said, “Yes we had boats, made of stone like everything else.”

“The Sith have returned… in my time they were eventually ascendant, well for a time we kept them in check but things got bad. We lost Coruscant, the Grand Master.”

He seemed distant and then came back and said, “There are few of us now, but as Grand Master Zyn says, if only a single light in the darkness remains then it can be used to foster new lights. I suppose my work bore fruit as the Jedi survived.”

He then added, “The only way the Sith win is if we lose the will to fight back, that’s the truth.”

"Ahhh yeah. Boats made of stone, that makes sense!"
Finally, some answers to the big questions

"So it sounds like you guys did it real tough too then?" She sits in silence for several long moments
"But you-we, bounced back eventually, new lights right? Like spreading embers, only without the arson."

“Yes, it’s a metaphor,” he said in response.

He was unsure if he should correct the joke or leave it be. He continued, “I am the gatekeeper, I can be your guide and share what little wisdom I have for you, young Jedi.”

"Uh, their whizz powers are the worst." Okay Floats, think

"Nam, uh, Nam was my master. He always taught me that being a Jedi meant letting the light side work through you to do good. We was real active together, always going out and trying to help refugees. His opinion of Jedi who didn't do good was low. Nam also taught me that a Jedi, they choose to have limits. You know, like a code and rules. And these actually make you stronger. Whereas Sith they're all "I don't need limits, I'm gonna be right rude over these here forms and then stab Floats in the shoulder."

“Nam is wise, and a Jedi is a vessel of the Force as we all are, but we just are more active about it and understand that we don’t place limits on ourselves but restrain ourselves from excess and know that true power is knowing when to let go,” he said.

“It’s not that we limit ourselves, it is knowing that we have a responsibility to others, even if they do not realize it. It is knowing that even a stranger is someone to be valued for their mere existence and not just what you can get from them. The galaxy is bigger than our petty wants and needs.”

Nodding along, this all sounds very appropriately Jedi

Blushing, which on a red Nautolan is quite a sight
"I can't rightly say it was pure heroism. I'd just sorta lost my shop and my livelihood through no fault of my own. Then the same folk went and gunned down a bunch of women and children. So I was already miffed as heck. But it was only when some good people let me know they'd be fighting back that I thought I'd go. I mean, what did I have to lose?"

“Being selfless is not effortless, many actions are motivated or begin as selfish inclinations but if you fake being good long enough you realize you are just doing good because it is right. It’s a journey and like every journey things will happen that you do not expect, detours and even stops. Yet we have to move forward and try to do better with each step, same with being selfless,” he said.

"Well the real heroes were the folks who organised it. I was just the right heavily armed boat mechanic at the right place at the right time."
Lightbulb

"Say, you ever do something like that? Not being an armed boat mechanic I mean. But being heroic and all but starting from somewhere else? I could use the context and you look like you were mighty heroic."

"Nawww, that's a fine answer. That was a Sith doing good for bad reasons, but they redeemed themselves. If that can happen, than anyone can end up in the light if they follow it far enough. Although I don't wanna be one of those jedi who is all "take my hand and redeem yourself" and then you get stabbed and it's all "noooooo".
