The lights were still on, visible from the street below, as Verse tinkered away some more at her lightsaber...

...to little avail as she screwed it up.

[Qareme Torth]

Qareme struggled to sleep. Something was still eating away at her, and she decided that a walk and some fresh air (or as fresh as the slums could have) would be needed. It certainly felt nice to walk, compared to sitting and contemplating what she had seen. Allowing her feet to guide her mindlessly. It seemed the Force had an idea though, as she found herself stopped in front of a building with the lights still on.

This is where Verse is. How curious that I would end up here. Must be a sign.

Verse's place was not close to Qareme's after all, so it had to be a sign. Qareme approached and knocked on the door twice, before taking a step back and waiting.

[Verse Aura]

Disappointed with herself, she moved over to the door and opened it a little bit... then completely when she noticed it was Qareme.

"Oh, I wasn't expecting you to show up this late, uhh, come in? Yes! Come in."

At which point Qareme would notice the half disassembled lightsaber nearby.

[Qareme Torth]

"I was not expecting to be here, but the Force works in mysterious ways" Qareme lowered her head in a greeting, then accepted the invite in with a curious look.

"Cleaning, modification or repairs?" she asked after the door was closed, looking over the place for somewhere to sit.

[Verse Aura]

"Well, I *was* trying to improve the crystal, but I messed up," she said, not hiding her disappointment with the fact. "Guess I shouldn't have gotten overly ambitious today and just wait a day after working on the grip earlier."

[Qareme Torth]

"Hmm, I see. If you can see where you have made your mistake, you can learn from it. There is wisdom in that after all."

Qareme placed her staff down, and frowned.

"It is that time now isn't it? I shall have to begin preparing also, my skills have proven lacking."

[Verse Aura]

"I guess that's true, though I think I may have cracked it a little. Just a little, not like it won't work anymore. But I'll have to be more careful in the future. And I guess I lost some of parts too. Scrap is expensive, you know."

She looked at the staff that got placed down.

"Well, if you want, you can use my tools?"

[Qareme Torth]

"I may? I have very little resource to offer in return, it has not been something I've considered before now" Qareme gazed at the staff-saber

[Verse Aura]

"There's no need to offer anything in return, so long as you got your own parts at least. I've got only got enough left of those to make one or two more attempts myself."

[Qareme Torth]

"I do" there was a nod "it seems the Force has been guiding me towards this without making me aware. Thank you, Verse."

Qareme spent a few careful moments removing the crystal from the staff, which would give Verse a good opportunity to see how well disguised the pike hilt was within the walking stick.

Preparing her own resources, she fell into silence entirely, focused on the improvement of the crystal. For the first time today, she truly felt at ease. The crystal shone in the light, making the changes easier to do.

"There. I believe that will add more effectiveness to the strike."

She looked at Verse. Perhaps her here is why I felt calmer? Rather than alone facing the darkness?

"Aww man, I'm so jealous. I wanted to do that too!"

It was half true, but she was mostly just joking around.

"I feel like we're going to need it soon enough."

[Qareme Torth]

"Perhaps this will allow me to stand closer to your equal" Qareme said with a small chuckle, before she carefully places the crystal back into the saber, made the small adjustments to cover up the saber and then looking at Verse adding "may I take a moment to light the saber up, to check the modification has correctly applied?"

[Verse Aura]

"It's not like we're that different," she said, "there's so much I have to learn again too."

She looked at her, and took a step back. "Go ahead."

[Qareme Torth]

With a nod, Verse stood up, picking her saber up and moving a short distance away from Verse to avoid any accidents before powering up her pike. The yellow blade had a more solid glow to it, and when she moved it around a little where was a nod of approval.

"It has worked. A small but effective change."

She powered down the saber, and gave Verse a nod of thanks before she moved to sit down.

"Thank you."

[Verse Aura]

"You know, I've been wondering about the color of your saber. Why yellow?"

[Qareme Torth]

"I believe that is my masters doing. Master Claflem spoke often about the Jedi Temple guards. She shared many stories about them, the deeds they have done. It was the inspiration for my saber" Qareme looked at her saber "she said she believed me to be a protector before she chose me to be her padawan. She was wise, and so knowledgeable. She gave me the belief that I could protect others."

A small sigh.

"However I have become...less convinced with my ability."

[Verse Aura]

"We all have," she said. "I was definitely better at this during the war. I mean, I was also younger, but I don't think eighteen years is enough time for a Mirialan to have started to slow down from old age."

[Qareme Torth]

"I should hope not, nor that my abilities would begin to be affected by a premature old age" Qareme frowned "however it was a different concern, as I had almost escaped the prison last night before my ability with a saber let me down."

[Verse Aura]

"You did? Did you fight *her*?"

[Qareme Torth]

Qareme nodded.

"Technically twice. The first time the Force allowed me to overwhelm her and take her saber from her. The second time she handily defeated me even without the saber. It was not my intention to escape, merely to try and help some of the unfortunate prisoners near me, however the number of guards that had materialized left me no option but to attempt escape, and in my folly not only did I not escape, but the Inquisitor tortured the other prisoners more for it."

[Verse Aura]

"This morning, she told me that you'd run out of limbs and she was thinking of starting on your face next. She is a very disturbing person, and I fear we haven't seen the last of her."

There was a brief pause.

"Even if the last I saw of her was when she fell off our TIE-Fighter and into a ravine."

[Qareme Torth]

"She is running entirely on emotion, as we know Sith do, however I believe she is more unstable than the other Inquisitor we have heard about."

There was a pause, before she added "I believe there is more to her than what we have seen though. When I was first placed into the prison cell, and her initial attempts to manipulate me failed, I had an opportunity to understand her more. She actually sat and meditated with me."

[Verse Aura]

"Huh," she said... thinking about that.

"Oh right, we learned her name!" She lit up. "I mean, I think. I think she was Oraka's student maybe?"

[Qareme Torth]

"She was extremely keen on not acknowledging her name, how did you discover it?" Qareme asked, surprised. "She insisted on only being called Sister 13."

[Verse Aura]

"Well, she came at us with a TIE-Fighter when we were out starting a distraction so the others could get you and the rest of the prisoners out. She shot up our speeder, then I ran into a factory, she shot up the factory, and then decided to leave the fighter behind and came after me personally. She almost had me cornered, but then Oraka showed up to fight here and give me and Sinnya time to escape. I think he called her Neela, but I didn't get to see what happened after that. I thought he might've stopped her."

She blinked.

"Well, until she forcejumped on us mid-air after we stole her TIE-fighter."
