Once again, with feeling, and equipment (LE D4)

Djanik once again came to the wound, this time at the controls of his own ship.

Tracing the route he had taken previously, he brought the nimble patrol craft speeding through the canyon, entering low and far from ruins of Camp-14 or the Scrap King.

This was private business, and he intended to keep it that way, for now. Invitation only. He had sent a message to Elaranu, telling her of his trip, but it would be up to her if she wanted to come.

In the meantime, he was better prepared, and needed to get answers sooner than later.

Things were starting to move, and he needed to stay apace with developments.

Setting down the patrol boat, the landing spikes protruding from the sides of cargo bay to keep it balanced, he chose to climb out, rather than just ride the cockpit to ground level.

Making his way through the small living space, he finished the mug of kaff he had been drinking earlier, gathered his pack of supplies, and then stepped out onto the canyon floor.

The cave complex awaits.

Djanik had given the scans one last look, hoping no large animals, massive droid armies, or three darth vaders were waiting inside...

Making his way into the cave entrance, he flipped down his scanning goggles, flicking on the infared and night vision channels so he could see in the dark.

He would continue on, in silence, until he found either a split in the road, or something unusual.

The descent into the cave is off to a rocky start as he loses his grip on his equipment and tumbles down and somehow avoids any real harm and lands in a small pool of water. But as he rises he sees a large bulkhead rusted and closed.

Rising and brushing himself off, he thanked the stars that they made these packs water resistant. Reaching inside, he pulled out a glow stick, setting it on very low, shining it at the bulkhead and around, giving his goggles more to work with.

He tried to get a better look at what he was seeing, stepping back carefully, trying to make sense of it - was it part of something larger, partially submerged, or was it built into the rock itself.

It would be preferable not to cave the entire cavern in on his head.

Looks like it is fastened to the stone itself, probably built over a natural cavern at some point.

"Riiight then."

Making his way over to the wall, he began checking for access points, consoles, or signs of power.

It would be a short trip if he couldn't get through the bulkhead - but he'd not give up just yet.

There was an old busted panel but it didn't seem to have power.

Flipping the scanner mode to check for heat, he began checking for any sign of power flowing through the console, if there wasn't, it'd be time to start trying to hot wire the door.

It was an escalation approach, better to start small and work his way up.

Pulling out a spool of wire, he got to work, trying to slice in the power supply from the glow stick to run the console, and see what he could find out.

It is enough to get it to spark to life and now it seems to want a passcode.

Djanik gritted his teeth, trying to tap in one of his old codes, watching for any unwanted responses from the console, ready to cut power if need be.

It didn't like his code, that was for certain...

(Advantage possible to use to disable any defenses or get further information about what the computer wants/expects to draw inferences about the content of the caves?)

The system gives him minor access to basic security which seems to be offline and the last access entry which seems to be about forty seven years ago. There was an incident inside, and then an alert but the record and logs have degraded.

With the panel powered he could possibly shoot it to open the door but the door will probably stay open.

[Djanik]

That... might be bad, depending on what the incident was.

Djanik sat in quiet, pondering the problem.

He couldn't just... leave it forever.

And he couldn't repair the panel or the logs.

There was really only one way to know.

He hoped this wasn't a horrid idea. Copying over every scrap of data he could to his own datapad, in the hope that it might be possible to re-assemble later, he then cut the power.

Then he pulled out a fusion cutter, and got to work, slowly cutting about a foot wide hole in the door panel, avoiding the mechanism, so he could open it later if need be.

He cuts a way in, and feels a rush of air as inside must have been vacuum sealed.

[Djanik]

As soon as he felt the air, he held his breath, pulling out a rebreather and fastening it over his nose and mouth. If the air was bad, he wasn't going to just walk into it blindly.

Peering through the hole with his scanner goggles, he wondered just what was on the other side...

He also intended to find out.

Pulling the Arakyd Industries Recon Remote he had purchased from the bag, he activated it, directing it to pass through the hole he had cut, just a few inches of clearance on each side, and then sent it humming into the darkness, watching the control unit to see what the 360degree scanners were picking up as it began an automated sweep to try and map the area on the far side.

It was tiny, fast, and efficient. He hoped that would keep it safe and enable him to get some clues about what was on the far side of the door before he cut a man sized hole.

It was a long tunnel that turned into cut stone and then metal work about fifty meters in and another bulkhead.

[Djanik]

No signs of anything dangerous? Any power readings in the second bulkhead?

With a sigh, he pulled out the torch, trying to widen the hole just enough that he could get through, but mutated death rancors wouldn't fit.

It seemed it was time to find out what hides behind door number two...

Grabbing his bag, breathing steadily through the mask, he made his way carefully to the next bulkhead.

Just silence besides his breathing and footsteps. This one seemed to have power and had a panel next to it that powered on once he was near.

[Djanik]

Djanik stepped up to the panel, trying to see if it had more information about the facility, status, or anything else.

He was working in the dark, metaphorically, and physically, and anything to change the former would be ideal.

[Dapper Dog]

It was another security panel it had a touch panel for input.

A computerized voice spoke in Basic, "Welcome to the Bankor Republic Military Black Site Auresh-51, please input security code or use security pass."

[Djanik]

Djanik stared, dumbfounded, at the computer.

Black site? What?

After a long moment, he pressed the panel and gave his own security code from the past, though he had a sneaking suspicion that it might not be enough for access.

"Republic Navy Captain Dak Kaveen, security code 1... 3... Omega... Pilot... 9... 3... Kilo."

Maybe they would let him in to the lobby?

[Dapper Dog]

The computer responded, "Welcome, Captain, you have Guest access. Please report to Security immediately and then to Medical for mandatory inoculation. Sites labeled as Black are [Redacted]."

The bulkhead slides open with a metallic keening sound.

[Djanik]

Mandatory Inoculation? What on earth had they been doing down here. They'd been fighting droids, right?

Stepping through the door warily, he cast his gaze around, looking for a directory, signs, doors, a secretary station where he could upgrade his access...

Bodies, mega rancors...

His imagination was really getting ahead of him now.
