[D3 EN] Strange Bedfellows

[Dove Gray]

Since Dak was doing the job of talking, Dove was devouring her food... thankfully with enough manners that it didn't seem like she was devouring her food like a hungry wolf. One of the drawbacks of her genetic perks was a higher metabolism.

"A batang? Don't think I've heard that in action before, but it sounds interesting. I play both the guitar and the piano, enough to perform and earn some cash when other jobs are dry. Bounty huntin' isn't a stable profession to make like go 'round most of the time." She paused to reach for her glass again. "Isn't the Nerf Hutt-territory?"

If he took offense to her devouring he made no sign of it, some would say an enhanced metabolism was a gift in and of itself. "Ahh yes I heard you play earlier at the art festival, it was really great. I've never tried the piano but from what I've heard it's a lovely instrument, I'd love to hear you play that sometime. I'd offer to sing to accompany but I've got no talent for it." He said with a laugh.

He nodded to her question about the Nerf "Yeah it is but it's not too bad a place and like I said they have some of the best live music in the city."

"Heh, thanks. Glad you enjoyed it, and it did get me a little bit of cash too." She took another sip of wine. "I wouldn't mind a jamming session, or help you practice sometime. Would be a nice way to just chill at the end of the day, no?"

"And I promise I'll go check out the Nerf sometime during one of the live music nights."

He smiled "Yeah I'd love that, you could teach me to play piano, I think you'd do the lounge singer routine better than I would." He said with a light laugh. "But yeah relaxing playing music all that good stuff could be fun."

"So how long have you been on Bankor?" He knew she didnt just arrive but he wasnt sure exactly how long she'd been planet side.

"Hey, don't say never. I'm sure you could prowl very seductively on the piano too, like a kitten," she laughed softly.

Chewing down some more food, she thought about the answer. "On and off a couple of years. Rather, I've been here many times, but haven't really stayed long each time. Always running off doing something else after a little while. Set up Petrus here once we found a safe place for him to stay, and then back out into the galaxy at large."

Then that ship got messed up.

"This feels like the longest I've been on the planet, or any planet, in a good while."

He chuckled slightly as well shaking his head "You're lucky I like you Gray, I wouldnt let most people get away with calling me Kitten." He teased.

"So been on the move a lot huh? Doing anything interesting? I'd probably travel more if I had access to a ship. I had to burn all my assets when I left Courscant and call in favors just to get off world and make it here. Haven't been in a position to leave since. Might be time to change that though. Once things are more settled." He said thoughtfully.

She grinned. "Nicknames are a good thing. Calling you 'cat' seems a bit too... offensive?"

Dove continued to eat as Dak spoke, and when there was a lull she continued the conversation. "We had a ship, but well... it's a heap of junk now. My partner and I are hoping to fix it up soon. Don't feel like being stuck here on Bankor in case things go completely overboard and it becomes a lost cause." Like a capitol ship deciding to start bombarding the surface.

"Things come, and things go. At the moment, a ship isn't that nescessary since this seems to be the place to be."

He smiled "and kitten isnt?" He said with a laugh "I suppose if you don't call me that in front of others itll be fine. I do have somewhat of a reputation to protect but I guess as long as it's just you I'm OK with it." He looked thoughtful "perhaps I'll need to think of a nickname for you."

He took some time to eat off his quickly disappearing plate while Dove spoke "Yeah right now everything seems to be going down here, like you said kind of galactic stage. And yeah itd be nice to know I had a way off planet if I absolutely needed one. I wasnt too worried about it until recently."

"I'm sure you'll think of something. You probably had some for me back in the day, no?" Though she figured those weren't as endearing as 'kitten' could be.

Having cleared her plate, she placed the cutlery to the side on the plate. "I'll keep my ears to the ground about it, and let you know if I find out about any friendly ships if you need one out of here," she offered easily, figuring he'd probably do the same for her.

"So what's this reputation you need to protect, mm? The reputation of a big, tough warrior guy?"

"Heh....yeahh I mean I certainly didnt always refer to you by name." They had certainly not been what most people call endearing and were likely of the variety he wouldnt enjoy repeating given their new dynamic "Let's just say the past is the past and leave it there." He said with a slightly nervous chuckle as he finished his wine as well. He refilled his glass and pointed the bottle towards Dove asking the question without words.

As she talked about keeping an ear out he finished his own plate settling back with a satisfied stomach "Sure and maybe if things get too hair I can just stow away on yours if you get one."

When she finished asking about his reputation he couldnt help but laugh "Hahaha, I dont know about tough guy or warrior. I dont really talk like that much when I'm not with.....some people." Ancestors he was glad his people couldnt blush. Though if Dove's eyes were sharp she might catch the tip of a tail nervously flicking behind his chair. "But I mean I'd say roughly handsome bounty hunter and nature guide. 'Kitten' doesnt really conjure images of competency in either thing." He finished with a chuckle.

"I can only imagine the nicknames back then," she remarked with a good-hearted laugh. "Not that I'm offended over what they were, as I wasn't calling you cute or nice names then either."

She gave a nod in confirmation for a refill.

"Hmmm, I suppose you have a point there. I didn't know you listed handsome on your job description, though, so you've been lucky to keep your good looks so far. Is there really a demand for nature guides out here? Bounty Hunter I can understand, since that seems to be a need almost every where in the galaxy."

He chuckled a bit "no I cant say I usually advertise that but I hope it catches on through word of mouth." He said refilling her glass "youd be surprised not necessarily near here but people like to see the desert, and sometimes the ice shelf. The Sky Shroud Sea is probably the most common place people want to go but it's one of the most dangerous."

"I've mostly stuck the more civilized areas on Bankor... never saw the appeal in trekking in the desolate wilderness. What's so popular about the Sky Shroud Sea?" She nodded in thanks for the refill and took a sip of the fresh wine.

Dak thought for a moment "well it's beautiful, mysterious, but also deadly. It's kind of like a certain someone I know." He said with a sly grin.

"But for some it's just about seeing things they cant see other places. Some people just like the challenge." He shrugged sipping his wine "just depends on the person."

She grinned as her foot brushed up against his leg underneath the table. "I didn't know entire geographical locations made you think about me. I suppose I should be flattered." Dove leaned back slightly more in her seat, keeping the glass in her hand.

"There's some appeal in scaling a cliff for the challenge, I suppose, but freezing off private parts? I think I'll pass. Sure, I prefer my weather a little cooler than it usually is here in Rygor, but I've been to Arkania - the cold is not pleasant at all."

He shivered slightly as the foot caressed his leg "When you say it like that you make me sound like a love struck cub." He said with a chuckle.

He sipped his wine while she complained about sub zero temperatures and nodded in agreement "yeah the fur helps a bit but I do prefer the heat to the cold but hey if i can charge 1000 credits plus expenses to some thrill seeker tourists I wont turn it down."

"Hmm... isn't the heat troublesome when you have fur? You don't sweat like us hairless folks... that stint in the desert must've been pretty harsh for you."

She noticed the shiver and it made her smile widen a tad more.

"Mhm its true that we dont sweat but as long as you're properly geared it's not too terrible. I usually just make sure I have plenty of water with me which can kind of replace sweating."

He paused and then gave a sort of self conscious grin "well technically we do sweat but only on a very specific part of out body." He paused "The bottom of our feet sweat when we get too hot."

She chuckled. "I'm glad I don't have to worry about stuff like that. Well, I do have to worry about hydration like any other person, but not... you know, sweating down my shoes and boots."

Dove liked her shoe-collection too much to subject them to too much foot-sweat.

"Those claws would be real handy to have sometimes though."

Dak extended out a claw and looked at it "they can be a bit of fun if you're careful with them." He said giving Dove a sly grin and running the claw down her arm just enough to feel a bit of sharpness and then retreated to his side of the table "but in all seriousness they can be very useful for climbing, or opening cans, ect."

Dove gasped a little as she felt the sharpness of the claw against her skin. "Oh, I wasn't even thinking in terms of utility... I was thinking how convenient it would be to always have something sharp on hand when walking into dangerous places, without obviously carrying weapons. Or hiding weapons."

She gave her own nails a scrutinizing look. "Mine are just harder than normal humans, but not like the talons of Arkanians... and yeah, nothing like your claws."

He nodded thoughtfully "yeah cant say I use em for that too often or ever really now that I think about it." He has a look of concentration on his face for a moment. He reached back out and looked at her nails "I like them, they feel nice but yeah they certainly lack the utility of claws and arent much for weapons. But you're deadly enough with out them I'd wager."

"Eh, maybe." She wasn't going to reveal all her tricks.

"Do you want dessert, or more to drink? Since we're already here?" Dove asked, finishing off her second glass of wine.

"Dont you play coy with me now Dove" he smiled and a small laugh accompanied his words "You're one of the deadliest people I've met, trying to say anything else is either you being disingenuous or unnecessarily humble." He said finishing his own glass of wine "and no offense Dove but you've never struck me as the overly humble type, I could be wrong though in the end I dont know a ton about the real you or rather the you that is my friend rather than my enemy." His hand that had been looking at her nails held her hand and rubbed his thumb over her fingers looking at them for a moment and then back up to her "So far I am very much enjoying getting to know you."

As for her other question he shrugged "I'm not usually one for desert but wouldnt mind if you wanted some. I'm actually a bit full."

She covered her mouth with her fingers as she laughed. "You know, I'd actually say I'm surprisingly humble. Maybe not in a... brown-robes sort of way, but I've never had a need for being praised for my work or the like. Respect for the job I, and others like me do? Always. As you said yourself, we both know that's how wars are fought and won - which the clankers and bucketheads don't understand."

The hand that was being caressed by Jurdak moved to interlock her fingers with his. "But I guess I'm also like a lot of gals is that I don't mind hearing how fabulous I am from time to time. Even if I don't need it plastered all over the Holonet. Leave it to the others to be the heroes and the faces to inspire others."

"I'll order over some fruit for a light dessert then."
